I don't think 1989 is going to sweep like many are predicting especially if Adele releases this year. Her best chance is Pop Album.
Jazmine Sillivan may be a sho-in for R&B album. That's the front runner so far.

1989 and "Uptown Funk" seem like obvious early frontrunners. Hozier and Meghan Trainor for Best New Artist.
Forthcoming albums from Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, Mumford & Sons, Kanye West, Drake, Florence + The Machine Possible forthcoming material from Adele, Bruno Mars, Frank Ocean, Katy Perry
The new Sam Smith/John Legend collaboration could easily get a Pop Duo/Group nomination. "Thinking Out Loud" seems like a good bet. "Love Me Like You Do" could be Ellie's first grace with the Grammys.
Best Rap Album could be really strong this year - Nicki Minaj, J Cole, Run the Jewels, Drake, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar...that's scary! Hell, even Big Sean's new album would be a worthy possible-nominee in a weaker year. R&B should be all about Jazmine Sullivan, D'Angelo, Mary J Blige and Tinashe so far. Miguel and Frank Ocean potentially coming out with new material. Rock & Alternative already looks strong with Sleater-Kinney, The Decemberists and Father John Misty. Muse, Modest Mouse, Alabama Shakes, Sufjan Stevens to come. Pop should have Rihanna, new Sia, possibly Adele, Florence + The Machine, Mark Ronson, possibly Katy Perry, Marina & The Diamonds (a girl can dream)

It's so crazy how they break the nominees down after almost a year of releases.
I don't even know where to start. Ms. Sullivan should/better/WILL be nominated.
Taylor is not going to get the Justin treatment - Grammy's won't let that happen.

I hope "1989" doesn't get miss out on AOTY like "Speak Now" did before. "Blank Space" should go in the major categories SOTY and ROTY. There is no one else to contend with Taylor this year. The show is in the bag. :)

But 4 of the last 5 Album of the Year winners (Beck, Sam Smith, Mumford & Sons, Arcade Fire) hadn't released their records at this point of the year. Moreso, look at Justin Timberlake in 2013 and Beyonce in 2014 as examples of mega-marquee names with huge-selling, critically acclaimed beasts of albums. They were looked at as absolute-sure-things and JT got snubbed from the General Field while Beyonce only got an AOTY nomination, which she (controversially) lost. I expect Taylor to be nominated for Album of the Year but I think a win is questionable, especially with there being a lot of competition still to come. She'll be in good shape though if her future singles continue to do well. Perhaps what hurt Justin & Beyonce was that their eras peaked too early in the year. Also keep in mind that U2 is the only artist in the last 25 years to win AOTY twice (I think?). That could be tested with Taylor, Mumford & Sons and Adele potentially in contention this year.

I think Swift is going to receive an onslaught of nominations this year. "Blank Space" for Record, Song, and Solo Pop Vocal, undoubtedly, assuming that they entire that over "Style" (which would be the smartest thing to do). 1989 will definitely get a nomination. I don't think there's any way around it. It's just too good and too big of an album, era, etc. to ignore in the biggest category. It'll also likely get a Pop Vocal Album nomination, stretching her nomination count to 5. If this Taylor Swift/Kanye West collaboration comes to fruition before the deadline, depending on how good it is, I could easily see that getting love in some areas, as well. I just think this is going to be a year where we see her face on the TV screen more than we ever have before, which would be a hard record to top...
Album of the Year Lock for a nomination: -1989, Taylor Swift Possible nominations and outside chances, ranging from what we have heard to what we haven't yet: -Wilder Mind, Mumford & Sons -If You're Reading This, It's Too Late, Drake -Piece By Piece, Kelly Clarkson -TBA, Adele -TBA, Kanye West -TBA, Kacey Musgraves -TBA, Florence + the Machine
Song/Record (I'm not separating the two yet) Lock for a nomination: -"Uptown Funk", Mark Ronson ft. Bruno Mars -"Blank Space", Taylor Swift Possible nominations and outside chances: -"Thinking Out Loud", Ed Sheeran (Not 100% sure if this is eligible, but if it isn't, they can just nominate a live version of it and call it good! *scoffs*) -"Believe", Mumford & Sons -"I'm Not The Only One", Sam Smith (is this eligible?) -"Love Me Like You Do", Ellie Goulding
Best New Artist Any of the following: -Meghan Trainor -Hozier -Ella Henderson -Tove Lo
I really just want to see "The Hanging Tree" get a nomination somewhere so Jennifer Lawrence can move one step closer to reaching EGOT status.

That's the front runner so far. 1989 will get something know doubt. The songs from that album sure are over-played on the radio enough. As far as Hozier,- "Take Me To Church" is a great song with some melancholy lyrics .. I am pegging this band as a one hit wonder though... Kind of like Passenger seemingly, so far anyway.

People are calling it a classic and it hasn't even been 24 hours yet.

What! Monday? :(
I'm happy as long 1989 gets a nom in AOTY, I'm 100000% sure that To Pimp A Butterfly will win, it's the best album in the last 5 years (MBDTF should had been/won the AOTY) 1989 will surely win Best Pop Album, but i'm not sure about BS winning ROTY and SOTY, maybe Uptown Funk wins ROTY and Blank Space SOTY, anyways, there's still songs than can be eventually nominated that we still have't hear. Also, the Bad Blood Remix might get a Nom if it becomes a hit, and Kendrick kills the verse And, maybe King Kunta is nom for the rap categories and win them New Artist, I'd say Hozier

Mumford & Son's album appears to be less of a contender than I expected. Maybe they'll have a hit and be a bigger threat.
I think Alabama Shakes could make a real dent this year.
Muse, Florence + The Machine, Kanye West, Rihanna, Frank Ocean, Miguel with expected albums in the next few months.

Mumford & Sons is a contender for AOTY regardless of its commercial success.

1989 will definitely get a nod in Album of The Year, but i don't think it will win. Just like Beyonce this year when everybody thought it would win. But Pop Album is in her bag i think. Also, Blank Space will get love in Record of The Year and Best Pop Song.

Mumford & Sons is a contender for AOTY regardless of its commercial success. I'm certainly not counting them out - they are Grammy darlings, commercial superstars and appeal to the older voters. But it definitely doesn't look like a slam dunk contender if sales are low and they don't get a crossover hit. We've seen Grammy favorites get dumped before so I don't think Mumford & Sons is immune. Taylor Swift, Arcade Fire, U2, Norah Jones, Santana - all recent AOTY winners that failed to grab an AOTY nod with a Grammy-friendly follow-up. I fully expect nominations across the rock categories and still consider them a contender but I wouldn't count them as an Album of the Year frontrunner, they way I see Taylor or possibly Kendrick. Then again, maybe that stellar longevity they showed with their first two albums will show up and all of this is moot.

If "Yoga" continues heating up and becomes a hit and then gets an award, I'm going to be a stormy mixture of ecstatic and pissed.
In other news, I can dream of Rebel Heart nominations, but M is above the Grammys. Same with Janet who I hope doesn't even drop the album until after the deadline.

I agree with most of the article but if "Honey, I'm Good" (which I love) or "The Hanging Tree" get a nom for Record of the Year I will s*it myself.

I'm wondering if The Weeknd can be a big contender this year. "I Can't Feel My Face" and the general presence of Max Martin could make it happen.
