AllAccess doesn't list any starters for this but I'm not really sure why they (AllAccess) don't seem to list all the spins all the time (I've seen this happen with tons of songs). I know for a fact that this song has been spun a couple of times on KNIX already. I heard it twice yesterday and one of the DJ's was talking about how the song had shot to #1 on iTunes and therefore they just had to play it.

Sometimes if you click the "get report" tab two or three times, it may pop up, but that only tends to work with station playlists and such, not with clicking on individual songs looking for starters. I do know it debuted at #84 on MB last week with 46 spins and 298k in total audience.

I really like this. I just bought it. Perfect summer song.
He sounds little like Eric Church in spots but overall this is a solid song for summer. Hopefully he can get some promotion behind it. Does anyone know who wrote it?

Does anyone know who wrote it? MR According to Rolling Stone, Chris wrote it with Chris DuBois. I really like this one too. If he signs with another label soon, I could see this being a pretty big hit. As I said in the News/Non-Singles thread, I'm pretty surprised that another label didn't scoop him up after Bigger Picture closed shop. He may not have had much success on the radio yet, but he's built up a pretty solid fan-base due to his rigorous touring schedule.

This is a really good song, and it's different sounding from the rest of radio. The Eric Church comparisons are pretty accurate, and I'd throw Kip Moore out there too. This song is too good to not get airplay, so I hope he does sign to a label soon.

This is the best Brad Paisley songs I've heard in a few singles.
I'm not the biggest Bobby Bones fan but I do love that he sticks his neck out there musically and give stuff he loves a shot. i.e.. this song, Cam & even Girl Crush by LBT

This has been the most streamed country song on Play Mpe the past two days. If this exposure continues, Chris will get a label supporting him sooner or later.

This has been the most streamed country song on Play Mpe the past two days. If this exposure continues, Chris will get a label supporting him sooner or later. Given how he's been burned by labels in the past due to restructure/closure, look for Chris to be a bit methodical. They only put it on MPe so radio who wanted it could get it easier. They'll likely lean on SXM AirPlay until then to pick the right label partner, similar to FGL, Old Dominion, etc. Chris will also be looking to have a label who is ready to Go with the single, which means he will need someone with room and resources to promote him ASAP, again, like FGL. This is slightly different than that situation but there definitely are parallels. Producers are, fwiw, Janson, Dubois and Brent Anderson.

Ever since I first saw him as an opener a few years back, I've thought Chris is very talented. I don't like this song at all, nor his vocals on it such as they are.
If it does well despite my personal opinion lol, good for him though. I was surprised but pleased to see him popping up on the radar this month with some favorable visibility and results.

I bought this as well on first listen. Chris is a very likeable and relatable guy, doesn't seem to try too hard. I really enjoyed "Better I Dont", and the 2 EP's he put out last year were good. I've never seen him live, but heard his shows are fantastic.
I really dig the harmonica too, it gives his songs something that modern country songs don't have. I hope a label like Stoney Creek or Red Bow sign him, as I think those labels would really let him put out music he wants to do (like what Bigger Picture would have done most likely).

I really like this. I found out about it on Saving Country Music & Trigger just ripped it to shreds & basically called it Bro-Country. Theres nothing bro about this as far as I'm concerned . The music sounds a bit mechanical to me but its a country melody. I was honestly expecting something along the lines of "Donkey" after reading his rant. I too , purchased it immediately.

The harmonica is one of Chris' trademarks actually - he incorporates it in quite a few of his songs. "Corn" off his last EP was probably the biggest example.

I'm guessing to Trigger that Chris wrote "Truck Yeah" so anything he writes is "Bro country." But then again, I don't think 2/3 or 3/4 of what gets labelled "Bro" is actually "Bro." This is why I can't stand that site. To them EVERYTHING is party country (your "bro"). Plenty of people there (not Trigger) who comment seem to think "Real Country" (honky tonk or outlaw eras) is the only true country sound. Those are very hard people to please. I love virtually all sounds of country and have always thought lyrics were the driving factor more than the sound (Though certainly steel guitars and fiddles helped identify a country song).

I feel the exact same way. I listened to the song before I saw Trigger's review, and I really liked the song, but then when I read Trigger's review I was just really surprised that he ripped into it like that. It seemed like he was just venting about bro-country and Bobby Bones and Nashville in general and this song was just sort of the one he picked to pour all his frustration out on. To be fair, I do agree with a lot of what Trigger writes--that Nashville is too corporate and that far too many songs these days are assembly-line songwriting-by-committee conglomerate radio fluff--but I completely disagree with him about "Buy Me A Boat". I don't think this is a masterpiece or anything like that but it's pretty funny and I definitely downloaded it as well. I'd love to see Chris get scooped up by a label that can turn this into a hit.

This song is right in Chris' wheelhouse. To me it fits right along with the rest of his material. Personally I liked "Cut Me Some Slack" better, but if this can find a label home I'd be thrilled.

Yeah , I suspect the Bobby Bones slant in this songs initial success is what set him off. I really , really , really dislike Bones as well , but it seems kind of childish and unprofessional to go after a song & artist like he did just because of Bones. I agree with Trigger on a lot of issues and generally enjoy his page (even though he kinda sorta threatened to sue me once) , but sometimes he comes off arrogant & frankly ridiculous.

