Madonna with dual appearances in the 1985 top 5. And, of course, let's not forget she had a big smash that year ("Into the Groove") that Billboard didn't even chart on the Hot 100- one that had top 10 airplay and big 12-inch sales (600,000+), that is her biggest recurrent airplay hit in the USA. Radio stations were so hot to play it, without any push from WB/Sire, that they recorded it off MTV and played that recording until the release of the 12-inch single.  |

Labels are so focused on direct revenue that they often lose sight of the bigger picture. Ellie scoring a #1 on the Hot 100 could do wonders for her career and, as a result, wonders for Interscope when launching her next album campaign. She's still not established enough where radio treats her like an automatic add ("Anything Can Happen" was a disaster). If I were Interscope I'd allow her to perform the song; why turn down free promo for one the artists on your roster? Is this speculation or has EG indicated she wants to hit the circuit to promote it? I'm not sure why Interscope would prevent her from performing it. After all, they did allow her to record it for the ST and that seems like a bigger deal. I was just speculating, I have no idea. LMLYD is a joint Republic/Interscope release, and obviously we have no way to knowing what the exact terms of her appearance on the soundtrack were, but I'm sure Republic didnt give away the farm just to get her on the record. Ellie didn't write the song, so they could have offered it to anybody, and who knows if Ellie was even their first choice. I agree that Interscope stopping Ellie from performing the song wouldn't be smart, but if they're not getting much of a cut from the track anyway, they're not going to push hard to get her on shows just to make money for Republic. You'd think with the slight underperformance of "Burn" in the US, they'd take advantage of this 'gift.' Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk!," featuring Bruno Mars, leads the Billboard Hot 100 for a 12th week, while Flo Rida's "G.D.F.R." enters the top 10, marking the Sunshine State rapper's first top 10 in more than two years As we do each Wednesday, let's run down all the songs riding up and down the top 10 of the sales/airplay/streaming-based Hot 100. "Funk!," released on RCA Records, becomes just the 15th No. 1 in the Hot 100's five-and-a-half-decade history to rule for at least 12 weeks. It also ties for the longest reign of the 2010s: Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines," featuring T.I. and Pharrell, also logged a 12-week command beginning in June 2013. "Funk" inks a 12th week atop the Digital Songs chart with 187,000 downloads sold (down 1 percent) in the week ending March 22, according to Nielsen Music. It's now within one week of tying the record for the most time spent atop Digital Songs: the T-Pain-assisted "Low" by Flo Rida (more on his new top 10 coming up …) led for a record 13 weeks in 2007-08. "Funk" leads the subscription services-based On-Demand Songs chart (4.6 million U.S. streams, down 6 percent) for an 11th week and Streaming Songs (19.1 million, up 13 percent) for a 10th, adding top Streaming Gainer honors on the Hot 100. So the only song still increasing to complete with Uptown Funk is Earned It, 4FS, Trap Queen and GDFR.. If Sugar doesn't start steady fit for the next 2-5 weeks, one of those songs will (most likely) be number one...
