yeah they redid truth serum to only have the tracks not included on her album (along with a different habits remix), so now there's only the album version which hasn't really regained its speed. :(

Outside - Lower regions of the chart, possibly.

It's always way behind. I don't understand why. All About that Bass has been number one for weeks, but it's just moving toward the top ten on that chart now.
And that Dance Club chart has me LOL. Ono at #1 and Katy's flop 5th single at #2. And what is with the Amy Grant song?

All I Wanna Do is probably one of the biggest hits of the 90s to stall at #2.

Isn't dance club songs based on DJ playlists? Meaning its basically worthless I'm really surprised they haven't updated their methodology here. Give every DJ a cheap phone with shazam and then collect the total plays -- presto, accurate data.

Yes, I was right:
BTW, do you know who Kristine W is? Well she's had 16 Dance Club Songs #1s, and only charted once on the Hot 100 (at number 78 in 1996). That's how relevant the chart is.

The purpose of that chart isn't to represent what's popular in the mainstream. The purpose is to represent what's popular in the clubs. Club heads from the 90s/early 00s know who Kristine W is. The credibility issue with that chart has to do with the self-reporting measures used, but songs or acts going to #1 on that chart and not being successful on radio/iTunes/YouTube/Spotify isn't the issue with the chart.

It's not a mainstream chart whether it's easy to manipulate or not, so not being dominated by mainstream acts isn't a fault of the chart.

AC airplay is such a joke. Rude at #1 4 months after it peaks on all other formats. What I particularly find even more amusing is that there's the odd song that's almost in line with its peaks on other formats and it ends up peaking before earlier hits (such as how Stay With Me reached #1 before Rude and Am I Wrong)

I forgot to mention here a few weeks ago that it was the 30th anniversary of of the debut of Billboard's Airplay and Sales charts. Before the Oct. 20 1984 issue, Billboard just had the Hot 100 and Bubbling Under chart. Stevie Wonder's "I Just Called To Say I Love You" was #1 on both Airplay and Sales charts: books.google.com/books?id=liQEAAAAMBAJ&lpg=PA1&pg=PA69#v=onepage&q&f=falseIt was also the first issue of a major chart re-design.

Yes- Top 40 Radio Monitor debuted in December 1990; the POS sales chart, though, arrived in may 1991 (neither were used for the Hot 100 until the last chart in November 1991).

It shows how different the landscape was back then. Radio programmers looked at the Hot 100 to guide their instincts. There was R&R, Gavin, & a few others, but no station I worked for really followed their charts till the mid 80s. The days before callouts and micro-research!
Always wondered how the Hot 100 would have looked in the 80s with BDS / Soundscan info.

Well for one thing, all of those songs from the 80s that everybody and their mother knows and loves that somehow only charted in the 30s or 40s would have probably be much higher charting.

www.billboard.com/biz/articles/6296976/slipknot-scores-second-no-1-album-on-billboard-200-chartOver on the Digital Songs chart, Meghan Trainor retakes the No. 1 slot with "All About That Bass," selling 143,000 downloads (down 3 percent). Hozier's "Take Me to Church" has a huge gain, vaulting 13-2 with 132,000 (up a whopping 107 percent). The song is featured in a new TV commercial for Beats by Dre, starring LeBron James. Hozier also got a lot of promotion from Shazam, which sent email blasts about the singer/songwriter to all 11 million of its email subscribers last week. Maroon 5's "Animals" rises 4-3 with 117,000 (down less than 1 percent) and Tove Lo's "Habits (Stay High)," climbs 6-4 with 89,000 (down 7 percent). Taylor Swift's new "Welcome to New York" debuts at No. 5 with 84,000. It's the final preview track from her latest album, 1989, which is on course for a huge debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart next week. Jessie J, Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj's "Bang Bang" dips 5-6 with 82,000 (down 15 percent), Jason Derulo's "Trumpets" is a non-mover at No. 7 with 81,000 (down 6 percent) and Pitbull's "Fireball," featuring John Ryan, zips 16-8 with 69,000 (up 21 percent). Fall Out Boy's "Centuries" jumps 12-9 with 67,000 (down 2 percent) and Sam Smith's "I'm Not the Only One" descends 9-10 with just under 67,000 (down 8 percent). Digital track sales this past week totaled 17.22 million downloads, down 1 percent compared with last week (17.32 million) and down 13 percent stacked next to the comparable week of 2013 (19.89 million). Year to date track sales are at 918.08 million, down 13 percent compared to the same total at this point last year (1.05 billion).
