J Records released Alicia's cover of Prince's "How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore" (retitled to "How Come You Don't Call Me") as the third single from her debut album, "Songs in a Minor." It didn't fair as well as the singles preceding it, only peaking at #59 on the Hot 100 and #30 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart. I always thought this was a bizarre single choice, not to mention, it doesn't touch Prince's version.

Definitely one of my least favorites from her debut but that just shows how strong of an album it is. I agree this is a weird single choice.

It's an okay cover, but I was never a fan of this as a single.

Very weird choice for a single. "Jane Doe" or "Goodbye" should have been the third single. I remembered when the label was testing this and "Jane Doe" at radio, for some reason this one won over it.

This was okay. Didn't like this was a single.

This came on shuffle yesterday and her vocals are DIVINE, but I agree it should've been the 4th or 5th single instead of the 3rd. I don't know if she can still sing like that TBH. It also adds evidence to my pile of enjoying Prince songs more when other people sing them (I Feel For You, Manic Monday, The Glamorous Life)

It was a solid cover. But I agree with the general consensus, why the hell was this a single?

Girlfriend or Jane Doe were the only right 3rd single picks in her debut
This is good but not singleworthy
