Haven't heard this song yet, and I don't honestly remember any of his previous material either, but I am glad that the OTV selection seems to make sense this time. Sometimes it just seems like we wind up with some random song like "Kiss You in the Morning" that doesn't really strike a chord with people, but "Buy Me a Boat" has clearly resonated with the public already and the selection strikes me as a good choice.

I don't think this one will be too great a seller, and I definitely don't see this as a future #1 single. Bobby Bones helped to manufacture a strong start on iTunes and this probably contributed to the OTV selection, but this just doesn't strike me as something that's going to click with too many listeners on its own. (I may be a bit biased since I really dislike this one, but for what it's worth I didn't think "Take It on Back" or "Kiss You in the Morning" would do well on iTunes and both ended up under-performing sales-wise.) I would have much preferred Old Dominion to receive the On the Verge treatment next, since their single "Break Up with Him" has gotten months of XM radio exposure and has been in the top 400 on the iTunes chart for quite some time.

I LOVE Old Dominion's music but their song had way, way more exposure and had less sales in a singular week than "Buy Me A Boat" did from that one day of spins on the Bobby Bones show. I don't how you can see this not being a big seller. Everything about this song screams big seller to me. Strong production, easy to sing-a-long to and summery tempo. There's simply no way this one isn't a massive hit (radio was willing to play it based on how much they LIKE Chris too). OTV was gonna happen w/o a label too.

Only heard the iTunes clip of this (wasn't overly impressed from that) but I echo the sentiments of others that this selection makes a lot of sense. I could also see this being the biggest OTV hit outside of "Leave the Night On".

I agree with rsmatto here. While I don't see "Buy Me A Boat' selling like let's say "Take Your Time", "Homegrown" or the way "Sangria" is, I think it will sell better than both "Take It On Back" and "Kiss You In The Morning." Both of those made little business sense in terms of what would have been a big seller, especially Micheal's as it just lacks any sort of uniqueness in melody, production or vocals to set it apart and the fact it's really starting to hit a snag with it's airplay isn't surprising (though I don't think Warner is near finished pushing that one, much like Red Bow wasn't near done pushing "Take It On Back"). This song debuting at #1 on iTunes, even with exposure on a syndicated radio show just doesn't usually happen, especially from an artist who is largely unknown to most fans. "Break Up With Him' reaches millions of fans on a daily basis and has since last summer, so it's really not fair to compare the two (they also play that song as much as or more than some recent top 10 singles). I don't know if this will reach #1 but I do know this was actually a decision that for once makes some sense with the execs at iHeartMedia. They can talk all they like about using "gut feels" when making these selections, but there's some cost vs. reward analysis going on in a case like this where you have a song that has shown with one day exposure, that it can connect with the listener. Personally I would love to just hit the reset button and be rid of this program all together but this sort of selection actually makes it usable for what it says it aims to do - not just some shot in the dark pick like "Kiss You In The Morning" (safe, vanilla, not passionate).

Wow, the news today was a big surprise. I figured it was only a matter of time 'til Chris got signed by a label, but I didn't think it'd happen this soon. And Warner Music Nashville? That's awesome--good for Chris.
I really like this song too, and with OTV it should be top 30 by the end of May already...perfect for it to really start taking off over the summer. I don't think this song is any sort of masterpiece but it's just a really fun song and it actually sounds country, too. I've loved pretty much everything I've heard from Chris and I know he works his tail off so after some bad luck at Sony (he got the shaft when Galante stepped down) and then at Bigger Picture Group (they closed up shop), it's great to see Chris go to such a big and powerful label.
I agree with others...now if only Greg Bates could get signed somehow. I'm also hoping Warner Bros. will (re)release Ryan Kinder's "Kiss Me When I'm Down" soon...

This is gonna be a huge hit. Its a great, fun song for the summer. Even if this wasn't getting the OTV treatment, I think this would have become a hit from Chris.

The official adds date for this one is May 11, but it sounds like it'll start getting OTV airplay beginning May 4. I could see it being more or less an iHeartRadio exclusive for that first full week of May. gfa.radioandrecords.com/publishGFA/GFANextPage.asp?sDate=05/11/2015&Format=4Chris has been assigned to the WAR promo team. WAR is also handling singles for Frankie Ballard, Gloriana, Jana Kramer, and Dan + Shay.

Don't get me wrong, any of them would be fantastic for any artist but that specific promo team really has some mojo working right now at radio (though this will be getting the OTV treatment, so that makes me happy for future singles).

Guessing this could actually be the most added because of the OTV treatment....

