Anyway, I have to agree with you and Ten Pound Hammer that The Rose really isn't my cup of tea. Conway Twitty sounds lost in the song. It was during the time he was doing too many covers during the early 1980s. In order: 1. Rest Your Love On Me by the Bee Gees 2. Slow Hand by the Pointer Sisters-love the Twitty version and I sing it at work when the Pointers come on 3. The Rose by Bette Midler 4. Heartache Tonight by the Eagles-another one I sing 5. Three Times A Lady by the Commodores

I wanted to bump this thread. I spent a few hours the other day organizing and listening to my Conway Twitty collection. I have pretty much all his studio albums, resulting in 350+ songs. I was always a fan, but over time forgot how many GREAT songs he had. And even though his styles changed from the 60's, 70's 80' to 90's, he kept with the times and put out great music. The only other performer in country that can be that consistent is George Strait. Conway had that voice, that even if he was still alive putting out music, I think his singles would chart.
Top
1. Crazy In Love - fascinating my fav song of his, was his last big hit. Such a good song. 2. Hello Darlin' 3. I Don't Know A Thing About Love (The Moon Song) 4. The Legend and the Man (low charting song from mid-80s) 5. Fifteen Years Ago 6. I Can't Stop Loving You 7. Linda On My Mind 8. Lost In The Feeling (for longest time, thought the Mark Chesnutt song was THE original. Ohhhh young me) 9. Next In Line 10. Rest Your Love On Me 11. That's My Job 12. Goodbye Time 13. Touch The Hand
Not Some of My Favorites
1. As Soon As I Hang Up The Phone : there should be a warning, the phone ringing is so damn loud. Everytime comes on my ipod it hurts my ears. 2. Play, Guitar, Play 3. Redneckin Love Makin' Night - maybe his worst song ever. 4. Boogie Grass Band

Interesting that bjer127 mentioned "Crazy in Love." The same song has been recorded by Kim Carnes and also Kenny Rogers too. I wonder how people think of the three versions, any comments or favorites?
Generally, I prefer female voices, so my fav is Kim Carnes' version. Her rough growl made the song especially bittersweet. Rogers was too polished and too much synth. Conway was measured, thoughtful, and beautiful.

Never got around to doing this one. Other than "Hello Darlin'," my first introduction to Conway Twitty as a young boy was his last studio album Final Touches. "Two Timin' Two Stepper," "I Don't Love You," "The Likes of Me" (later covered by Marty Stuart), and the title track or songs I remember quite well. Anyways, here's my top/bottom for Conway:
Top: 1. That's My Job 2. She's Got A Single Thing In Mind 3. Linda On My Mind (besides it being my mom's name I also remember seeing George Strait cover it live) 4. I Don't Know A Thing About Love 5. I'd Just Love to Lay You Down 6. Slow Hand 7. Don't Call Him A Cowboy 8. Don't Take It Away 9. It's Only Make Believe 10. Don't It Make You Lonely
Bottom: 1. Happy Birthday Darlin' 2. You've Never Been This Far Before 3. Tight Fittin' Jeans

Anyone fans of Conway's EVEN NOW Album? I am listening to this album, can't find a bad song on it. Contains his final top 40 hit, She's Got A Man On Her Mind (#22 in 1991). That was a remake of the Curtis Wright song of 1989 (#38). Love the powerful message in Who Did They Think He Was.
