Section.80 is a great album. Too bad it's sold less than Paris Hilton's debut. Let that sink in. Paris' album sold almost that much in its first week alone. Anyway, since you brought it up, Paris is a fantastic album, and it deserved to do well.

Those are some great numbers for Marina! Never thought that she would snatch a top 10 album after Electra Heart didn't live up to expectations.

This album is getting rave reviews and will easily outsell his last album. Not so sure about that!!

Anyway, since you brought it up, Paris is a fantastic album, and it deserved to do well. I was a fan of the album as well but lyrically/artistically it doesn't touch Section.80. I guess I'm just surprised the album hasn't even reached 100k yet.

Wonder which album will take a bigger fall this week Empire or Madonna... Empire is still holding well a week after on ITunes currently # 2 on the Main Chart. Hoping for good 2nd week numbers for them !!!

^I would think Empire will have the better hold. I think that soundtracks, in general, don't usually drop as much as single-artist albums.

I honestly expected more for Kendrick. Still great numbers, but I was thinking he could pull 700K. Something needs to change to get digital to pull even higher numbers for these artists. If it was a traditional release with digital with physical out on the same day AND on the scheduled day. it would have done much better. HITS estimated 400-600k last fall for Kendrick. He could end up with 400k and good 2nd week numbers, I would think. This album is getting rave reviews and will easily outsell his last album. Some good, valid points here, but I don't think it's fair to completely dismiss the marketing BENEFIT of the unexpected/early release. That sort of deal creates buzz and attention that a traditional launch can't. I do agree that week two is important. Retention will tell us a lot about a) the impact of the great reviews and b) whether the unusual launch actually hurt performance.

Section.80 is a great album. Too bad it's sold less than Paris Hilton's debut. Let that sink in. That's the most random comparison I've ever seen. Why on earth would you randomly pull her album out and compare it to Kendrick? LOL

hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=295186 YOUR TOP 15: BUTTERFLY COLLECTINGKendrick to Have Year's 10th Six-Figure-Plus Bow Kendrick Lamar will top next week's albums and SPS charts with the year's second-largest debut, behind only Drake. This will be the 10th album this year to debut over 100k. By this time last year, only four albums had hit six figures. Here's how it looks in Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) and albums as we head into the weekend: *Kendrick Lamar (TDE/Aftermath/Interscope) 340-365k SPS (300-325k albums) Empire ST (Twentieth Century Fox/Columbia) 80-85k SPS (60-65k albums) *Modest Mouse (Epic) 65-70k SPS (60-65k albums) Fifty Shades of Grey (Republic) 60-65k SPS (25-28k albums) Drake (YMCMB/Republic) 50-55k SPS (24-27k albums) Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 50-55k SPS (30-35k albums) Ed Sheeran (Atlantic) 50-55k SPS (25-28k albums) *Marina and the Diamonds (Atlantic) 45-50k SPS (40-45k albums) Sam Smith (Capitol) 45-50k SPS (23-26k albums) Maroon 5 (222/Interscope) 40-45k SPS (13-16k albums) Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville) 40-45k SPS (30-35k albums) *Sleeping With Sirens (Epitaph) 40-45k SPS (35-40k albums) Meghan Trainor (Epic) 35-40k SPS (21-24k albums) *Mark Knopfler (Verve) 35-40k SPS (35-40k albums) Big Sean (G.O.O.D./Def Jam) 30-35k SPS (17-20k albums) *Passion (sixstepsrecords) 28-32k SPS (28-32k albums) *Debuts

As long as the second-week sales decline isn't as large, percentage-wise, as MDNA. The album's currently No. 18 on iTunes (it had dropped as low as 24 or so). Other than Kendrick Lamar's release, album sales are rather depressing.

And HITS forgot:
AWOLNATION (Red Bull) 35-40k SPS (30-35k albums)

Not bad for Kendrick Lamar, Modest Mouse and Marina and The Diamonds, expected more for AWOLNATION and Sleeping With Sirens. Also, I can't wait to see Passion's drop next week considering their last two albums had HUGE second week drops (not that I'm complaining)

This SPS is killing her Rebel Heart. Even just with pure sales, there's a pretty good chance she's going to be out of the Top 10.

Yeah, but Maroon 5 is in the top 10 or 15, and their pure sales are just 13-15k, so who knows. SPS makes a huge difference for some of the albums.

It takes 28-32K for SPS, which they are saying Madonna will be under that for the top 15. It ony takes 25-28K to be top 10 sales. 25K would be a 79% drop. So it is possible that although out of the top 15 on the main chart that sales-wise, this will be at the bottom of the top 10 or just outside it.

www.billboard.com/biz/articles/6509348/modest-mouse-set-for-top-five-debut-on-billboard-200Modest Mouse Set For Top Five Debut on Billboard 200By Keith Caulfield | March 20, 2015 5:44 PM EDT Rock band Modest Mouse is aiming for its second top 10 album on the Billboard 200 chart with Strangers To Ourselves. Industry forecasters say the new set, which was released on March 17 through Epic Records, may move around 65,000 in album equivalent units by the end of the tracking week on March 22. That should be a large enough total to secure the album a top five launch on next week's Billboard 200. Ahead of it will likely be Kendrick Lamar's early release To Pimp a Butterfly, which should fly in at No. 1 with over 330,000 units. It would mark the rapper's his first No. 1 album. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Billboard 200's top 10 will be revealed on Wednesday, March 25. Modest Mouse's last studio album, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. It sold 129,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen Music. After Lamar and Modest Mouse, watch for Marina and the Diamonds' Froot to possibly start in the top 10. It might launch with around 45,000 units. It will mark the first top 10 set for the act, which previously peaked at No. 31 with 2012's Electra Heart.

question, will Kendrick's new album have a hit song? I really want this album to at least have a couple of major hits, I know "i" charted, but will there be any songs that do as well as the ones off of "Good Kid, m.a.a.d. City"?

Someone like Madonna is going to have a fast fall. At this point, who outside of her fan base cares enough to buy a Madonna album without any hit songs? People keep flipping out like she's actually still relevant when she's not.

The only other song that has a chance is "Alright".....and even that is a bit of a stretch. If it does take off I can only see it sneaking into the Urban Top 20 at best They definitely weren't aiming for commercial success with this album. Kendrick is pretty much the Nas to Drake's Jay-Z at this point....or maybe the Lupe to Drake's Wayne....either way, I'm sure you get the point

Meghan is holding up well and will hopefully continuing selling with her new single taking off and potential viral video and an iHeart Radio Awards performance next weekend.