Yeah, "Cut Me Some Slack" was great. I loved both that one and "Better I Don't". Even his one BNA single, "'Til A Woman Comes Along", was pretty good.

I usually like this style of country and I do appreciate the darker sound to this song, but otherwise, I'm a bit underwhelmed. It's a nice enough listen, but nothing I'd really go out of my way to hear. The only other song by him I know is "Better I Don't" and this is definitely way better than that one. I listened to "Cut Me Some Slack" but didn't really care for it. "Til A Woman Comes Along" is great though. Easily his best song and the only one I truly enjoy. Not a big fan of his vocals, but I can listen to him if I like the song.

There will be a music video shot for "Buy Me A Boat" and get this... CMT is going to fund it. A first for the network. This endeavor will yield the music video for Chris Janson’s summer anthem, “Buy Me a Boat,” and includes plans to add the video in heavy rotation. The single shot to No. 1 on iTunes’ Country Songs Chart last month after being featured on the nationally syndicated Bobby Bones Show. “Music discovery and connecting independent artists with fans is one of our core tenants,” said Leslie Fram, SVP of Music Strategy for CMT. “We’re thrilled that Chris’ talents are being recognized and CMT can bring this song to life in a music video.” Although unsigned and independent, Janson has earned opening slots for Florida Georgia Line, Merle Haggard, Hank Williams Jr., as well as over 60 appearances at the Grand Ole Opry. His prior songwriting credits include Tim McGraw’s “Truck Yeah.” CMT, a champion of music discovery, also announced last week its first-ever Next Women of Country Tour. Meanwhile, franchises including “CMT Listen Up” and “Live @ CMT” continue to serve as a place where unsigned, indie and emerging acts can connect with new fans. Music Row

Woah! A record deal and OTV all in one fail swoop. I'm super excited for Chris, even if I don't like OTV, this is best case scenario for that program. Everyone in town seems to understand the talent this kid possesses (it's not often a guy with no hits gets signed 3 times), and with the exposure from OTV I could definitely see this being a huge seller and a potential #1 in the making. Now we just need to get Greg Bates signed...

Not only did Chris get another record deal because of this song; he signed with a powerhouse like Warner Music; and not only did he sign a deal, with a major label, he got selected as the OTV artist with his song "Buy Me A Boat"...talk about a hole in one. :o There hasn't been a single (or song really) I haven't liked from Chris all the way back to "Til A Woman Comes Along" and this guy deserves another record deal and all I can say is thank God for "Buy Me A Boat."

Sorry to double post but the "On The Verge" program with "Buy Me A Boat" will start on May 4th.
From Music Row:
Singer-songwriter Chris Janson has inked a recording contract with Warner Bros. Records through Warner Music Nashville. The Missouri native joins a label roster that includes artists Blake Shelton, Hunter Hayes, Brett Eldredge, Ashley Monroe, and more.
Janson recently notched a No. 1 on the iTunes country chart with his independent single “Buy Me A Boat,” after iHeartMedia radio talent Bobby Bones played the song on his morning show, which is aired on more than 80 radio stations. He has also partnered with CMT for the song’s music video
Williams, Jr. Janson co-wrote Tim McGraw’s single “Truck Yeah.”
“Artistry, passion and hard work are the driving force here at Warner Music Nashville and Chris Janson exemplifies those very qualities,” said WMN President and CEO John Esposito. “The guy played 16 hours a day at Tootsie’s for a year and he’s played the Opry almost a hundred times. Man, that’s dedication and playing for the love of the music. Our VP of A&R Cris Lacy has been championing and following his decade-long path in Nashville and we’re ecstatic to welcome such a unique talent to the WMN family.”
“I knew from the first meeting in Espo’s office with this team, that Warner Bros. is where I was going to be and I appreciated the passion and love that I felt from the building,” said Janson. “I couldn’t be any more excited, and genuinely thankful for the opportunity. I’m looking forward to a long career with Warner.”
iHeartMedia has now added Janson to its “On The Verge Artist” program. Through the program, “Buy Me A Boat” will air on 140 country radio stations for six weeks, beginning May 4. The program includes on-air exposure and significant digital and social support across iHeartMedia’s network.
“As soon as our country music programmers heard Chris Janson’s music, we knew he would be perfect for our ‘On The Verge Artist’ program,” said Clay Hunnicutt, Executive Vice President and General Manager of National Programming Platforms for iHeartMedia. “Discovering breakthrough artists like Janson and connecting them to new fans nationwide is what the ‘On The Verge Artist’ program is all about, and we know our country radio listeners will agree.”

Add me to the list of posters impressed with this guy getting three separate record deals in a fairly short time period with out ever having any major success as an artist (I chose to try to ignore he co-wrote "Truck Yeah") . Hopefully he get enough traction to finally release a full length album.

Wow great news because this is a fantastic song and it's lyrically different from anything else on radio. I really hope this takes off with the OTV selection, they couldn't have made a better choice IMO.
