Artist: Tim McGraw Single: "Diamond Rings and Old Barstools" (with Catherine Dunn) Album: Sundown Heaven TownWriters: Barry Dean, Luke Laird, Jonathan Singleton Label: McGraw Music/Big Machine Records Add Date: January 26 Source: Rolling Stone CountryThe next contender? The slow-burning dusty ballad "Diamond Rings and Old Barstools," a duet with his cousin Catherine Dunn that will be released as a single in the next few weeks. "It's a good country song," he says, "with a real bite to it." Audio:

YES! The best song from his new album IMO. Thankfully Tim is an A-lister who can send this type of song to at least the top 10. (Of course it should go #1 though :) )

I wonder if this'll get Dunn enough attention to get a Wikipedia article. Right now I can't find a thing about her that doesn't involve this song.

She's also a speedskater: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Catherine_Raney-NormanAlso, she contributed on the Flicka soundtrack with All The Pretty Little Ponies. Guess who was in that movie? That's right!

Definitely not what I expected; Overrated or Keep On Truckin' were the safer choices and I do hope they see radio one day.
That being said, what a beautiful choice for a single. In this radio environment, it may be a risk but to me this is a surefire classic Tim McGraw #1 hit.
What a great choice. If the big names of country continue trending back toward this style, we are in for a much stronger 2015.

Pretty sure that's a different person. Also, she contributed on the Flicka soundtrack with All The Pretty Little Ponies. So she's a brony?

I would've preferred the order of his next two singles to be "Overrated" and then this one, but the fact that this is being released at all is definitely great news to me. This is one of my favorite tracks on a rather loaded album and I'm looking forward to hearing this on the radio and seeing it be a success. I'm glad that "Lookin' for That Girl" notwithstanding, the singles from Sundown Heaven Town have been so spot-on.
This song is just great though. I'm ecstatic that they're releasing such a good, country song to radio, and I'm happy knowing that he's riding pretty high right now, so I expect this to perform quite well.

Finally a good song from Tim. It was a long time since "Better Than I Used to Be".

A cynic might say that all the superstars have to release one like this -- Kenny and Grace Potter, Tim and his speed-skating cousin. But I am not a cynic, and this is the best single I've ever heard from Tim. Granted, I don't especially like Tim, but if he created music like this more often, I sure would.
Maybe Marv would help me rewrite history, going through the Curb years, finding all the great singles that never were -- but I'm going to enjoy this one while it lasts, rather than bemoaning the choices of the past. I'll just leave the piece of paper (with all his missed opportunities) blank.

Perfect choice in my opinion. Overrated sounds a little close to Shotgun Rider IMO, so they can real ease this one first then follow it up with Overrated. Not sure if even Tim can get this song to #1, I mean it is "traditional sounding" and all (gasp!), but I think Top 10 won't be a problem. This is real country music, and I hope this influences other artists to lean more traditional in the near future.

My second favorite on the album, behind "Still On The Line". Beyond thrilled with this choice, and I think it'll be a huge hit for him.

I'm loving that a lot of the big names are starting to head back to traditional sounding songs!
This is my favourite single from Tim since "Angry All The Time" over a decade ago!
I'm loving this album era more and more with each single, though that's going to end with this one as it's my favourite on the album.
The next singles can be whatever after this and I won't care, the era has been perfect!

I was thinking/hoping it would be "Overrated" next, followed by this one, but this works too. It's nice to see so many big names releasing good songs as singles lately.

the era has been perfect! "Lookin' For That Girl" would like to have a word with you. It was perfect in two ways! First: It flamed out so fast! Second: It probably scared Tim and his team into releasing stronger songs! (That's my theory and I'm sticking to it!)

I do agree though that the single selections and quality of songs have made many forget about that abomination, which is quite the feat. :)

Now to continue the wave of good songs with this, "Overrated" and "Portland, Maine". I can hope anyway, haha.

I love "Portland, Maine" and "Overrated" is so catchy! "City Lights" and "Sick Of Me" are also strong picks as well. Honestly I hope they go 8 singles deep if they keep up the pace of the singles so far! If they slow down then no of course not. Hopefully Tim doesn't want to release another album this year cause I want them to go deep into this album!

Is this the same "Overrated" that Lee Brice didn't release?

Is this the same "Overrated" that Lee Brice didn't release? No, but that song had a similar "feel" musically. Aside from that, substantially different.

Just another misstep in her career from 2008 on :( Faith's version of Overrated live begins at 7:55 www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3K3tzPNDWAThanks. It's such a shame that she never released some of these songs that she's had over the last few years.

I think "Overrated" was initially supposed to be a single for Faith, and at one point I think it was even considered for an album title before they settled on Illusion. It seems obvious that Faith and her team are still trying to come up with the right comeback plan, but who knows.
I agree that this is one of Tim's best singles, ever. I really enjoy some of his recent pop-country hits, especially "Felt Good On My Lips" and "Highway Don't Care". And of course there was the vastly underrated and under-promoted "Me And Tennessee" from the Country Strong soundtrack. But for the most part, ever since the 2010 release of "Felt Good On My Lips", Tim has really been on a roll, and I've liked almost all of his singles, with several of them ranking among my favorite Tim singles. I've liked 9 of his last 12 a lot (that includes this one and also FGOML and "Right Back Atcha Babe", but not the Curb-released "Twisted" which was actually a Colt Ford song featuring Tim that Curb put on one of their bogus re-packaged 'hits' albums. "Better Than I Used To Be", "Meanwhile Back At Mama's", and "Shotgun Rider" were all very strong country songs. I didn't really care for any of the singles from Southern Voice though, and Curb really screwed up with singles from the Let It Go album (I did like a few of them, though).
There were very few Tim singles that I liked from 2004 into 2010 though. His 90's and early 00's stuff is the stuff I grew up on, and a lot of those songs really get the nostalgia feeling going for me.
I really hope this is another big hit for Tim. I'll go ahead and predict another #1 hit for him here.

Man Tim is really gunning for an album of the year nom, either at ACMs or CMA's this November. I can't remember another string of 3 singles that were so country sounding. I would have never expected from Tim McGraw. Usually where there's a "Meanwhile Back At Mamas", right afterwards is a "Felt Good On My Lips". But these 3 singles since "Looking For That Girl" have been spot on. If they pick a gem for 4th single, this album era might be my favorite from Tim

There are quite a few songs on this album that lean more towards that traditional sound we heard in the 90s and even early 2000s. Sure, there are the ones that are more fit for today's radio environment. IMO though, this album is representation of how country should sound - omitting, "Lookin' For That Girl."
