What a top ten, huh? I understand the fact that most of those songs are up there because of their prolonged chart runs due to being B (or C) listers but gosh.

What a top ten, huh? I understand the fact that most of those songs are up there because of their prolonged chart runs due to being B (or C) listers but gosh. What a sad looking list. This is really the best country had to offer this year? And I know it's nothing new, but even counting Lady A (2 songs), Little Big Town (1 song), The Band Perry (2 songs), and Faith Hill and Gwen Sebastian features on male led singles (2 songs), females are only present on 10/60 songs. That means that out of 60 songs, only 3 are females only ("Automatic" - #14, "Somethin' Bad" - #47 and "Girl In A Country Song" - #55). 3/60 = 5%. 5%. Wow. And only one solo female (Miranda) in the entire top 60. That's just ridiculous on so many levels.

Interesting to see the correspondence between most played artists and best-selling artists. Eight of the ten best-selling artists make up the top 10 most played artists. The two in the top 10 best-selling artists not in the ten most played artists are Cole Swindell, who is #11 most played, and Lee Brice, who is on Curb Records, which has a bit of a tougher time getting airplay than other labels. Sales seem to be becoming increasingly vital in helping PDs decide which songs to play and I definitely expect sales to continue to have a strong influence in airplay in future years. (I guess this is kind of an obvious thing to point out, but just a few years ago songs could not sell at all and go straight to #1 since radio stations placed a bit more weight on other factors such as listener research surveys, which still have an influence on airplay but perhaps not quite as much as they used to.)
