I'm not counting on it doing too much but I'd love it if it did. I'd like to see vince pass Hank Thompson one day, but even that is a long way off. At least if this charts for a few weeks he should become the 46th artist to cross 4700 points!

I have to agree with you. Vince Gill's last top ten came in 2000 with the #6 peaking Feels Like Love. His last major hit came three years later with Next Big Thing (#17).

"Next Big Thing" peaked at #14 on R&R in early 2003.

"The Reason Why" reached #27 on Mediabase/#28 on Billboard in January of 2007. Not sure that constitutes as a "major hit" but it was certainly better than what "Take Me Down" can accomplish.

Regardless of how "Take Me Down" does for Vince, I doubt Brad Paisley will stay behind him for long. And then Rascal Flatts and Keith Urban are both breathing down his neck as well... I wouldn't be surprised if all 3 of them ended up ahead of Vince when all is said and done (Brad and Keith for sure, but I suppose Rascal Flatts could possibly have trouble catching him). It really sucks that Vince finally will see some chart activity, just in time for him to be pushed backwards.

However, aside from those 3, he is quite safe in the top 50. Martina is probably the next closest "threat", in the sense that she is still a viable recording artist who is likely to earn a few points here and there for the next several years and (hopefully) make an attempt for the top 50 despite not being able to make any major progress. Otherwise Vince should be pretty safe until people like Blake Shelton and Carrie Underwood come knocking :)

Good points in your post. However, you seem to have summoned Blake Shelton back to the charts. His new song is very likely to get him to 4000 Whitburn points, and that means about 700 points behind Vince Gill. It won't take Blake all that long to pass Vince. Seems like a lot of Oklahoma artists are in this section of the Whitburn list, or on the way.
