You know, I really do like this song. The lyrics are bland and don't really go anywhere, but I absolutely love the production on it. The chorus is quite catchy as well, stays stuck in your head. I still hear a little bit of "Dance Hall Days" in the production. The sales for this one have been pretty lackluster though, hopefully they can pick up a bit.

Is this one just staying still? :/ really liking it just a catchy feel good song, a breezy spring hit! This one's doing fine. It's up to #26 on Billboard and #27 on MB after 16 weeks. If you compare that to his previous two singles ("Hey Girl", "We Are Tonight" - both hit #1); "Hey Girl" had 14 million in audience after 16 weeks and sat at #20 while "We Are Tonight" was just at 6.2 million in audience and #29 after 16 weeks. "Don't It" is right in the middle at 9 million and #26 after 16 weeks. Billy's a B-lister and his climbs have never been fast, other than maybe "Pretty Good At Drinkin' Beer". +30 week climbs is his bread and butter and "Don't It" is right at where I thought it would be at 16 weeks. Plus, like you said, it's a catchy spring hit. Last time I checked it was February 10th and 20 degrees outside, at least where I am. Still plenty of time left. ;) I still don't care for this song personally but I can totally see where some find this a fun sing along.

This is catchy and I like the melody a lot, and it's definitely a better song than his last lead single, but it's just kinda "there" for me overall. Pretty typical inoffensive radio fluff.

The station I listen to plays this track at least twice an hour. Honestly I understand some markets support certain artists but why do they tend to overplay songs in some markets that get barely any AirPlay in others. I mean to me this is heard just as often if not more than taledega and something in the water and I see you so they are playing it like a top 10 hit. Not that I'm complaining about it I like the song and feel it will go top 10 or higher but, why play it like that before it even gets to that point.

Radio stations aren't in the market to all play the exact same setlists. Some stations will play certain artists more than others, that's what differentiates these stations.

I understand that it just seems like an odd choice for a song that hasn't really generated a ton of biz but what do I know.

I haven't been paying much attention to the charts lately but is it just me or does this seem to be moving up a bit faster than the average Currington tune?

Every time I hear this song, the lyrics I hear are: "Sounds pretty good donut, donut" and then I immediately want Krispy Kreme every time.

Surprised we haven't gotten an album release date yet. This is quietly shaping up to be a big hit, though I guess that's been Billy's way of hitmaking for quite some time now. I think this should be able to reach the Gold status at some point. Has had some really good weeks of airplay too recently. This song has really grown on me, and although lyrically it doesn't offer much, the chorus is quite catchy and Billy sings it really well. I'm also a fan of the production on this one. This is just the perfect example of a great radio carefree tune.

Thanks for the idea: Man, I need a little sweetness, quick This ain't about me trying to see how fat that I can get But I ain't gonna lie, I wouldn't mind a little somethin' sweet and fried Box of twelve, hits my lips, drop it into a cup of joe I can sure use a little Krispy Kreme run tonight Man, I could really use one with some glaze on it Strawberry or raspberry flavored jam in it Find the one with some cream in it, custard in it They're long or they're round, and might even have some powder on it Or maybe lots and lots of sprinkles on it It's one of those Tim Horton's, even Dunkin' Gets me feelin' all sugar-high Sounds pretty good, doughnut, doughnut Every little Timbit or crullers, yeah, you know that I want it, want it Sounds pretty good, doughnut Well, I just now seen that sign And I bet it's been a minute Since they baked up a load of original glazed so fine So lemme just buy some tonight Yeah, my blood sugar'll get real high, but I don't mind [chorus] So, yeah, I really love doughnuts Could be a cake doughnut, twist doughnut I bet I eat more than a cop, doughnuts, it's all that I want With maybe lots and lots of sprinkles on it It's one of those Tim Horton's, even Dunkin' Gets me feelin' all sugar-high Sounds pretty good, doughnut, doughnut Every little Timbit or crullers, yeah, you know that I want it, want it Sounds pretty good, doughnut Yeah, doughnut Get me feelin' all right, now Yeah, sounds pretty good, doughnut

It amazes me that this song is about 5 weeks from peaking at #1, and we still don't have an album release date. I know Billy started recording a long time ago, so I can't imagine there's much more that needs to be finished up. This song is moving up relatively fast for a Billy single I guess (at least his latest singles), so perhaps they could have underestimated how well this song was going to do, but it just seems like they should announce a date soon already, and try to capture some of this momentum he's riding right now.

It really started to pick up it's pace over the past 2-3 months, but overall it actually falls right in line with his other chart runs. If it does take 5 more weeks that will match the exact number of weeks it took for "Don't" to reach it's peak of #1 on MB and #2 on Billboard (30 weeks). "Let Me Down Easy" took 29 weeks and "That's How Country Boys Roll" took 28 weeks, and "Hey Girl" in 2013 actually took 31 weeks. I think the announcement should be relatively soon and I expect the second single to be either just released or a couple weeks into it's chart run by the time the album drops, which isn't too out of the ordinary these days, but I agree, the album coinciding with this song's last couple weeks charting would be ideal.

I'm thinking this will easily go to #1, Billy's never had a lot of trouble radio wise. But this song does nothing for me, in fact this'll be 3 singles in a row that I don't like from him. I never considered him among my favorite artists but his albums were always solid (even We Are Tonight) and I always liked hearing his singles on the radio, but these last 3 are just grating to my ears. Literally everything else on the last album was good to me so I'm hoping this single is the only dud on the album.

