I'm surprised by how this week has turned out so far for Dan + Shay this is the second straight day it's lost audience it's probably gonna get back on the straight and narrow but it should be fine.

^You really think they'll go four singles deep? This'll go at least top 5 and probably #1, but their album has been out close to two years and while this did restore some of their momentum I don't think they've got enough to get another single from this era up the charts very quickly. It could be another 40-week climb, and then that would mean their next album may not come out until late next year, or even early 2017. Not to mention their album doesn't appear to be selling much and this single wasn't exactly strong on the digital front either. I would love if they did decide to go ahead and release a fourth single since I love literally every track on this album, especially "First Time Feeling," "Somewhere Only We Know," and "What You Do to Me." Personally I thought they had like five or six #1 hits on this album. It's disappointing to see how things have turned out. A combination of bad luck on the charts and disappointing single decisions kind of got in the way here. They could pull a single off of this album and then put that on the next album too. wouldn't shock me at all if they did that. That way they're not punting the quality material on this record and not ignoring the need to issue a second album (or EP project). OR they could issue a "deluxe" version of the album with 4-5 new tracks, visit one of those as the next single and pull an old single as the follow-up.

My pick would be the sure-fire hit What You Do To Me or my personal favorites, Stop, Drop & Roll or Parking Brake.

WHAT YOU DO TO ME FOR SINGLE #4
That just screams monster hit to me. I'm so very glad to see "Nothin' Like You" become the hit "19 You + Me" deserved to be. D+S's debut album is packed with stellar songs so I wouldn't be surprised to see them go for single #4 if "Nothin' Like You" hits #1. And if they do, it should 100% be "What You Do To Me".

"What You Do To Me" and "Stop Drop + Roll" would be my two choices for 4th single, but honestly "First Time Feeling" and "Parking Brake" sound like hits as well.

There's still something about the lyrics that rubs me the wrong way. As I said, it kinda has that off-putting "white guy with guitar" style to it from a lyrical standpoint, in the way that it's kinda pseudo-conversational and somehow comes off as fake and smug ("laughing at your stack of books"? Really? Who the hell talks like that?). It's really hard to describe, since production wise, this isn't a WGWG song at all. But just the way it's written makes it feel like that to me.

With "John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16" falling below today, Dan + Shay will officially score their first top 10 single on MB tomorrow.

Too bad this week Dan + Shay have had a horrific week when it comes to gains this week or am I going crazy it appears Dan + Shay didn't gain anything at all this week and that's not a good sign since they should start getting Top 10 conversions.

"Nothin' Like You" should move up a few spots in the MB top 10 this Sunday with Brett falling below and Kenny going recurrent. Chase could see greater negatives in the coming days that would allow for Dan + Shay to leap him as well; that would bring this song to #6, as long as they can stay ahead of Chris.
This song has seen good sales and good research right now, other than having the second highest burn rate of any song in the MB top 10 (Mediabase's Callout Research), but that shouldn't be too much of a deterrent (it actually has the highest positive score on the entire chart that is bulleted). I definitely see this getting to the top 3 and a good possibility for a MB only #1. Carrie and Chris' songs being in the thick of it when "Nothin' Like You" peaks isn't ideal timing but considering that this duo's previous single peaked below the top 20 and had seemingly little momentum back in February (when this single was released), this outcome thus far is a huge win for Warner Music Nashville.

Wish someone would change the genre name on Wikipedia to Country Pop. On the page for "Nothin' Like You" it's genre is Bro Country which makes no sense. There is nothing disrespectful about this song.

I'd actually be surprised by this point if this didn't end up topping both charts. Carrie will go up ahead and be falling by the time this is ready to go for #1, and imo this'll either go up ahead of or behind Chris but I don't see "I'm Comin' Over" blocking it. Warner may be the best label at getting songs to #1 once they've made the top 10, so there's also an advantage there.

Yeah, a lot of IP addresses vandalise Wiki pages to classify them as bro country (I'm not a huge supporter of it, but still). Like someone classified Anywhere With You by Jake Owen as a bro country song lol

I wonder what has made this one click even more than "19 You + Me", aka the only one of their singles that I liked. As I keep saying, I find that the lyrics of this one have a really smug, fake insincerity to them that I find off-putting, and come to think of it, "Show You Off" kinda did too. The word "imma" should never be in a country song (and not just because it gives me horrible flashbacks to "I'm a Bee Imma Be").

Not surprised Dan + Shay are thriving in the Sam Hunt era of country radio. It's a shame "19 You + Me" was released 1 year too early (during the height of bro-country). If it were released in 2015, I think "19 You + Me" would easily be #1.

I thought that Dan + Shay made a huge mistake in releasing this song, so I'm pleasantly shocked to see it sitting just outside the top 5, and still climbing nicely. "Stop, Drop, + Roll" or "What You Do To Me" would both be amazing spring singles, so I really hope that they release one of them.

Who the hell has purple untied shoestrings? No one ever.

Who laughs at a stack of books? Someone who thinks you're taking weird courses, which I have witnessed.

Who the hell has purple untied shoestrings? No one ever. Who laughs at a stack of books? No one ever. Is it so out of the realm of possibility that they in fact witnessed each of these take place, because they are not that strange, and ultimately recalled them as descriptors in a song? Um, no. No it's not.

Who the hell has purple untied shoestrings? No one ever. Who laughs at a stack of books? No one ever. He's not literally laughing at the books, he's laughing/chuckling/slightly amused by the sight of a pretty girl who actually does not feel ashamed to read and act intelligent in public. This would be contrary to the portrayal of young beautiful women we see in media and hear described in songs, hence why I believe the narrator feels inclined to laugh about it. It's also a good line IMO because it gives the girl in this story much more personality, instead of some of the mindless country gals who dance and "Shake it" in other songs.

I will grant that it imbues personality, but to me it feels like that stereotypical "quirky" girl in a rom-con whom I'm pretty sure doesn't exist in real life. The whole song feels very rom-com-y to me.

What is so unrealistic about this girl? Cause let me tell ya, we exist Maybe it's just the way he sings the lines and/or phrases them. But this song has always had a contrived fakeness to me that I can't quite pinpoint. Again, it feels a lot like a bad rom-com to me somehow. Like, it's beating me over the head with "Oh, isn't it so CUTE and WACKY that you have PURPLE untied shoestrings?!?"

I don't think there is anything wrong with celebrating any woman's quirks. I'd much rather have a song such as this one that celebrates the non-"normal" aspects of a woman than one that demands nothing more of a woman than "shaking it" or "let me see you do it in the bed of my truck."
I'm not going to go into how much the worldview of how women should look and act is ridiculous, off-putting, and leads to all sorts of esteem issues, but the fact is women should be celebrated for ALL reasons, and if that means a dude likes her purple shoelaces and wants to celebrate that, it's fine with me.

I can't speak for everybody but a celebrating a woman's quirks is very relatable to me. I also think it would be something that women would fine genuine.

Nothing wrong with celebrating quirks per se. "Unusually Unusual" by Lonestar did it well. It's just the way that these ones are presented that makes me feel like they're going "Geddit? She's quirky! Laugh at her quirks! Aren't they so ADORABLE?!?" I just don't find this song in any way genuine. Like I said, it comes across as something out of a bad rom-com.

I rarely (if ever) heard this on The Highway for months, but the past 2-3 weeks, they've played it quite regularly. I'm guessing they were forced to add it to regular rotation since its become such a big hit. Same thing happened with "Buy Me A Boat"; The Highway totally ignored it until it reached the top 3-5 on the charts...then they added it...now its been the most played track the past week or two, lol.