Guessing this could actually be the most added because of the OTV treatment.... "Buy Me A Boat" got 35 adds today. There wasn't mention of it being most added but I'm assuming so since Brett already got 44 adds last week and Darius would be the only other competition. The single technically goes for adds next Monday but with the OTV starting today, this is when it'll start making an impact. We'll know the full list later this afternoon.

I just can't seem to find where they are posting that info. Any ideas??

Usually they don't have quotes like that in regards to the most added news story, so I just assumed that what showed up on the news home page was it. I knew it was most added though since that's the only one they listed in the news section (they wouldn't just post Chris' if there was another song that got more adds, lol). Thanks for the heads up though kanimal.

From Country Aircheck: Warner Bros./WMN's Chris Janson has been added to the Toby Keith Good Times & Pick Up Lines Tour for select dates. Janson joins supporting acts Eli Young Band and Colt Ford. Tour schedule here.

"Buy Me A Boat" makes its debut inside the MB top 50 on the rolling chart today (#48), with 739 spins and 4.5 million in audience. Chris should easily reach the MB top 40 by week's end. It's also selling well to start (at least its chart debut) as it's currently at #112 on the all-genre chart.

I'm usually curious when people say the song won't sell. This is not a "Kiss Me In The Morning" or "Take It On Back" moment (though that song too broke the Top 30 digital list this week). Even if it doesn't go Top 10 (which I think it will), "Buy Me A Boat" will likely end up selling close to if not more than Gold (a la "God Made Girls").

I see this being a big #1 hit, and easily going Gold if not Platinum. It's exploding on iTunes faster than almost any other OTV selection has before. This is the 2nd time now that it's absolutely exploded on iTunes immediately after people have been exposed to it (the first time was of course after Bobby Bones played it). As of this morning, "Buy Me A Boat" was #73 all-genre on iTunes, an increase of 40 positions from just 2 days ago. I mean, it's already ahead of songs like "Raise 'Em Up", "Say You Do", "Little Toy Guns", "Baby Be My Love Song", "Wild Child", "Diamond Rings & Old Barstools", "Drinking Class", "She Don't Love You", and "Games", and it's looking likely that Chris will blow right past Thomas Rhett's "Crash And Burn" as well.
It looks like it's going to surge all the way into the top 30 on Monday's Billboard chart, already blasting ahead of singles from Reba, Kip Moore, Chase Rice, etc.

This is great. Gritty southern voice. Simple song that's not about girls or parties.
Who doesn't love boats?
To me, this sounds like early Craig Campbell or Chris Cagle. Great selection from OTV after an absolute stinker.

Right now, I'd say that "Buy Me A Boat" will debut at #37 or #36 on MB this week.

Enjoy this song. Very easy to relate to. Much preferred "Better I don't" and "Cut me Some Slack" but I am most excited for Chris. His grueling tour schedule, label hopping when he had nothing to do with it, and finally getting the OTV and a record deal on the same day. Awesome for him.

"Buy Me A Boat" debuts at #38 on MB this week.
Chris barely missed edging out Parmalee for #37.

Great read about Chris and "Buy Me A Boat" in this week's Billboard mid-week issue: I cannot stress enough how extremely rare this is. A song gets written on whim by Janson and DuBois last fall. Then they are able to get into a demo session with some great musicians (including Brent Anderson who had one single in late 2011 with "Amy's Song") pretty quickly after, and the song is sent to the biggest syndicated show on country radio and it ends up getting played. That would be unreal enough, but it then skyrockets to the top of the Country iTunes chart and all of a sudden, Janson is getting wooed by labels in Nashville and lands on a great label home in Warner Music Nashville...oh and the song gets selected as the next "On The Verge" single and is already in the top 30 on Billboard's airplay, lol. It stated in the article how Janson was "less than enamored" with the recording business and had been pretty off the radar for much of 2014 after Bigger Picture shuttered operation. So for all of that to happen in such a short amount of time is essentially the equivalent of winning the lottery, which is absolutely fitting considering what "Buy Me A Boat" is about.

I quite like this. It's definitely one of the better OTV selections. Should be a very big hit this summer, possibly one of the defining songs of summer of '15, honestly.

"Buy Me A Boat" finally cracks the top 30 on MB this week, landing at #27 (its already been #27 on the past two Billboard charts). Chris gained 224 spins and 1.4 million in audience, which is steady but not super great. It's worth pointing out that "Buy Me A Boat" has not gotten help from Westwood One, whereas the songs around it ("I'm To The Blame", "Fly", "Lose My Mind", "Trouble") have. It's selling amazingly too - up to #6 on the country iTunes chart and #42 on the all-genre chart. Chris got 28 adds the past two chart weeks as well.
I don't see how this isn't a #1 single and its certainly looks to be a home run selection by the folks at iHeartMedia.