I don't understand what's going on with Billy, and why we don't have an album release on the horizon. "Don't It" has been on the chart for 26 weeks--that's half a year. Most artists can finish an album in a few months, so I guess I'm just surprised that Billy isn't ready to release a new album, especially since he was ready to release a lead single back in the fall already. I doubt it's the label holding it back, because if the album were ready I am sure they would have set the release date for May or early June. My guess is that Billy probably went back in sometime over the past couple of months and decided to record a new batch of tracks, thus delaying the release.
I hope Billy was initially planning on releasing the album when "Don't It" peaked, because if he knew he wasn't gonna be ready until late summer or fall 2015, then I would have much rather that they released a 3rd single from We Are Tonight. "Don't It" is radio-friendly and it's obviously a hit (and looking like a future #1), but what does it 'add' to country music? What does it add to Billy's career? How does it further his career and his artistic growth? In my opinion, it doesn't. It's just lightweight fluff, a total throwaway song that no one will remember in a year or two. I actually like the song well enough and find myself singing along to it when it's on the radio, but the fact is that it's an average song at best.
I would've much rather seen "One Way Ticket" or "23 Degrees and South" released from We Are Tonight, especially since, again, it doesn't seem as if Billy is ready to release his next album just yet. A 3rd single from his last album would've probably moved up slower than "Don't It" (but only because "Don't It" is a lead single), but I'm sure it would have gone at least top 20, and he had several tracks on the album that were head and shoulders above "Don't It".

^ i thought the countdown he's been having on his Facebook was for the announcement of his album. As of now there are 2 days left for the surprise to be revealed. It could be just a summer tour or something of that sort, though.

jhomes87, the reasons you cited for "Don't It" being a disposable song are part of the reason why I think the album release will be delayed until the next single. I agree that this song is just a mildly catchy, throwaway song and perhaps for this reason UMG is worried it won't sell as many albums as they'd like to, so they are waiting to put out a song with more impact before releasing the album. Also, there's the possibility Mercury is hoping not to have to deal with another 37-week climb to #1 with the second single as they did with "We Are Tonight," so dropping the album while the second single is on the charts might help Billy to preserve some momentum and not take so long to climb the charts. Judging by the way the last era ended after two singles, I can't imagine Billy's label is satisfied with the rate at which he is climbing the charts and they'd probably like to build up some momentum for Billy Currington at radio.

You can hear "It Don't Hurt Like It Used To" on iTunes and Spotify. I like it. It's classic Billy but a little more modern. I think Billy and Dierks Bentley have both traveled similar musical journeys, whereas they sound more refined than they used to but neither have definitively changed their sound or style.

So is this going to hit #1? There is a strong top 5, I'm thinking one of the songs is going to peter out at #2.
Hopefully not this one. Billy is way underrated IMO

A Thousand Horses' "Smoke" was fairly close behind this one on last night's Billboard chart, but they're not ready to go for #1 yet. Tyler Farr seems like he's next in line now that "Raise 'Em Up" is on its way down, but Billy is on fire so far this week and he could wind up jumping ahead of Tyler and blocking him, at least on Billboard if not on Mediabase. Still a little too early to tell, but I really like Billy's chances of getting to #1 with this. It's had a strong run through the top 20 and has always looked like a future #1 to me.

"It Don't Hurt Like It Used To," a track off Billy Currington's upcoming Summer Forever album, is now on iTunes. This song alone has amplified my excitement for Billy Currington's new album. It's an absolutely stellar track and I do hope this is the follow-up to "Don't It." I can see this easily being a sizable radio hit this winter. "Don't It" is definitely shaping up to be #1 next week, and while I don't think this or any second single will get a Clear Channel deal just before the June 2 album release date, a second single should have a little less trouble getting its feet off the ground if the add date is right around the time Billy drops his new album as opposed to "We Are Tonight" which went for adds two months after Billy Currington's last album was released.

Rises to #44 on the Hot 100 this week. And yet "We Are Tonight", in its 75-week climb to #1, didn't get within a light-year of the Top 40 on the Hot 100. Seriously, how did that one stay under the radar even when it was AT #1?

Already a "max spins now for #1" ad for this song in the "This Week's Adds" email from Country Aircheck.
Slightly off-topic now...6 stations were added to the Mediabase panel this past week (WEBG Chicago, KWOF Denver, WPGB Pittsburgh, WNCB Raleigh, KBEB Sacramento, and KSJO San Jose) and none were removed. Prior to the 6 added stations, the total number of stations on the panel was 151. "Don't It" and a bunch of other top 10 songs were 'added' by 6 stations this week (obviously they weren't just added this week, but they're listed as having 6 new adds due to the 6 new stations).
So why, then, in the "This Week's Adds" email, does Billy only have 154 total adds? Shouldn't it be 157? Blake, Brad, Carrie, Dierks, Jason, Keith/Eric, Kelsea, Kenny, LBT, Tim, and Tyler are all listed with 6 adds as well, and with 154 total.
Last week's published Country Aircheck/Mediabase chart listed all these songs as having 151 total stations, so it must be some sort of mistake that today's Aircheck email is listing them as being on only 154 stations (instead of 157) now that the 6 new stations have been added to the panel.
Unless Mediabase changed their mind and removed 3 stations from the panel, but according to AllAccess the only change was 6 new stations. Other formats lost a couple of stations, but not country.

I thought none would be removed either but 154 is the water mark for all the songs in tonight's issue of Aircheck. I can't imagine that's a mistake and there must have been some miscommunication in terms of dropped stations or they simply changed their minds which I also doubt. 151 was the mark one week ago. Very strange.
