Looking a short way into the future -- 3 artists are about to go past the 2,000 point mark. It doesn't happen often, except when it does -- Luke Bryan (1993), Lady Ant (1979), and Miranda Lambert (1922) not only are closing in on a real milestone, but also they all have big point-producing hits on the chart right now. Two of them even have 2 hits on the chart at once.
And the next time Keith Urban charts, he'll go past 4,000 points. That's a much rarer feat, having been done only 61 times previously.

Tim McGraw passes Marty Robbins moving to #14! (7311)
To the first-NO!
To the second-mixed emotions about Tim McGraw passing Marty Robbins, but I'll take it for what it's worth.
Excellent update as always!

I'm sure that no record George gets will last forever, but the 11,200 points is something that will take quite a career to match. Tim McGraw being nearly 4000 points behind and getting credit for all the non-single entries he did when the chart was larger in the 90s really says something to the career GS has had. Personally I don't see Strait catching George Jones unless it's far into the future with duets or "featuring" status songs, but a guy can hope. He would need the combined careers of Brett Eldridge and Kasey Musgraves to even get close :)

Great update as always, K.S.! However to see classic artists matched with today's artists looks weird. A few examples:
Chris Young passes Helen Cornelius moving to #279. (1186)
Big & Rich tie Jim Glaser at #289. (1089)
Florida Georgia Line make a big jump past Jack Blanchard & Misty Morgan, Arlene Harden, Jessi Colter, Baillie & The Boys, Diana Trask, Kenny Dale, McBride & The Ride, Lois Johnson, Stephanie Winslow, Wayne Kemp, Daryle Singletary, Sons Of The Pioneers, The Carlisles, Sweethearts Of The Rodeo, Asleep At The Wheel, Lionel Cartwright, Kellie Pickler, Glenn Barber, Osbourne Brothers, David Wills, Louvin Brothers, Johnny Darrell, Jamie O'Neal, and Johnny & Jonie Mosby. They move all the way to #339. While doing so they become the 362nd artist to cross 800 points! (847)
Sheryl Crow ties The Kentucky Headhunters at #456. (560)
Quite an eclectic mix there!

Bob Kingsley stated last night that Tim McGraw has had 27 number one singles just before playing the underwhelming 'Southern Girl', and i was wondering which artists are between him and Ronnie Milsap, whom I believe had 35 #1 singles?
Thanks!

Those are huge achievements for Tim McGraw and Garth Brooks. Imagine how much higher Brooks would be if he were charting regularly in the 2000s like he did in the 1990s.

Question: I recently said the following about Reba McEntire in one of my columns:
She was inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2011. Her last chart appearance was last year's Silent Night with Kelly Clarkson (her daughter-in-law) and Trisha Yearwood (#51).
So the question is, how many points did she get from that chart appearance and could you please provide the point totals of the top ten artists. Thanks!

Her last chart appearance was last year's Silent Night with Kelly Clarkson (her daughter-in-law) and Trisha Yearwood (#51). So the question is, how many points did she get from that chart appearance and could you please provide the point totals of the top ten artists. Thanks! "Silent Night" scored Reba 31 points. 30 for charting between 51-60 and 1 point for the week it was on. Top 10 as of September 23, 2014 Eddy Arnold - 12,667 George Jones - 11,976 George Strait - 11,203 Johnny Cash - 9,449 Conway Twitty - 9,101 Merle Haggard - 9,058 Reba McEntire - 8,384 Dolly Parton - 8,308 Webb Pierce - 7,975 Willie Nelson - 7,919

Question: I recently said the following about Reba McEntire in one of my columns: She was inducted to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2011. Top 10 as of September 23, 2014 Eddy Arnold - 12,667 George Jones - 11,976 George Strait - 11,203 Johnny Cash - 9,449 Conway Twitty - 9,101 Merle Haggard - 9,058 Reba McEntire - 8,384 Dolly Parton - 8,308 Webb Pierce - 7,975 Willie Nelson - 7,919 Thanks, K.S.! Loving these updates!

One note on Tim McGraw: he's now within 500 points of passing Willie Nelson for an all-time top 10 berth. If he continues at his present trajectory, he should get there early in 2016. I will never think he belongs anywhere near Willie, but if you base it on the numbers, Tim's as deserving of a top 10 position as anybody, and he should move past Dolly and Reba as well as Willie and Webb. Yikes, if he ever catches up to Merle I will quit updating the Whitburn list for good, although I probably will have retired long before that comes along. (Sorry, but I couldn't resist including my private opinion. I do understand how successful and how well-loved Tim is.)
