Hoenstly, I think you could do this for any genre for any part of any year. They've just chosen "Bro Country songs" as a way to prove why it's "killed" country music (or that's my theory at least).

This is hilarious and awesome at the same time, and I like 3 of the songs used here too haha. Also currently on the front page of reddit.

I completely agree. You could just as easily do one for Pop, Rap, and Dance music. Rock might be the only different sounding one, but that's mostly because there are so many different Styles of rock these days (metal, indie, garage, etc.).

That's actually kinda neat that someone was able to put that together as well as they did. I'm sure that took a lot of work, even for someone who was good at operating that software that was used to make it. But I enjoyed that, even though the existence of it is pretty sad considering just how interchangeable all those songs were.

Although I do have to say they DID change the octives of some of the deeper voiced artists (Chase Rice is one) to make it 'sound the same' with vocal/lyrics.

Matt Thomas of Parmalee sounded quite a bit deeper. I was thinking that the creator of the video had to alter the vocals to avoid copyright issues. That's a pretty common thing for people to do when they put songs up on YouTube.

Yeah, Tyler Hubbard's voice definitely sounded different to me in that video, for instance.

Tyler Hubbard sounded ridiculously higher than he usually is and Matt definitely was lower in his vocals.

Rock might be the only different sounding one, but that's mostly because there are so many different Styles of rock these days (metal, indie, garage, etc.). Sure, but on the other hand, I don't think that one could pull this off using, say, "American Kids," "Something in the Water," "Little Red Wagon," "Gentle on My Mind," "Say You Do," and "What We Ain't Got." And I think that's the point. It's no secret that country radio was dominated for a couple of years by songs that were not only incredibly similar musically but also lyrically -- that's the foundation of "Girl in a Country Song." The video just happens to be an especially vivid illustration of that. It comes, though, at a time when much of the industry seems to agree that the formula in question has played itself out.

The pitch was changed likely because the songs are in different keys, and they had to be raised/lowered to fit properly.

As much as I dislike most of those songs (except "Drunk on You" and "Close Your Eyes"), this is really cool. I know that really wasn't the intention of this video, but all of us already realize how all bro-country sounds the same haha.

One of my FB friends posted this video in my newsfeed the other night as the reason why she doesn't listen to current country music anymore. *I silently agreed with her* ;)

I always love mashups. That's a pretty good one. Obviously everything is pitch-adjusted. As TenPoundHammer said, the songs wouldn't have matched up unless the pitch was adjusted. This isn't anything out of the ordinary for mainstream music and I'm surprised only 6 songs were included. That's one of the most popular chord progressions to use in songs. Based on the musical scale, there are only so many repeating progressions that the majority of us find to be sonically appealing. I hold a higher standard for country music than pop, so I would hope that the writers we have in Nashville do a little better job in the coming years of being more creative with those progressions, but I digress. I'm sure most of you have seen this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOlDewpCfZQ. Think about how many of those songs are recognizable and they all use the same progression (albeit some songs starting with a different note, but cycling through regardless).
