This is pretty good. I remember liking some of their other songs better though. I'll have to go back and see if I can listen to those again. In any case, I'm really excited about these guys. They definitely mix a bit of rock in with their country, but at the same time you can hear a lot of traditional country instrumentation in their music. I think A Thousand Horses has a much better chance to succeed on country radio than The Cadillac Three does.
But I suppose this means that we won't get a release of Maddie & Tae's "Smoke" next year..

Not bad. Kind of a boring melody. I do think these guys might stand a better chance than Cadillac Three but not much.
As far as comparing this to Maddie & Tae's "Smoke", there isn't a comparison. The only thing in common is the title. M&Ts song is superior in every way and I think it could still be released in 2015 depending on the chart life of this "smoke".
I'll call this one peaking at 41

This release also suggests radio may not get Florida Georgia Line's "Smoke" for a while, which surprises me. Unless this is a surprisingly fast-climber, it will likely not peak until after "Sun Daze" and the third single from FGL's second album peak and their fourth single is already on the charts. I'm not sure how many singles Republic plans to release from Anything Goes, but it would shock me if a big hit like FGL's "Smoke" ended up being passed on completely.
I think this sounds like a huge hit. I can definitely see these guys being "the next big thing." Republic Nashville is already looking at a better 2015 than their mediocre 2014.

I think A Thousand Horses will definitely break out next year!! "Smoke" sounds awesome! And they aren't just no Country Rock band, they are a combination of Country, Rock, and Blues.

Why not go for it anyway? Both JMM and Reba had hit songs called How Was I to Know in 1997, and they both even got to #1 on R&R.

Plenty of songs with similar titles have graced the charts at the same time MR Steel Magnolia's "Keep On Lovin' You" and Reba's "I Keep On Loving You" both went top 10 in mid 2010. I think it does play into Dot's thinking about whether to release it but it's not the be all end all because of the same title.

Would be interesting to see the charts with these songs all on it together A Thousand Horses - "Smoke" Maddie & Tae - "Smoke" Florida Georgia Line - "Smoke" Miranda Lambert - "Smokin' & Drinkin'" Kelleigh Bannen - "Smoke When I Drink" Not that I think it'd ever happen just that it would be interesting.

Well, you're already 60% of the way there with A Thousand Horses, Miranda, and Kelleigh (which will likely get a radio release after the new year). :)

^ Lets not forget too that Scott Borchetta is probably already getting ready to make another tribute album to a hard rock/metal band. If its Deep Purple, he'll probably have Justin Moore's version of "Smoke On The Water" on the radio by early next year lol! So look more smoke songs!

This was officially serviced to radio via PlayMPe. Oh and, zack97, It'd be a tribute to Poison and JMoore would sing "Every Rose Has It's Thorn."

Didn't see it listed in here, but "Smoke" is iHeartMedia's On The Verge song choice for January.

Few of the OTV picks could have stood on their own without the treatment. MR

Craig, Chase Bryant and RaeLynn all would have died out without the program.

I agree about Sam's. His was on fire from the get-go. That's why I said "few" not "all" ;)

I think this would've been a hit without any On The Verge assistance anyway, but I guess we'll have to see how it does, especially with digital sales.

AHHHH, thank you On The Verge, thanks to your lovely but not lovely tactics, this song is up already to #32 on Mediabase in just it's 5th day on the chart with a bullet of 1,051 which means 1,051 more spins then a week ago at this time and also a lovely audience of 7.7 mil. I love the song but these programs are for the birds, I know the chart manipulation has been around for years and probably decades but it just continues to get worse and worse each and every passing year.

At this point I've accepted that On The Verge is a program that will probably stick around for the foreseeable future. That doesn't mean I approve of the program, but I've come to accept that it exists and there's really nothing I can do about it.
I do like "Smoke" quite a bit though, and I had it pegged as a likely hit even before it was chosen for OTV. I remember hearing some really good songs on their website last year, but I can't remember the names of all of them. I do remember liking several of them more than I liked "Smoke" though.

It's okay. On it's own, I might like it more but sonically, it just blends in with the homogeneous and indistinguishable male vocalist sound pervasive on country radio.
