I think "Thinking Out Loud" has a great chance to hit #1 on the Hot 100 around Valentine's Day. It's going to have an insane amount of promo by that point with the Grammy's, plus it's a great love song that I think a lot of people will eat up at that time of year. And since 2/14 is also a chart tracking week for 2015, it would be neat if it actually hit #1 for that chart date. Katy Perry is planning to release her new single "Legendary Lovers" on the SuperBowl, so that could have gains too that week.

I think it's a bigger issue than that for Taylor Swift. She puts a lot of effort into writing music and there's a lot of stories of how Spotify doesn't compensate enough for songwriters and singers who put their music on Spotify, which is why I think she pulled her catalogue from Spotify. I think it's more of a moral issue than her/ her label being cheap or what not. Except the compensation bit isn't her real issue with Spotify. She's on other streaming services, like Rdio and Pandora(who has the lowest payout of all streaming services). They have no issue with her being on passive services or straight paid on-demand services. They're real gripe was that Spotify has an ad-based free tier (that still pays the same payout from my understanding) so that people could listen to her music for "free" (except they aren't really, they're just passing the coast of listening to another company who bought ad time). They don't want people to start to think they can get Taylor's music for nothing (even thought they arent). The argument about artist payout is an emotional appeal to fans mostly. I think it is a compensation issue though. You're basically listening to an album, a regular album might cost $15, but how much does Spotify compensate a regular artist when their whole album gets streamed if the monthly fee is $10.00, and users listen to hundreds of albums per month? It is very low, especially for an on-demand service. Someone could be streaming all of Taylor Swift's albums, and the amount of revenue she receives from that is next to none compared to actual album sales. Maybe if Spotify wants access to her music, they will have to change their policies on what fair compensation is to the artist.

The not-quite-confirmed next track from '1989' bows. Plus, Madonna and Reba McEntire each return to their longtime respective stomping grounds.
Chart Highlights offers a sneak peek at a select group of Billboard charts every Monday. (All charts below are based on radio airplay except for Dance Club Songs, which is based on reports submitted by a panel of DJs.) Find out the top songs, Greatest Gainers and debuts on the surveys listed below.
Pop Songs *** No. 1 (5 weeks)*** "Blank Space" Taylor Swift Greatest Gainer No. 14 "Thinking Out Loud" Ed Sheeran Debut No. 30 "Outside" Calvin Harris Featuring Ellie Goulding
Debut No. 39 "Style" Taylor Swift As Taylor Swift tops Pop Songs for a fifth week with "Blank Space" and Adult Contemporary for a seventh frame with "Shake It Off," a third cut from 1989 debuts: "Style" enters Pop Songs at No. 39. Despite widespread speculation that the song is the set's third single, Republic Records, which is promoting it to radio, isn't yet confirming. On Dec. 28, Scott Borchetta, president/CEO of the Big Machine Label Group (which released 1989), was asked by a fan on Twitter, "What's Taylor's next single?" Borchetta promptly responded, "I'M LEANING TOWARDS STYLE… YOU?" (Radio seems clearly in agreement.)
Debut No. 40 "She Knows" Ne-Yo Featuring Juicy J
Adult Contemporary *** No. 1 (7 week)***/Greatest Gainer "Shake It Off" Taylor Swift Greatest Gainer No. 11 "Blank Space" Taylor Swift Debut No. 22 "Jealous" Nick Jonas Debut No. 28 "Therapy" Mary J. Blige Debut No. 30 "Lips Are Movin" Meghan Trainor

Dance Club Songs *** No. 1 (1 week)*** "Go All Night" Gorgon City Featuring Jennifer Hudson Greatest Gainer No. 3 "Uptown Funk!" Mark Ronson Featuring Bruno Mars
Debut No. 32 "Living For Love" Madonna The Queen of Pop returns to her queendom, as "Living for Love" launches at No. 32. It's her first entry since "Turn Up the Radio" in 2012, which became her record-extending 43rd No. 1 on the survey. "We knew we wanted to make a dance record. But you know, there's so many different levels of dance music and even different categories of house music," Madonna told Billboard last month of the song that she helmed with Diplo. "So, it was really like, what's the bass line gonna sound like? Is it gonna be really stripped down and sparse, or is it going to be loaded up? Is it gonna be Chicago house? Is it gonna be U.K. house? It's like, all over the place. Is it gonna be a little bit of one vocal line? Is it gonna be a whole choir singing? So, we were experimenting and trying out different things. They all sounded good, but at the end of the day, we wanted it to sound timeless also. Not just something of the moment."
Debut No. 39 "Young Blood" Bea Miller Debut No. 41 "Wrong Club" The Ting Tings Debut No. 45 "Move" Jenevieve X Debut No. 46 "Fly Alone" Breanna Rubio Featuring Fat Joe Debut No. 47 "Time Of Our Lives" Pitbull & Ne-Yo Debut No. 48 "Aware Alive Awake" Sariah Debut No. 49 "Flashback Rewind" Aneesh Gera & Lisa Williams Debut No. 50 "All I Feel Is You" Natalia Safran

