I won't declare ANYONE as a one hit wonder any more since I said that about Rihanna, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga LOL Haha I don't know anyone who predicted Rihanna correctly And the opposite: who would've thought that Duffy would never record a third album (that's not set in stone yet though)

She really hustled.

I'm honestly not a fan at all, but congratulations are due. I am shocked that she has managed to possibly stick with audiences but it is what it is. Good on her.

Compared to the rest of the artists that hit big in 2014, Meghan is far and above exceeding expectations.
She'll have sold more in her first week than Magic, Tove Lo, and Charli XCX will possibly sell total.

HDD update (from a larger piece):
Meghan Trainorβs Title (Epic) will bow at #1 on next weekβs chart with 175-200k, according to early reads. The artist/songwriter, coming off back-to-back smashes and major Grammy nods, zoomed to #1 at iTunes this morning as her album went live.

WHO WOULD RAIN ON MEGHANβS PARADE? As Trainor Prepares for Yearβs First Big Debut, The Bible Takes a Puzzling Shot January 13, 2015 Meghan Trainorβs Title (Epic) will bow at #1 on next weekβs chart with 175-200k, according to early reads. The artist/songwriter, coming off back-to-back smashes and major Grammy nods, zoomed to #1 at iTunes this morning as her album went live. Reviews (including an βAβ in Entertainment Weekly) have been stellar across the boardβwith one glaring exception. At this vital moment in her careerβwith Grammy voting coming to a close and show producers weighing her role in the telecastβmuch chatter surrounds the recent negative review of Trainorβs album in the βindustry bible,β which was e-blasted out on Monday. Why this attempt to diminish Trainor at a definitive point, with her star ascendant? BBβs decision-makers want to be power brokers, and see a high-profile review as one way of exercising veto power on rising stars. More importantly, a new, female artist having a debut this big, especially in the first weeks of the year, typically the doldrums for salesβand becoming a major starβis huge news for the biz. Blasting out a dismissive review, which could affect Trainorβs TBD role in the Grammy show, among other consequences, suggests the bible has fully missed the point, and has traded its responsibility as a music-biz trade for a few short-term clicks. www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/newsPage.cgi?news10256m01We have a new STAR! I'll be absolutely beside myself if she manages to near the 200k mark...in the middle of January.

I like that song but my favorite on the album is "Like I'm Gonna Lose You". I listened to the full album on youtube and everything was in the lane of good but samey. *also for others i was half kidding about her image its called a joke but if i felt her music was great it wouldn't matter that she is too nice and sweet and wholesome when i know she is probably a cunt.

Why are people surprised? AATB was MASSIVE and LAM is even better. Good for her! Interested to see if she will have longevity. Call Me Maybe was massive too, but Carly still pulled in less than 50k.

I think what has worked in her favor that she has an image (people know her face). You can't say the same as Carly, hell I can't even tell you how she looks now. Her label has done terrific with branding her two songs with her face. Most labels usually miss that mark and just focus on having a huge hit, but no artist development for the public. These numbers don't shock me because she has been everywhere, image wise and I don't even listen to her. The label planned out a good "personal" layout for her.

I would say Call Me Maybe was bigger than All About That Bass but what worked in Meghan's favour is that her song was more directly related to her whereas CMM wasn't for Carly. While it's distinctly Carly, it could have been sung by anyone else and the lyrics wouldn't mean anything else. AATB helped give Meghan an image because the lyrics are about being a bigger person so people might have been more interested in checking out whether the lyrics reflected the singer.

The "I wonder how fat she is" gets people to recognize her and get to know who she is. With repeated exposure, that leads to sales.

The song with John Legend is amazing. Never would have thought they'd sound well together.

The song with John Legend is currently 67 on iTunes, highest album track that wasn't on the EP.

Great number for Meghan, totally exceed my expectation (I doubted she will be able to pull ahead of 1989)
Anything about Ella? I'm thinking of 30-40k.

YOUR NEW RELEASES: The weekβs major new releases issue entirely from the Sony camp, with Epicβs mighty Meghan Trainor leading the pack. Can her Title hit 200k in sales? Itβs been five years since an album has reached or exceeded that threshold in a single week in Januaryβin 2010, Lady Antebellumβs Need You Now opened with 481k. Here are this weekβs key debuts: Meghan Trainor (Epic) 185-195k sales, 225-235k SPS Kidz Bop Kids (Razor & Tie) 70-75k sales, 70-75k SPS Mark Ronson (RCA) 24-27k sales, 60-65k SPS Jazmine Sullivan (RCA) 27-30k sales, 28-32k SPS Ella Henderson (SYCO/Columbia) 18-20k sales, 27-30k SPS Of course, factoring in Grammy nominee Trainorβs two massive singles pushes her total up by 40k or so, calculated as 10% of track sales on our SPS (Sales Plus Streaming) chart. Her second smash, βLips Are Movin,β is currently #4 at iTunes. (1/14a) www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgi

Her SPS total last week was 25k, I don't think sales of the two singles along is going to get her to 40k TEA. They must mean all TEA/SEA.
