Nice rally by Toby, enabling him to tie (and next week pass) ET and enter one of the biggest gaps on the chart, nearly a 400 point gap between ET and Jim Reeves. I wonder if Toby will ever score enough points to pass Jim Reeves (and then Alabama, another 300 points into the future).
And Florida Georgia Line sure got to the top 300 really fast. There have been other fast movers (Carrie comes to mind) who did it quickly, which is something I don't track; but it's a rare thing.

I don't track how fast either but I'm kinda watching Thomas Rhett as a fast mover. He could flop on his next album but he's already more than halfway to the top 300 and only on his first album. I think he has potential to make it there almost as quickly as FLG in terms of album count. I'm thinking Toby will make it out of the Tubb-Reeves Gap but I'm not counting on him making it much further than that. Probably topping out just below Alabama.

I think Jason and Dierks will get to the top 100, but some of the others in that point range -- Taylor Swift, Montgomery Gentry, Gary Allan -- may not have an easy time. I do hope that you have to give Gary a +3 move next week.
4300 for Rascal Flatts -- what do people think? Will they get to 4500?

I'm thinking Jason, Dierks and Montgomery Gentry will all make the top 100. The first two will be easy. For MG they're going to have to make sure to keep scoring charting appearances for a few more years. I think they have it in them but it'll be close for sure. It'll also probably not last long as I see Luke Bryan taking their spot before long. Possibly even beating them there.
Gary is a wildcard he can make it but he's seeing less and less success all the time so I'm iffy on his chances.
I'm thinking Rascal Flatts have another 500-800 in them pretty easily. After that I'm not comfortable making a prediction.

Like Trent Tomlinson. At least Jamey Johnson sneaked past 400 and now it looks as if Musgraves will also. Looks like I'll add Swindell and either Parmalee or Eric Paslay or maybe Jana Kramer to my contenders list at mid-year.

Stupid question: Can't we have a rolling .xls-table for everybody to check upon on Google docs? I'd be willing to grant space on my Google Drive.

Looks like we know (or we can assess the probabilities for) who will enter the top 400 in 2015:
1. Easton Corbin's there already, and seems to have enough points to stay in all year. A follow-up single would guarantee his presence. 2. Brantley Gilbert will get there -- probably with his current song, at worst with his next one. 3. Thompson Square, if the Pulsers are right, will have a new single -- and even a top 40 showing will get them into the top 400. 4. Thomas Rhett, who always has strong chart runs, will get to the top 400 with his next single. 5. Gloriana is unlikely to make it, absent a strong top 10 song. I'm betting against them. 6. Kip Moore has to show he is capable of a big hit. His new song started well but now has slowed -- I think he will need to get there in 2016. 7. Brett Eldredge might have enough time, if he releases a new single quickly. But barely so, and I think he'll arrive in early 2016.

