Damn, that sucks! I finally heard this on my local CHR last night and they intro'd and outro'd it as "Kelly Clarkson's new one, Heartbeat Song!" so maybe it's still got some life in it.

I like the song okay. My age is showing. This sounds and seems like a sure-fire hit to me. It's not. I guess I don't know what an automatic hit is anymore. Then again, Kelly is a veteran artist now. Most veteran artists have to re-invent themselves or play the game, and I don't think she has done either.

Also, it's all relative. Here is Slovenia, I listen to this local CHR commercial station and they are playing Nickelback in heavy rotation. I heard HBS on that station a few days ago too, so I think it will get a lot of rotation in some markets. |

Biggest bullet on the AC chart, bullet is 314, Ed Sheeran's is 286, nobody else is in 3 digits. But the bullet is middle of the pack on Pop and HAC. I'm really disappointed how this has been stalled out on HAC. yeah i dont get it either. its gonna peak lower than freakin dark side??? hmm.. |

Looks very much like it's peaking/peaked. Hope that promo next week turns things around...but worried that programmers will have already calcified in thinking of it as a 'flop.' Hate to be cynical but didn't foresee this stalling outside of Top 10 on HOT AC. Although this sounds like a "hit" to me, I wasn't convinced it was going to the top. However, I did think it would coast rather smoothly into the Top 5 on Hot AC and steadily work its way up into the mid-teens on Pop.
I'm fine with Kelly's chill, come-what-may attitude towards promotion. She's accomplished enough to cut a Greatest Hits album, so she really doesn't have anything to prove and the rest is gravy. But, given that, I think RCA could have done much more to create some excitement on the web for this era. MOSTLY, I can't fathom why her music videos are so low-budget and low-concept when they are so critical for a pop song's success. Moreover, Kelly's a big act with a decade of hits under her belt, thus when she sets to release a new album and drops the first single the moment deserves to be momentous. I know the theory goes that Kelly doesn't like to act and she doesn't like to dance...and so she doesn't care about music videos. That doesn't jibe with me. PLU, although a flop, had a memorable video with a concept and a narrative and it didn't look terribly cheap (thanks nokia and chevy!). Kelly was game and looked spirited throughout. The concept for the TIU video was thin and the production value was low but Kelly romped around and looked like she was having a helluva time. And that single was apparently made just for the fun of it. Anywho, I don't think it's Kelly's decision not to invest in videos, I think it's the label and I don't understand their thinking. People WILL watch a Kelly Clarkson music video when a Kelly Clarkson music video is WORTH watching. RCA should hire talent to create a visually interesting or narratively compelling music video for an artist of her stature, particularly for the 1st single of what should be a long-anticipated album. Something that says, I'm back and ready to slay...and if Kelly really does just wanna stand in the studio, lip sync and flail her arms for a few hours, then find a way to make it work because that doesn't negate the possibility of a share-worthy video.

It's unfortunate they couldn't get a performance on UK X-Factor or the Brit awards. The UK has been one of Kelly's best markets so I can't say I'm too surprised.

The pushback from Hot AC is surprising given her previous successes there.
I wish she was a bit more on for pushing this project. She was able to generate enough momentum to put out 3 successful projects out year after year. She could have really tried to get a bigger wind for whatever she chose to do.
