As much as I've been looking forward to this and really want to buy it... Don't know if I can get past the horrid overuse of auto tune. And also disappointed that "Amarillo by Morning" wasn't included. Must have been unsalvagable.

I started watching the Geo Strait concert on CMT a couple of weeks ago and had to turn it off because of the ridiculous amount of auto-tune used on the vocals. I don't mind a little auto-tune to even things out on live performances, but George's voice was auto-tuned constantly, it seemed, and they didn't even try to make it unnoticeable. It's too bad the album seems this way, too.

Ditto with the above. I really dont understand why so much was used and its even on Martina And Vince's voice from what I could tell from the previews. I love Strait but I'm not even remotely interested in buying this.

I'm expecting this CD to be the 26th #1 of George Strait's career.

I'm expecting this CD to be the 26th #1 of George Strait's career. I doubt it. HITS has it projected to open with around 50k in sales, which is pretty good for a live album, but Tim's album is going to do 70k+. And then next week we have Kenny, and then Blake and Lady A on the 30th, followed by Aldean...there won't be any 'soft' weeks from here on out through the end of the year.

Disappointed to hear about the autotune problems. Was really looking forward to this.

I was able to finally grab my copy of this earlier tonight and have listened to it a couple times already. First, let's address the auto-tune. I have only seen bits and pieces so far of the concert that CMT streamed (I don't have cable and rarely watch TV) so it's possible that auto-tune was used more on the television special, but I just don't hear it on the cd folks. I'm not sure what the above posts are referencing about its overuse and songs being "unsalvageable." On first listen in my truck I thought there might have been some use of auto-tune on "That's What Breaking Hearts Do," but on second listen with headphones I can't hear it. Suffice to say, I think the producers of the CMT special might have possibly overused auto-tune to provide a certain sound for the television audience, but on the cd it isn't there. Moving on...
Second, let me get out my long time fan opinion. I knew a live cd was going to get released, however I was hoping it would more or less cover live songs encompassing the two year tour with songs from each different city. I was wanting only George on a lot of these songs and some of the duets on the live version ("Lovebug" with Vince Gill and "Here For A Good Time" with Sheryl Crow) just don't quite do these songs justice, and frankly Sheryl doesn't sound all that great on this live track unfortunately. On that note, the acoustics of the AT&T Stadium are not optimal for concerts nor for that of a live cd recording. Chuck Ainlay (George's longtime audio engineer) did a good job, however, with what he had to work with I'm sure.
With that said...there are some highlights on this release: "Cowboys Like Us" with Eric Church "Marina Del Rey" "Arkansas Dave" with Bubba Strait "Jackson" with Martina McBride "A Showman's Life" with Faith Hill "I'll Always Remember You" "Troubadour" "The Cowboy Rides Away"
I'm like a giddy little kid when it comes to going to the store to purchase my new George Strait cd's, and this was no exception. I'm still happy to add this to that list, even though I had my own preference of what I wanted for a live cd from George's "The Cowboy Rides Away" tour. I'm not sure what to expect from George going into 2015 and beyond, but I've long been waiting for a swing type album soon and can't wait for it! I'm thinking some kind of duets album will be in the works along with some regular traditional country studio albums.

It's 1 hour and 24 mins of a special with it online.

The songs weren't ever 'unsalvageable' but you can definitely hear the computerized processing through the project. The problem with the autotune for me is the fact that his guests didn't need it and THAT's where you hear it most, like Sheryl Crow and Martina McBride. Glad to see it sold well though.

So this counts as album number one of that new 5 album deal he signed?

So this counts as album number one of that new 5 album deal he signed? Not likely. They usually add things like "Live" and "greatest hits" options to such contracts. This was actually just smart by MCA and George's team to capitalize on the massive promo and good will for his tour.

I'm not sure Strait needed it either though. To me the entire idea of a live record is a little roughness in quality.I'd rather hear a pitchy spot here and there then this overly processed computerized mess. I turned off the CMT special thirty minutes in because of this same reason and was hoping the disc wouldn't be so heavy handed. Sampling some of the itunes clips , I couldn't even recognize some of the artists. While my dad has never had any high dollar Auto-tune software for his studio , he does have a similar knock off harmonizer software with pitch correction. Apparently if one voice is corrected , they ALL have to be corrected , so maybe that's the explanation. Its a pity in any case , cause I was looking forward to this album.

That's why I am not a fan of live CDs. I only have one in my collection and that is Double Live by Garth Brooks (I got that one courtesy of his second Limited Series box set from 2005). I know that one culled different performances from different concerts. With the Brooks CD, you are NOT getting a whole concert per se, only bits and pieces of quite a few others. You certainly are not getting a cohesive performance there.

Some of my favorites include: Dwight Yoakam's Dwight LiveDon Williams' An Evening With Don Williams and Live Greatest Hits, Vol. 2Top of The World Tour Live by the Dixie Chicks Alison Krauss & Union Stations LiveKenny's Live: Live Those Songs AgainRandy's Live: It Was Just A Matter of TimeLive At Texas Stadium by George, Jimmy, and Alan Lyle Lovett's Live In TexasAlabama's Alabama LiveI do have Garth's Double Live but it rates down at the bottom of my list due to its highly over-produced and edited selections. Anyways, to each their own but I quite enjoy live cd's. I still am not hearing the overuse of auto-tune on George's latest live cd (although I do hear it on the CMT special), so I guess my ears are missing something.