I just got curious as to who the top country women of all time are. So I copy/pasted Jonsolo's list from last December and deleted all the men to see who the top 20 women are of all time.
1) 7. (7) Reba McEntire – 8384 (31) 2) 8. (8) Dolly Parton – 8308 3) 24. (24) Loretta Lynn – 6316 4) 32. (32) Tammy Wynette – 5836 5) 36. (36) Tanya Tucker – 5339 6) 41. (41) Kitty Wells – 5134 7) 48. (48) Crystal Gayle – 4522 8) 55. (53) Martina McBride – 4278 9) 58. (57) Barbara Mandrell – 4217 10) 62. (61) Lynn Anderson – 4021 11) 64. (63) Anne Murray – 3901 12) 66. (66) Dottie West – 3858 13) 68. (68) Emmylou Harris – 3801 14) 69. (70) Faith Hill – 3800 (111) 15) 79. (78) Patty Loveless – 3460 16) 80. (80) Trisha Yearwood – 3417 (78) 17) 84. (83) Connie Smith – 3218 18) 95. (95) Janie Fricke – 2993 19) 96. (103) Carrie Underwood - 2973 (162) 20) 110. (110) Kathy Mattea – 2713
Of course these numbers are not going to be completely accurate anymore, since they are from December. But very few of these people will have made any significant changes since then. In June's update we can expect to see Reba gain a hefty handful of points for "Going Out Like That"'s long slow climb to (hopefully) the top 30. Trisha will gain at least a couple points, and then Carrie will have a very nice update since she has been much more active since December than she had been for much of the 2nd half of 2014.
So, let's talk about the future potential of the ladies on this list who could be considered the most active:
-Reba McEntire: I think Reba is going to be a much more constant force thanks to Nash Icon than she has been in recent years. She will undoubtedly gain a satisfying amount of points for "Going Out Like That". It is anybody's guess how her subsequent singles pan out, but if she can manage to make the Love Somebody era last 2 years and have 4 or 5 top 40 singles from it, she could have a couple very strong gains for an artist in their 60's. Do you guys think she could make it any higher into the top 10 artists of all time? She's around 700 points behind the #6 person, Merle Haggard... Whether she can catch him someday or not, I would say that her position as the #1 female of all time is very much secure for awhile. There is absolutely nobody who could pose a threat, unless Dolly somehow manages a top 20 hit or two.
-Dolly Parton: I suppose it is possible she could have another chart appearance or two, especially if she is given credit for contributing backing vocals to another artist's big hit or something. However, I really don't see her moving anywhere at this point.
-Martina McBride: Martina has had a very quiet couple of years, even managing to lose ground thanks to Rascal Flatts and Brad Paisley passing her. But I think she is nowhere near done. Now that she is on Nash Icon, her future singles will most certainly have the same problems as Reba has seen lately. However, she is a decade and then some younger than Reba. Who knows what changes Nash Icon could see over the next few years. Maybe the stations that refuse to play Nash Icon singles will start their own similar competing program, and then the genre will split and those veteran artists will have their own chart to compete against each other rather than the mainstream country stations, and those charts will somehow factor into the Whitburn book too. I'm not saying something like that WILL happen. But my point is, Martina is still young enough of a 'veteran' artist that I think she could still see several years of sustained and consistent success on a label like Nash Icon. They could get her several year's-worth of top 30/40 hits through the Cumulus stations if the label politics stay as they are now. Or something could happen that causes non-Cumulus stations to be receptive of Nash Icon singles, allowing them to chart higher. Either way, she really has nothing to lose, and plenty of time for things to work for her benefit. Of course, she's never going to come close to catching Reba and Dolly... However, I would be quite disappointed if she didn't manage to make it into the top 50 artists of all time. She is only like 200 points away, after all! I would love it if she could give Tanya Tucker a run for the top 5 country females of all time, but I realize that would be considerably more ambitious and probably much less realistic. Basically all we can do is speculate for now, because Nash Icon is such a wild card at this point in time. Either way, something is going to happen very soon once she finally gets new music out to radio... Does anyone have any predictions as to how high she will be able to make it?
-Faith Hill: Faith is an interesting case. I think many people hope that if she ever does succeed in making a comeback, she will come back big. However, the chances of that happening are waning with every passing year. I personally would love to see her have another successful album era or two, but I ultimately do not see her ever catching Martina. I don't even see Faith as one of the top 10 females of all-time. Top 15 feels about right to me. She has squandered too many years in her later career. Even if she has a resurgence, she will be lucky to come within sniffing range of the top 50 artists of all time.
-Trisha Yearwood: It is unfortunate, but I feel like Trisha is going to stay just about where she is right now. She may continue to gain in small chunks here and there, and she may pass Patty Loveless and one or two of the males in front of her. But unless Trisha has a successful album era and Faith continues to do absolutely nothing, she won't be able to make it much further than #15 in the list of all-time country ladies. Until Carrie passes and boots her out, which is inevitable. Trisha could always end up on a label such as Nash Icon though, which could change things... Who knows!
-Carrie Underwood: Finally we come to the only female in the top 20 whose career still has real potential. She has gained basically about 3000 points in 10 years. If she continues to have such success, she could be around 6000 by 2025, which would put her around #30 in the all-time list (and basically the fourth-highest female of all-time). At that point she will be 42 years old and may begin to see waning success. But she could still conceivably earn another 500 points and catch Loretta Lynn for the #3 spot... Only time will tell if she could then get another 2,000 to catch up to Reba, but I am just not sure... Nobody knows if she will even continue to be such a consistent hit maker 10 years from now; if she starts slipping around top 70 or 60 of all time, like Martina did, there is basically no chance she would ever catch Reba. At the rate Carrie has been climbing, I would be willing to bet that she is at least guaranteed a spot in the top 50 of all time, definitely passing Trisha and Faith and probably Martina, regardless of how much gaining they manage to do throughout the rest of their careers. It would be so nice to see her ultimately make the top 10 of all time with Reba and Dolly, but too much is up in the air right now for me to predict that.
And then just outside of the top 20 we still have several artists who could move further up, such as Shania Twain, Taylor Swift, and Sara Evans. I would LOVE to see Sara make a run for the top 100 before all is said and done... Hopefully her next album will bring her some greater success! She is only like 600-700 points away! Taylor is somebody who I would not mind going away and never coming back, mostly because her song "We Are Never Ever Ever Ever Ever Getting Back Together" benefited from being released right when the Billboard methodology changed, giving her like a bajillion-week #1 that was counted by Whitburn because he adopted the mongrel chart... If Taylor goes back to country, I would worry about her becoming the official #1 artist of all time after another couple years of crap like that happening. And as far as Shania goes, she is just kind've racing Faith Hill to see who can do the absolute least and still remain a household name. I would love to see her have success with her next album, but it has been so long since Up! came out that I just don't see her future music making much impact. She is only like 300 points away from the top 100, so I would be happy to see her have another successful album! But I am skeptical at this point. Miranda Lambert is also somebody who I could see making it to the top 15 or so women of all time eventually, even though now she is way back at #169 on Jonsolo's list. When all is said and done, I could see her maybe catching Trisha and Faith, but I am not sure if she could make it all the way to Martina, unless Martina does absolutely nothing and just disappears right now. Miranda had a very slow start to her career compared to Carrie, and that will ultimately hurt her in her long-term positioning I think.
Anyway, what are some of y'all's thoughts on the top 20 or so women, and where they will eventually end up once their careers are done? I am very interested!

