He went top 10 on Hot Country Recurrents. Can we count that?

Very impressive list. And there are very few subpar songs, to boot.
Strait's longevity is amazing. The commercially successful phase of his career lasted from the early '80s to the early New Tens. Just think of how many hundreds, if not thousands, of artists whose careers began, peaked, and ended during that timeframe, all while Strait continued strong.

An absolutely amazing run. Congrats to him on what has been, as we all know, nothing short of extraordinary.

Someone mentioned on another list, that he was in Key West this last week and supposedly recording at the Jimmy Buffet studio that he likes. No way to confirm that other then they did post a picture of his boat (Day Money) moored at the dock in the Keys. I can only hope. I'm more then ready for new George.

I found this interesting from Billboard today: www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6479962/madonna-44th-number-1-dance-club-songsMadonna ties George's all-genre record with her 44th #1 song. Let's go George...I'm sure there's still a couple in there somewhere. I'm sure there's at least 2-3 more in his career, although I could see them being as duets with bigger stars today. Maybe a duet with Eric Church, Jason Aldean, or Blake would hit the top if the song was right.

Reaching #1 on the Dance charts isn't as hard to do as it is on the Country charts, and Madonna will keep reaching #1 on it as long as she continues to release music, so she'll continue to pull away from George's total. That's not to shortchange George's figures, because in the country genre, that is and likely will remain an incredible showing.

I don't think I've seen a reference book about dance club songs. I hope George Strait can release a killer single this year.

Well you know it was an incredibly sad year for country music when the king doesn't reach the upper tier. Hopefully the music will turn out better in 2015.

The thing that annoys me is that "River of Love" is probably going down as his 'final' #1 hit, because he came so close with 3-5 singles in the past 6 years and came up short with every one. I really wish "Give It All We Got Tonight" at least had been his last #1 hit.

As huge of a George Strait fan I'm here in Western New York (only beaten by straitfan87), I am glad Give It All We Got Tonight did not top the Billboard chart (for sabre14, it did top the MediaBase chart). After all, it was on the chart for 29 weeks before hitting #2 and was part of the ridiculous '60 For 60' campaign.

You guys left out "Here For A Good Time" and "Love's Gonna Make It All Right" as both hit #1 on MB. "Living For The Night" peaked at #2 on both MB and Billboard thanks to Jason's "Big Green Tractor". I know most make fun of the MB only #1's and the pushes the past 4-5 years have gotten way out of hand but everybody in the industry (labels, songwriters, artists) count them regardless. The only reason they get there is the overnight spin totals and it would be nice to see them change their formula to not allow overnight spins to mean as much as afternoon or evening spins.

The only reason they get there is the overnight spin totals and it would be nice to see them change their formula to not allow overnight spins to mean as much as afternoon or evening spins. They left out Mediabase #1's because the record in question (and the article being discussed) is from Billboard. Madonna's new single just became her 44th Billboard #1, which ties her with George for the most Billboard #1 hits. And .indulgecountry simply stated that he wished a better song than "River Of Love" would have been George's last #1...to which I completely agree. ROL is probably my least favorite Strait single. It wouldn't make much sense to count "Here For A Good Time", "Love's Gonna Make It Alright", and "Give It All We Got Tonight" towards a tally of Billboard #1's! :) And even though the campaign was "60 for 60", George doesn't have anywhere near 60 #1's on Mediabase either. My point is, it doesn't make much sense to combine #1's from various charts for some grand total of #1 hits (in Strait's case, 60), but I'm not at all surprised that labels do it.

I did not recall a '40 for 53' campaign for Conway Twitty when Desperado Love was released in 1986. However, it topped the chart during the SAME week Twitty turned 53.

Every now and then I'll check both the ASCAP and BMI song catalogs to see if anything new under George or Bubba Strait have popped up, and sure enough on my last check it came up with three songs that I hadn't noticed before. This isn't to say that George recorded these during his recent session, but these have been placed on hold: "Country Radio" written by Robert Metzgar "Even When I Can't Feel It" written by Dean Dillon, Benjamin Hayslip, Thomas Miller "Things to See and Do" written by Dean Dillon, Kerry Kurt Phillips Not sure what to expect for George's next album, but I think he'll stick with what's always worked for him for now instead of releasing anything like a swing or Sinatra type album just yet.

I dunno man. I can't see Strait taking a chance on recording songs from a unproven writer like this Dean Dillon fella.

I've seen that quite often with songs on ASCAP and BMI. Oh well :/

Anyone know why ASCAP has George listed as a performer for "Forever And Ever Amen"? It might mean he recorded the song at some point but never released it. I'm not extremely knowledgeable about ASCAP and the details of their website, though.

Thinking about what could be coming, I think he would need a top 5 career song to even have a remote chance of climbing high into the charts today. Or a massive label push that works. If George comes out with something that is totally different than what's on the radio today (probable), he'll be lucky to hit the top 30. If he does something similar to what Gary Allan is doing with his new single, I guess there's a chance of success. I get the feeling that this is his last chance as a solo artist, if there's any chance left at all.
