Music Sales:

With six debuts in the top ten, overall album sales are up 4% over last week and up 6% over the same week last year.

Year-to-date album sales are down less than 1% over the same period in 2014.

Physical CD sales are up 3% over last week, flat over the same week last year and down 5% year-to-date over 2014.

Digital album sales are up 5% over last week, up 8% over the same week last year and up 1% year-to-date over 2014.

Digital track sales are down 4% over last week, down 14% over the same week last year and down 12% year-to-date over 2014.

Track-equivalent album sales are up 1.6% over last week and down 4.4% year-to-date over 2014.

Fall Out Boy’s “American Beauty/American Psycho” debuts at number one on the Top Albums chart with 192,000 units sold. It is their third chart-topper to date and second straight, selling nearly 40,000 more copies than their last release, 2013’s “Save Rock And Roll,” in its first sales week.

“B4.Da.$$,” the debut album from Joey Bada$$, enters at No. 4 (and No. 1 R&B/Hip-Hop) with 54,000 units sold.

The Decemberists’ “What A Terrible World” enters at No. 5 with 50,000 units sold. It is their second top five album.

Marilyn Manson’s “The Pale Emperor” lands at No. 6 with 49,000 units sold. It is their highest chart peak since 2009’s “The High End Of The Low” reached No. 4. The “2015 Grammy Nominees” collection enters at No. 7 with 45,000 units sold. The 2014 edition of the series landed at No. 2 with 59,000 units sold last January.

Lupe Fiasco’s “Tetsuo & Youth” debuts at No. 9 with 39,000 units sold, his fourth top ten release.

Other new entries in the top 30 include Sleater-Kinney No. 13, Bjork No. 15, Belle & Sebastian No. 20, Vertical Church Band No. 21, Above & Beyond No. 22 and Ryan Bingham No. 29.

Country:

Sam Hunt’s “Montevallo” remains at No. 1 on the Country Albums chart for the second straight week, and third week overall. Blake Shelton’s “Bringing Back The Sunshine” leaps 11-4 with a 128% sales increase.

Notable Debuts:

Marilyn Manson, The Pale Emperor (Loma Vista) #6, 49,000 sold

This is about 12,0o0 more than his last album, Born Villain, sold back in 2012. Given the amount that album sales have fallen in general, this is really impressive. It doesn’t hurt that it’s his best album in years, and he’s riding a lot of positive press.

Enter Shikari, The Mindsweep (Hopeless) #60, 3,900 sold

They recently did the best cover of the Game of Thrones since this one.

Notable Sales:

AC/DC, Rock or Bust (Columbia) #26, 8,300 sold

This is starting to slow down a bit, but even with a 20% drop, it’s sold nearly 450,000 copies so far.

Foo Fighters, Sonic Highways (RCA) #54, 4,500 sold

One of the many reasons we back the Foos? Shouting out the new Venom album on their Facebook page this week.

Slipknot, .5: The Grey Chapter (Roadrunner) #75, 3,500 sold

This sells about the same as it did last week, and the tour with Lamb of God will help keep this going through the Summer.

In This Moment, Black Widow (Atlantic) #133, 2,200 sold

This has sold over 81,000 copies as of this week.

I Prevail, Heart Vs. Mind (Self-Released) #171, 1,600 sold

Another big drop for this metalcore band’s self-released EP, but most bands would kill to sell 12,000 copies of their music in three weeks.

The Pretty Reckless, Going To Hell (Razor & Tie) #170, 1,700 sold

This has sold almost 145,000 already, which is extremely impressive.

Seether, Isolate & Medicate (The Bicycle Music Company) #172, 1,650 sold

You can’t fight the Seether. God knows we’ve tried.

Godsmack, 1000hp (Universal Republic) #185, 1,500 sold

This crosses the 175,000 sold mark this week.

Billboard 200 Chart Moves: 'Grammy Nominees' Album Debuts in Top 20

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the week's most popular albums based on their overall consumption. That overall unit figure combines pure album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

Let's take a closer look at some of the action on the chart:

-- Various Artists, 2015 Grammy Nominees - No. 12 -- The compilation enters with 45,000 units (all from pure album sales). That's off a bit from the 59,000 copies that greeted the 2014 edition when it launched at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. The new album features contributions from current nominees like Taylor Swift, Beyonce, Coldplay and Pharrell Williams. If the 2015 Grammy Nominees set can reach the top 10, it will mark the 14th Grammy Nominees effort to do so. (Every one of the long-running compilations have hit the top 10 since 2007.)

-- Blake Shelton, Bringing Back the Sunshine - No. 35 -- The chart's tracking week (ending Jan. 25) included Shelton's double-duty turn on NBC's Saturday Night Live (Jan. 24) where he both performed and hosted. The album rises 53-35 with a 65 percent gain in units.

-- Calvin Harris, Motion - No. 45 -- Motion's top 50 rank is powered by SEA and TEA (comprising a hefty 81 percent of its units for the week). The title (which falls 37-45) does not appear on the 100-position Top Album Sales chart, which ranks the top-selling albums of the week.

-- Barbra Streisand, Partners - No. 71 -- Fans of Partners greatly prefer purchasing the full album instead of streaming the set: a tiny 0.013 percent of its units for the week are from SEA. Album sales equate to 98.34 percent.

-- Jason Aldean, Night Train - No. 90 -- Key titles in Aldean's catalog (including Night Train and My Kinda Party at No. 127) are sale priced in the iTunes Store for $5.99. Night is up 362 percent in download sales, while Kinda rises by 238 percent.

-- Leonard Cohen, Opus Collection – No. 177 -- The two-disc compilation is exclusive to Starbucks, and debuts with 4,000 units (all from pure album sales). The veteran artist brings his total of chart entries to 11, with seven of those since 2000.
