I don't know if those are good examples, Lights and Set fire to the rain were not promoted in UK, in fact Lights in UK was a different version that the one released in the USA.

Set fire to the rain on the other hand, apart from not being promoted was released from an album that sold millions. In UK third and fourth singles from albums that sold millions have a tendency to underperform. We have perfect examples in Lay me down and Bloodstream, both were performed at the brits, but noone of them got near top 10 (well Lay me down peaked at 15), and both needed a collaboration to become big hits.

Of course there are songs that seem better suited for the USA market, using Sam Smith as example i think Like i can will perform better in the USA if its finally released that it performed on UK, and it could happen the same with this song. At least the beginning seems more promising than it was in UK, but Blame and Outside were top 10 hits on pop even when they performed way worse in the hot 100 so we'll see what happens to this.

And i think Feel so close was bigger than I need your love, maybe i'm not objective because I need your love is one of the Calvin's songs i like less, but Feel so close seemed quite bigger (and the same for Sweet nothing which was his first top 10 hit on the billboard hot 100)

"Lights" and "Set Fire to the Rain" also did not receive high profile performances in the US. Especially "Set Fire to the Rain," which I believe was never promoted in the US outside of being sent for radio adds. "Lights" may have gotten a few smaller ones as it started to blow up, but that doesn't necessarily make the situation non-comparable. Also, "Lights" in the US wasn't vastly different from the version the UK got. All that was different was a few minor production changes. The two version are still nearly identical. In fact, many station in the US even played the UK single version.

As they do in the United States. That's what the whole conversation between me and allow that is about right now. Perfect current examples for the US are "Style" by Taylor Swift and "One Last Time" by Ariana Grande.

That's a big factor here is the initial response to this on radio is way better than it was in the UK. I also believe that it's also already responding better than "Blame" for sure. I don't recall how quickly "Outside" took off, though. And this tends to happen with EDM/dance artists in the US. They return much lower sales both in album and in digital tracks than their radio stats would initially lend one to believe, but I think this one will be different given its different sound.

Interesting because in my area "Let's Go" pretty much just flew under the radar. I heard it on the radio a few times, but I never heard anyone ever talk about it like I did the other three.

I realize it's unlikely, but I need this to smash so "Love Now" can be a future single. It's quite catchy, I imagine it would sound amazing on the radio.

^Hmm...what kind of update is that? On the plus side, I am happy to see it got 22 adds. I was slightly worried that either this or "King" would get shafted now that they were added on the same date but they both did fairly well.

Also, I really enjoyed the debate from the last few pages. Sorry if I'm tardy to the party, I just am curious what everyone is gauging their views on? I thought "Feel So Close", "Let's Go" and "I Need Your Love" had peaked somewhere in the teens on Hot 100 - and as far as pop radio is concerned, INYL was the higher peaking of the three. I think "Sweet Nothing" was the highest of all of the singles as I recall it being in the top 10 Hot 100. I feel like all but "Feel So Close" were top 5 or very near top 5 pop radio. Or maybe you're talking sales? In which case, I am not well-versed so

Honestly, its a good thing I live where I live because my market has given lots of love to all Calvin pop singles from the get-go. In fact, all four of the aforementioned singles get great recurrent play on the daily on all pop stations. So, if I were just relying on what it sounds like to me on the radio, I would have a very hard time judging which song was the biggest - they all felt equally huge to me. They all at some point were the most played on each of the stations - and this extends to "Summer" and "Blame" more recently too. Not to mention the early adoption of "Pray To God".

I sure hope it continues because its a great town to be a Calvin stan. Oh, and I think it was Lotterie that mentioned "Love Now" which I personally would love as a final single but probably not gonna happen - love that song though!

I couldn't even tell you what Calvin's most known hit in the New York market is because it seems like all of his singles since feel so close have spent a good amount of time in power rotation aside from Thinking About You. Even Outside seemed bigger here than the overall chart would suggest.

I don't see anything from the project surpassing Summer in overall success. This track is most similar to Let's Go from his past singles to me.

Kind of late, but let me join it~

I guess part of the discussion is about Calvin's US biggest single from 18 Months and I would say that this is "Feel So Close", followed by "Sweet Nothing" and "I Need Your Love". I'm not saying that because the former is sung by him and most of you know that I preferred the tracks where he does the vocals, but I felt that way as a foreigner view. Also, I think it had a sort of effect since most of the US people didn't know who was him, besides that he was the producer of "We Found Love" there.

I wouldn't say "Pray to God" is a flop in Europe yet. I mean, it's true that it's not performing as well as "Outside" did, but I think this is taking off there, especially in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, where a physical single came out almost two weeks ago. Obviously, I'm not saying that this is going to make the track to reach atop in those countries, but I hope it will give an extra push there. Also, as far as I remember, it helped "Outside" in Germany.

Yes. This is the sixth overall single from Motion and I would say that it could also be considered his sixth US overall single too. I mean, "Under Control" was pushed to the Dance format early 2014, while "Outside" and "Open Wide" had a split release on the CHR/Pop and Rhythmic formats, respectively, early this year. However, "Pray to God" serves as the fourth mainstream single from the album in the US and Canada and fifth overseas.

Regarding the '"Under Control" wasn't even 2 years ago' thing, it's kind of debatable actually. Despite the track came out in October of 2013, Alesso premiered it on his DJ set at Ushuaia, Ibiza for BBC Radio 1 two months before and he, Calvin and Theo teased the song late May of that year, which is sort of the time "Bounce" had when it was released officially as the first single from 18 Months back in June of 2011 with the album launch in October of 2012. However, I agree with you if releases dates are taken into consideration with the time each album was out because it would be less for "Under Control" than "Bounce".
