Her book is #1 on the New York Times Best Seller List: while the other girls need music or acting to be successful, all she needs is to simply live life and talk about it. She literally gets to sit back and rake in millions because of her personality and life, which is what is selling her empire. Successica indeed.

I was a fan before the book and a (thankfully!) former pastor's kid, so I may be biased but damn this is one of my fave books ever and I don't have a ton I LOOOOVE... So heartbreaking, funny, real and sadly relatable...
I cannot believe that The Price of Fame is 10 years old... that was an amazing series as well...
The new music is really good My top 3 are Party of One Practice What You Preach Sweet Temptation

Honestly so happy for her... this book and the music is EXCELLENT!
She has always made amazing music (not a big fan of Do You Know though!)

Why did it take me 14 years to discover how good her “A Public Affair” album is? Whew.

Love that album. My favorite of hers, and one of my all-time Top 20.
I was browsing YouTube earlier and I came across a newer cut trailer for Blonde Ambition?

I Was listening to the Do You Know album today and was reminded how good the title track is. Great songwriting by Dolly and incredible vocals by both ladies. Probably my favorite Jessica Simpson song.

Wow, Jessica is the first of the late 90s/early 00s Pop Princess to hit 40 years young. :o Now I feel ancient, lmao. Jessica was vocally underrated I thought. On her first two albums, anyway. She slowly began to change her style of singing and started doing truly bizarre things with her voice by the time that she launched her third and most commercially successful album to date. She had a lot of potential on her debut and follow-up efforts, though. Her label just had no idea how to manage her, or what they wanted her to sound like. Their entire marketing strategy with her seemed to only be geared toward molding a pop star comparable to Britney & Christina that would be able to compete in the same arena as them. Unfortunately, that just reinforced the fact that everything Jessica was doing had already been done before by the other two, which only made her look like a carbon-copy and a try-hard. Her career was so mismanaged, it's honestly a shame. She could have been a great vocalist.

I'm not sure what she does with all her time now. Like I know she has her other endeavors but she doesn't really seem to be in the public eye much anymore. I really want to her release a full album.

I feel like Jessica has been teasing new music on a wide-scale release level for at least half a decade now? I know she has the songs that she put in her audiobook, but I'd be interested to hear an actual, full-on concept album from her, with major production. I wish she had used this time in quarantine to maybe post some videos of her singing at home, as many other singers have done. It would have been a great way for her to re-establish the bond she had with her fans through music, in a very intimate fashion. Her fans have been asking for new music for years. She said that she's always writing songs in her diary, and she could have taken the opportunity during the quarantine to share some of those songs with the fans. Also, maybe take some requests on her older hits.

I was like 7 when "I Wanna Love You Forever" first came out, and she was what, 18-19? I watch the video back now and she LITERALLY looks 12 lmao. Time really is the ultimate mind**** lol.

That hot sheet is hilarious! The tuna can... is everything!
I liked Public Affair and I Think I'm in Love With You (shes a very good vocalist) but are they doing hot sheets on literally everyone now. All Time Artist= N/A.
I just got a few giggles from it.
She has WAY more money than Britney, Mandy, Xtina and all the other girls from that time though.

I remember hearing that song on the radio during the summer time back then.

I get the sense that Jessica may have been slightly traumatized by her years in the music industry, and that it's a juncture in her life that she just doesn't care to revisit at this point. I thought this even before she released her memoir, and it was just further reinforced and solidified upon learning about the inner turmoil that she was dealing with the whole entire time. She pretty much embarked on a whole new chapter in her life after leaving the industry, too - getting re-married, having kids, and establishing a very successful brand for herself, but without all of the added stress, pressures, and other baggage that came with the territory of being an entertainer. I do believe that she had a genuine love and passion for singing when she first started, but the competitive nature of the industry coupled with her low self-esteem and micromanagement by a label that didn't allow her to play to her strengths and capitalize on her actual talent may have completely taken the joy out of it for her. Not to mention, she probably associates her time in the music business with her past mental and emotional trauma, since that's when it all came to a head. In addition, she had a highly publicized divorce from someone that she met and fell in love with upon making her start in the industry, then subsequently entered a series of toxic relationships that brought about even more public embarrassment; and then, to add insult to injury, she was body-shamed and bullied so harshly and so extensively that it even caught the attention of the U.S. President at the time. All things considered, it's no wonder that she decided to peace out from the entertainment industry. :(

I listened to "I Think I'm In Love With You" the other day. Glad I did! It's such a cute song. I'd love for her to come back with just squeaky pop, tailor-made for radio. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but something that's feel good along the same lines as ITIILWY.

Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but something that's feel good along the same lines as ITIILWY. Her vocals were no joke on that album period, tbh. This video is a nice showcase of how clear and open her voice was back then. She was such a soprano, the way she phrased 5th octave notes like they were nothing. Then, of course, that beautiful high soprano E(6) she glissed up to in the gospel-like track. She could have been even better if her technique was healthier. Instead, it actually got worse and worse from that point forward. Her vocals on "Irresistible" were just as good, but with a more mature sound imo - especially on the ballads. "In This Skin" marked the beginning of her new odd vocal stylings that became increasingly more strange with each subsequent release.

I was watching this video yesterday. Poor Jess just couldn't catch a break. It's like she was always placed in the middle.
She got intimidated when Xtina had auditioned before her and got the part in the Mickey Mouse Club. Britney came right after Jess and also got the part. Fast forward to their solo careers, Jess had auditioned for Jive Records, but Jive turned her down since they already had Britney. Jess tried out for RCA Records and also got turned down since they got Xtina. When she had finally landed a record deal with Sony, it honestly wasn't any better. Tommy Mottola tried to mold her into another Britney/Mariah. It's really tough to make it in the music industry without have any insurmountable pressures and competition. I really feel for her.

I wonder if she’ll put her new songs on a streaming service or if they’ll always be an audiobook exclusive.
It’s almost time to take out her holiday albums!

I know it’s probably not the lane she’d want to record in as an artist anymore, but I would love something with “A Public Affair” vibe from her again. It’s wishful thinking, but the fun ‘80s dance cuts fit her like a glove.
She’ll continue to serve us country-lite balladry if she keeps recording, though.

I don't really care what kind of music she gives us because she has done a variety of genres. I just want a new album. That's all the I ask.

She mentioned music on her GMA interview...
That EP was so so so good, I'm so excited for a HOPEFULLY full on album!
(Also, if anyone hasn't gotten the book, I got the Audiobook when it came out and it is SO worth it!)
