Yes, but she doesn't need Spotify like other artists... she's been pretty much everywhere since Shake It Off came out! The promo this era is INSANE! If someone hadn't heard it by now, I think they're doing that intentionally. And I'm not sure how you're saying she is losing money with it when the album sold even more than Red did first week + has sold consistently since! Rather than sacrificing her feelings of Spotify and leaving it on there, she pulled it, and has reaped the benefits!

And... meh... Taylor isn't going to gain much from signing onto NOW 53... I understand it sells well, but no one is going to care that she isn't on it imo, when they can just go download her hits from iTunes. NOW really doesn't serve much of a purpose anymore imo.

I think "Thinking Out Loud" has a great chance to hit #1 on the Hot 100 around Valentine's Day. It's going to have an insane amount of promo by that point with the Grammy's, plus it's a great love song that I think a lot of people will eat up at that time of year. And since 2/14 is also a chart tracking week for 2015, it would be neat if it actually hit #1 for that chart date.

Still it could help. It's just sad to see that people are so money-crazy that they refuse to put a song even on a NOW compilation (at least that is what we are stipulating to be the reason for Taylor's songs not being on the NOW compilation) and that was my original point. That's just what blows me away and makes me really sad with the world. So what's the big deal if someone somewhere will hear your song for free? I can guarantee 100% that you won't go bankrupt because of it.

I'm not getting angry at you, I'm just giving my thoughts, but all of your comments have seemingly been pointing the blame towards Swift, which is why I said that. Taylor has a lot of influence with her label and she's spoken out against Spotify many times, so I wouldn't be surprised if she did have something to do with it.

I just hate the "God forbid anyone hears our song for free or for a lower price than iTunes sale - we will instantly go bankrupt the moment it happens!!!" mentality of the label. It really irks me. Maybe that's just me but I find it kinda frustrating.

Ok anyway back to the Hot 100: I think UF will be #1 for 4 or 5 weeks before TOL takes over. What do you guys think?

I think it's a bigger issue than that for Taylor Swift. She puts a lot of effort into writing music and there's a lot of stories of how Spotify doesn't compensate enough for songwriters and singers who put their music on Spotify, which is why I think she pulled her catalogue from Spotify. I think it's more of a moral issue than her/ her label being cheap or what not.

Except the compensation bit isn't her real issue with Spotify. She's on other streaming services, like Rdio and Pandora(who has the lowest payout of all streaming services). They have no issue with her being on passive services or straight paid on-demand services.

They're real gripe was that Spotify has an ad-based free tier (that still pays the same payout from my understanding) so that people could listen to her music for "free" (except they aren't really, they're just passing the coast of listening to another company who bought ad time). They don't want people to start to think they can get Taylor's music for nothing (even thought they arent).

The argument about artist payout is an emotional appeal to fans mostly.

Besides no true fan would go to youtube to download her songs anyway.

Trust me, saving LQ MP3s from Youtube is not their biggest concern. If I want the album in HQ, it's not hard to find googling.

The worst part about Taylor's label is with mashups. They delete and give strikes on YouTube to any 1989 mashup. I uploaded a mashup of Troye Sivan's Happy Little Pill and Taylor's Blank Space a few weeks ago (which Troye tweeted), and I had to remove the audio in fear of it being deleted, as my mashup of Sia's Big Girls Cry and Blank Space (which used a cover instrumental which isn't even the label's) got me a strike. They really need to calm with this copyright stuff..