It's the music "business." Not the music "please take all my music for free." Kids, now a days! (lol) But as you can see every other artist and label in the industry is also in the music business yet you don't see them acting so greedy and not even allowing it onto a soundtrack (if this is true that the label intentionally prohibited her music from being on the soundtrack, which for all we know may not be the case). Again, it's the "God forbid a single soul hear our song for free - we will instantly go bankrupt the moment that happens!" mentality that gets to me. and FYI 20 years old = adult, not a kid! I'm done with this discussion.

I agree that people shouldn't complain about Spotify's royalties.
Firstly, pretty much everybody I know legally downloads, people should be grateful to those who listen to music legally and contribute SOME money through Spotify. Many artists who aren't even famous give out their music for free, so why can't Taylor? She must be very rich, it's not like she's having money issues. I reckon her pulling her music off Spotify was for marketing reasons (i.e. do something that seems risky and controversial to get media attention and rile up the fans), or a major label wanting to make more money from streaming and using their biggest artist to try and convince Spotify to pay more in royalties.
This is just the start, I won't be surprised if at one point one of the major record labels gets too frustrated with the low royalties and just takes all their artists of Spotify. There was a label in the UK that did this in the early half of the 10's.

Maybe if Spotify wants access to her music, they will have to change their policies on what fair compensation is to the artist. It is not lower than the other on demand services in any meaningful way. 1500 streams is an equivalent revenue generator to equal 1 album sale. But Taylor's label doesn't have to worry about revenue. They are selling albums. Their issue with Spotify is the idea that people can listen to tracks for "free" because they can choose to use the ad supported tier and not pay out of pocket. That is literally the reason they pulled out of Spotify and not Rdio and others. They are trying to protect the idea that Taylor's albums should be paid for in full by the consumer instead of passed on to advertisers. Believe me, the label has made millions off album and track sales and video streams. Taylor has too, and will make millions more when her tour starts. Pull out of spotify is not about revenue, it's about how she wants to actually sell her music. For Taylor it works because she has a fan base that's willing to buy. It would not work for everyone.

I don't really get the "greedy" argument about Taylor's label. Every company is "greedy" in the sense that they're trying to earn money. No label could exist if it was just trying to be nice; it has to earn a profit.
Taylor is probably not on the Now compilation because I'm guessing they must distribute that to streaming services that her label doesn't approve of.
Why does this bother people anyway? Just buy the album (or songs) if you really want them.
In any case, sales/streams of music don't make any artists meaningful money at this point. You really do have to be Taylor Swift-sized to actually earn money selling your music. Her situation applies to pretty much no one else.

Where do you get all this info?!? Or do you copy it all from the original charts?

I think it is a compensation issue though. You're basically listening to an album, a regular album might cost $15, but how much does Spotify compensate a regular artist when their whole album gets streamed if the monthly fee is $10.00, and users listen to hundreds of albums per month? It is very low, especially for an on-demand service. Someone could be streaming all of Taylor Swift's albums, and the amount of revenue she receives from that is next to none compared to actual album sales. Maybe if Spotify wants access to her music, they will have to change their policies on what fair compensation is to the artist. Well said, I can see where Taylor is coming from given all the effort she puts into songwriting and singing, she doesn't just sing what someone gives her, she's really involved in all steps of the music process. But I agree with everything you've said :)

Top 10 flashbacks for this week 1 year ago (1/25/2014)
1 1 Timber - Pitbull feat. Ke$ha (2nd week of 3 @ #1)2 2 Counting Stars - OneRepublic 5 years ago (1/23/2010)
1 1 TiK ToK - Ke$ha (4th week of 9 @ #1)2 2 Bad Romance - Lady Gaga 10 years ago (1/22/2005)
1 1 Let Me Love You - Mario (4th week of 9 @ #1)2 2 1, 2 Step - Ciara feat. Missy Elliott Wow, what a strong trio of amazing #2 singles: Counting Stars, Bad Romance, and 1,2 Step. The fact that they all were peaking and being blocked in the same week in history is pretty cool.

CS & BR should've topped the chart.

Whatever song had more points during the week should've topped the chart, which - in this case - was definitively 'Timber' and 'Tik Tok.'

Can we all just agree that we all agree that whatever song had more points during any given week should be #1. But that doesn't mean I don't think a different song should've been #1. lol

What caused I lived to be so high on digital sales?!! Wasn't it discounted to $0.69? I wonder how many weeks "Uptown Funk" will get at #1.
