Not that it wasn't already official, but in the music world Jennifer Hudson is just a tribute singer. She's always had strong first week sales until now which is mostly due to her not having a hit single. RCA promoted 3 singles before the album was released and none took off. Did she really have big hits before? Maybe I'm just not her audience, but the only song I can even vaguely remember of hers is "Spotlight," and I don't even think that song was particularly successful.

They weren't hugely successful, but none of the 3 singles from this album even charted on the R&B chart.

CtoC performed much better in the USA than UK, where it landed at No. 10 with less than 11,000. Mathematically, this really struck me. 11K is good enough for 10th in the UK, and 24K is good enough for 10th here. But UK has about 1/5 the population of the US. 11K * 5 = 55K, and only the top 4 albums reached that here. Anyhow, are sales in general stronger in the UK? Why would that be?

Checking some figures- UK album sales in 2009 were 128.9 million- in the years thereafter, they were 119.9 million, 113.2 million, 100.5 million and 94 million.
In the USA, since 2009, the SoundScan figures have gone like this: 373.9 million, 326.2 million, 330.6 million, 316 million and 289.4 million.
So, from 2009-2013, UK album sales dipped around 27%. In the same period, U.S. album sales dropped around 22.6%. However, per capita, it does look like UK album sales are stronger.

UK sales were through the roof later than in the US, 2004 was the best year there iirc
Interesting that the sales were actually up in the US only couple of years ago.

www.billboard.com/biz/articles/news/chart-alert/6274051/billboard-200-chart-moves-jackie-evancho-arrives-with Billboard 200 Chart Moves: Jackie Evancho Arrives With 'Awakening'By Keith Caulfield | October 03, 2014 10:09 PM EDT Of course, there was lots of chart action elsewhere on the chart. Let's take a closer look: – Jackie Evancho, Awakening - No. 17 – 14-year-old vocalist Jackie Evancho debuts at No. 17 with Awakening, and also earns her fifth No. 1 on Classical Crossover Albums with the new release. Thus, she manages the notable feat of having No. 1s as both a tween and a teenager. Evancho notched her first of five No. 1 albums when she was only 10-years old, back when O Holy Night opened at No. 1 on the Dec. 4, 2010 Classical Crossover chart. (Evancho also claimed a pair of No. 1s when she was 11, in 2011, and another when she was 12, in 2012.) Other artists with No. 1s both as a tween and teen (and sometimes beyond) include Hanson’s Zac Hanson, who claimed various chart toppers at 11, 12, 13, 18 and 21. Also on that list, Michael Jackson, as part of Jackson 5, The Jacksons and a solo artist. Jackson tallied his first No. 1, with his brothers in Jackson 5, on Jan. 10, 1970. That week, “I Want You Back” hit No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, when Jackson was 11 years old. Jackson would later tally many leaders as a teenager (and beyond), both with and without his siblings. – John Mellencamp, Plain Spoken - No. 18 – John Mellencamp celebrates 35 years on the Billboard 200, as Plain Spoken takes a bow at No. 18. It's his 18th top 40 album, and seventh top 40 effort in a row. Mellencamp debuted on the list (as John Cougar) on Aug. 18, 1979. — Ariana Grande, Yours Truly - No. 77 – Grande’s debut album, Yours Truly, rebounds 173-77 (up 138 percent) thanks to $1.99 pricing in the Google Play store. Google also gave away free downloads of her second album, this year’s My Everything, but those freebies do not count towards the chart. — Soundtrack, Destiny – No. 101 — The video game soundtrack (which credits Paul McCartney as a collaborator) makes a notable debut, selling 3,000 copies and bowing at No. 4 on the Soundtracks chart. — George Harrison, The Apple Years: 1968-75 - No. 167 – As one Beatle helps bring a video game soundtrack to life at No. 101, another Beatle band mate arrives at No. 167. Harrison's The Apple Years box set is his 19th charting album. — Soundtrack, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty — No. 180 — The premium cable premiere of the film sends its soundtrack back onto the list with a 65 percent sales gain. The album has sold 74,000 to date.
