I just got back from a week's vacation in another part of the country from where I live. As always, I enjoyed hearing the various radio offerings as we drove around each day. Now, of course, I already knew that most of the stations around the country are controlled by the same big corporations, but I had no idea the extent of it.
One example that had me shaking my head in disbelief was a station's "self promo", which featured the same word-for-word promo, spoken by the same voices, as one of my local stations. And this station too claimed to be the "only" station that fit the description and had the same special features.
R.I.P. Originality on radio...

Clear Channel's Augie Tulba and his morning show is on KDNN 98.5 here in Honolulu. He can also be heard mornings on KHWI 92.7 in Hilo. Not sure if that is voicetracked ???

I've heard Clear Channel stations use the same promo for their national contests in other markets.

I knew that certain shows were broadcast on more than one station, and I suspected that nationwide contests were all advertised the same way. I just never knew that multiple stations were using the same "we're the only station..." type promos, spoken word-for-word by the same announcers. I found that very jarring to hear.

They've been doing that for several years, and the practice is known as voice-tracking. Furthermore a large percentage of what you hear on the radio is digitally recorded, thanks to various technical advances, especially on weekends.
Such things as the fact that KIIS-FM's current afternoon personality (Sean Valentine) was at one time #1 in MORNING DRIVE in a city 2,000 miles from LA (Cincinnati) should tell you all you need to know.
