Hi everyone, I thought it would be a blast to post what songs we are happy or just surprised to be hearing again on our CHR/Top 40 stations! I have found many Hot AC stations play older tunes, but Top 40 tends to make most of their music selection more current.
Here is my example:
Use Somebody by Kings of Leon (2009) :)

Currently hearing "Keep Your Head Up" (2011) by Andy Grammar on a local CHR! :) They played "Perfect" (2011) by P!NK earlier too, which I thoroughly enjoyed!

Unfortunately, it seems like some pop stations have a couple dozen "old" songs which they always choose from. Like on one of the pop stations I listen to just plays current songs, but when they do play old songs it's always the same few that they choose from. It's kind of annoying since there are hundreds of hits every year, and whilst I do like SexyBack or whatever I would like to hear other old songs occasionally.
There's another pop station I listen to where every Friday evening they used to have an hour where they'd choose a year, and play songs from only that year for the hour. The years would be from about 1996-a couple of years before the current year. I really enjoyed that, for nostalgia, hearing songs I'd forgotten about and simply hearing some different songs for a change.

"Feel Good Inc" by Gorillaz. I've always loved that song and I hear it about once a year and it makes me so happy. Also, "Better Man" by Pearl Jam but I haven't heard that since before 2010.

My CHR decided to randomly play Gold Digger! Felt like I was 10 again. Felt so weird to have them call it a 'throwback' but its been a decade already.

Yeah, there are certain Top10 Pop hits that I'd love to hear again, but haven't been played over here on the radio since the 2-3 years it came out. I do love hearing OneRepublic's "Secrets" as I really think hearing it in that "Sorcerer's Apprentice" film revitalized it for me.

I seem to hear "Good Life" a decent amount on HAC and AC stations, which I thoroughly enjoy. My all time favorite from OneRepublic, though, is All The Right Moves," which a local HAC plays fairly frequently. :)

AT40 can really surprise you with their optional segments. Last year, I was pleased to hear "Better Off Alone" by Alice DJ. It may have been played because it had been sampled in a recent Top 40 hit. For them to play a non Top 10 hit from 14 years earlier by a one-hit wonder was pretty impressive.

I heard Sublime's "Santeria" on the drive home today on one of my CHRs and it was nice to hear because A) they rarely play anything 90's and B) even more rarely is that song an Alt song.
Though this is the same station that plays Blink's "All The Small Things" from time to time. Anyway, I enjoyed it.

Great picks everyone! The At40 optional segments sound fun, so not all stations carry those optional ones?

Great picks everyone! The At40 optional segments sound fun, so not all stations carry those optional ones? Unfortunately no. It's an idea Clear Channel (now iHeartMedia) came up with in 2005 for their countdown shows. Stations have the option of 1) airing the extra song provided by that show, 2) airing their own song, or 3) airing local commercials. KIIS (my local station) is hit and miss when it comes to the optionals. This weekend, they aired all four. They'll air the same AT40 show again tomorrow, but if they have more local commercials, then they'll probably skip over them. The nice thing about AT40 is that they rarely air the some optional song twice in one calendar year. So basically, there are at least 200 different optional songs played each year.

I randomly heard "Intuition" by Jewel at the gym a couple weeks ago. It's not a song I love or anything... but I hadn't heard it an very long time.

Hate to dig up an old thread, but for some reason my local CHR has played Incubus's "Drive", Smashing Pumpkin's "1979", Coldplay's "Yellow", and Stone Temple Pilots' "Plush" today. I rarely hear them play throwbacks past 2009, so that was refreshing to hear. EDIT: Add Franz Ferdinand's "Take Me Out" to that list.

I love this thread.
I never listen to CHR or any radio for that matter because I live in a city.
I did, however, hear 'Don't Mess With My Man' by Nivea in my Uber last night and I couldn't take the epic throwback tune coming out of the speaker.

Just heard 3oh3's "Don't Trust Me" about 10 minutes ago on WHYI. Pleasant surprise, haven't heard that since 2009. I also heard Mario's "Let Me Love You" yesterday on the same station which I also haven't heard in years.

And you are right about Don't Trust Me, haven't heard that since 2009. I have one to add....Higher by Taio Cruz on a local CHR.

My local CHR has still been playing amazing throwbacks these past few weekends. They just played "Feel Good Inc" by Gorillaz, "The Middle" by Jimmy Eat World, and "All The Small Things" by Blink-182 in a row.
