I always loved his old stuff (Bawitdaba/Only God Knows Why/Roll On), but this isn't bad at all. Better than his last two. "Johnny Cash" is a TREMENDOUS song, which could be a big hit down the road. I like the sound of this album.

Drinking Beer With Dad , First Kiss, Best Of Me ( which he wrote for George Jones), and One More Song are all stand outs from the album.

I've only listened through twice but nothing is really grabbing me so far. Rock's writing has always been spotty at best, but after a few listens , this albums lyrics seems quite a few pegs lower than usual & the melodies are generic. I'm gonna give it a few more listens and hope it grabs me since I bought it without sampling it first!

First Kiss, Jesus and Bocephus, and Johnny Cash are all stellar songs. This album is definitely a step up from his last effort.

Wow! I had no idea he still turned out those kind of numbers. Didn't hurt to have a well-timed, highly-viral story on Rolling Stone get the 'base' to go buy his latest record. He does what he does well and there's a market for that. His previous six albums for Atlantic (all of them since "Devil Without A Cause") have been certified Platinum with the "Rebel Soul" album being his lone Gold album. This record is his first since signing with Warner Bros. Records.

So did this album not chart on the country charts? It really seems like it should have. Would've easily spent at least a couple weeks at #1 on that chart if it had been classified as such.

So far, no confirmation if the Kid Rock CD would be placed on the country chart. If it did, I will edit my post to include its chart topping status.

Yeah , I was wondering the same thing. Its not like we are talking a traditional country record here but if Sam Hunt is considered "Country" and this isn't , the system is even more broken then I thought.

While I agree with your overall point, Kid Rock and his label would have had to market this album to country radio in order for Billboard to classify it as a country album (and I don't believe they did so). Some of the early reviews have called it a country-leaning album, but since country isn't KR's core format, I'm not surprised that it appears that Billboard isn't going to allow this to chart dually on the rock and country albums charts. Sam Hunt's music isn't country to me at all, but his music is marketed to country radio and he's signed to a Nashville-based label (MCA Nashville). Kid Rock is signed to Warner Bros. but not the Nashville division.

I think this will be classified as a "Rock Album" by Billboard, as with his previous two releases, "Born Free" and "Rebel Soul".

The updated Billboard website has Montevallo the #1 country CD. Had Kid Rock's First Kiss been listed, it would have been his first #1 on ANY country chart.

I'm surprised that the album nor any of the songs are being marketed to country radio. I think they could have some sucess if they did.

I'm surprised that the album nor any of the songs are being marketed to country radio. I think they could have some sucess if they did. I'm really surprised as well. When Kid Rock was still with Atlantic, he charted a number of songs on Billboard's country chart. "Picture" and "All Summer Long" were of course the only big hits, but songs like "Single Father", "Blue Jeans And A Rosary", "Born Free", "Collide", and "Care" all charted in the 50's on Billboard Country Airplay. My point is that, even though those songs weren't hits, they were at least getting sent to country radio by his label. Now he's signed with Warner Bros., and even though it isn't the Nashville division, Atlantic isn't a Nashville-based label either and they still released a few singles to country radio now and then (by partnering with Nashville-based labels for country radio promotion). So I'm surprised that Warner Bros. hasn't partnered up with Warner Music Nashville to push "First Kiss" to country radio. I've kept waiting and waiting for it to happen, but it still hasn't yet. "First Kiss" has gotten a few adds from country stations (notably WYCD in Detroit and WUBL in Atlanta), but it's not getting played enough to make it onto the chart. I'm pretty sure that, if it was actually sent out to country radio, then more stations would play it and it would chart, and I really do think that it could actually become a hit at country radio if they decide to send it out at some point..

All Summer Long re-enters the digital songs chart at #25 while Picture, his duet with Sheryl Crow re-enters at #40.
