This was a song from her 2012 album, "Unapologetic." It was produced by The-Dream and Carlos "L.O.S." McKninney and written by those two and Rihanna. The production on the "Love Without Tragedy" part is very similar to The Police's "Message in a Bottle," but they didn't officially sample it. This is EPIC. The first half of the song featured yet another set of lyrics that spoke about her incident with Chris Brown in such a creative way. It seems like they took certain things she's said in interviews and stuck them right in the song (ex. "Hearts racing out of control, and you knew that I couldn't let it go.") She's stated that the altercation with him started because she found inappropriate text messages with another girl on his phone, and when she wouldn't drop it, things got heated. There are also some double entendres that are just uncomfortable/troubling to hear (ex. "Felt like love struck me in the night, I pray that love don't strike twice"), but those instances were all through "Unapologetic." I do like the "Mother Mary" part, but it goes on for about two minutes too long. Plus, I'm curious as to what a full version of "Love Without Tragedy" would have sounded like. But all in all, this is an excellent song.

The production is outstanding and so are the lyrics.

I love this song! It's so 80s. This is one of my favorite songs that she has ever done. She sounds so vulnerable on "Mother Mary." Within the context of "Nobody's Business" preceding it and then "Get It Over With" following it, it almost felt like this was a cry for help. The trilogy of those 3 songs summed up how messy and turbulent her life was at that particular time.

This was one of my favorites on that album, but I wish they were two separate songs. I really wanted a longer version of "Love Without Tragedy".

Love that it had The Police influence.

Definitely my favorite on the album even though it's not single material. It was a nice change for Rihanna though.