I like all the work you did, but I am not optimistic about the future of women singers who disappeared from the radio years ago. Yearwood and McBride could chart a song here or there, but country radio is unkind to its older artists (maybe not as unkind as other genres, but still...) and when you mix that in with the way even currently-active women are treated, I just don't see the same future you do. I do not want to throw cold water on your enthusiasm, but I think adult women who sing country music face a difficult future on the charts. Naturally it could all change.
The women I miss overlap with the ones on your list some but include some others, such as Patty Loveless and Pam Tillis. I can tell myself that they are still touring, recording music, doing the kind of things that would lead to chart appearances -- but I think it's just a story I would be telling myself. Faith Hill is somewhat of a different story and she might be "granted" a comeback by radio, but I suspect it wouldn't last more than one album's worth of singles.
Even Reba, who with George Strait was apparently given a lifetime exemption from penalties associated with aging, can't last forever.
Meanwhile, the new single by Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard is not going to fare well either. And that isn't one of my jokes: they are about to release one. But they're 70 and radio is so unlikely to please me by giving it some spins. Country radio likes songs that name-check its past greats, but it doesn't like to spin songs by its past greats, and that includes women as well as men. But I am secretly your biggest fan, bboat11, and I hope every forecast of yours comes true at the highest possible level. Well, most of them.
I'll leave your comments about contemporary women artists, like Underwood and Lambert, for another occasion.

^^Yes, I will be the first to admit that a lot of my predictions are incredibly bold. Most of it comes down to just having no idea what the future of Nash Icon's artists will be. I just can't help but hope that they have something up their sleeve that will eventually help their artists to get more airplay. That would definitely benefit Reba and Martina greatly. But otherwise, I don't see those two giving up just yet. I really don't think Reba has to do too much more to secure herself a place in the top 10 artists of all time for several decades to come. She has had an absolutely incredible career. Anything she gains from now on will just be icing on an already delicious cake.
And my optimism for Martina comes from the fact that out of all the '90s women she has always been the most consistent with radio (she was never an artist who was guaranteed top 10s, yet managed to remain a very consistent B-lister for like 20 years), and has demonstrated the best ability to maintain relevance. Plus, her only recent misstep with radio was "Marry Me". That song flaming out was her only recent single to not continue her top-20 trend going back to like 2007 or 2008. And she has not released a single since then. In other words, we have not actually seen radio give up on her. We can assume it has, but only because of her age. There is literally nothing about her chart history to suggest that radio moved on. All throughout her career she had occasional missteps that barely cracked the charts, and then went on to continue hitting the top 20 with subsequent songs. Her biggest airplay problem lately has been herself, since she has chosen not to release anything to radio for like 3 years. I do know that her age and gender are very likely going to factor against her when it comes to radio support on her next album, but I want to actually SEE them start to reject her before I count her out.
My optimism also stems from the fact that while all the other Nash Icon artists are in their 60's, she is still in her 40's. Soon to be 50's, but still, she is a full decade and then some younger than her label mates. Therefore, if Nash Icon is going to have an artist to capitalize on, Martina is their best long-term investment... Even if they can only get her to the top 30 or 40, I think they will try to get her as much success as they absolutely can for as long as they can. In other words, I don't see her career just squandering away without some kind of a fight from Borchetta. So my reasoning is all very theoretical, but it is not entirely unrealistic!
And then as far as the other women I mentioned go, I think those predictions are all pretty realistic. It is very true that most of these ladies are going to go absolutely nowhere with the rest of their careers, other than Carrie and Miranda, and possibly Sara. I just feel like Nash Icon is too unknown right now for me to completely give up on Martina and Reba seeing some healthy gains just yet. We should have a better idea in a year or so!
