www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6524424/wale-second-no-1-album-furious-7-soundtrack-no-2Wale Rules With Second No. 1 Album, 'Furious 7' Soundtrack Drives to No. 2As forecast, rapper Wale debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with his Seinfeld-inspired The Album About Nothing. It’s his second chart-topper, following his previous effort, 2013’s The Gifted. With the No. 1 arrival, Wale beats out the surging Furious 7 soundtrack, which drives 17-2 and is the greatest gainer on the chart. The Album About Nothing was released on March 31 through EBM Music/Maybach/Atlantic Records, and tallied 100,000 equivalent album units in the week ending April 5 (according to Nielsen Music). The Furious 7 album (on Universal Studios/Atlantic) shifted 74,000 (a gain of 202 percent). The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). With both The Album About Nothing and Furious 7 at Nos. 1 and 2, Atlantic Records owns the top two slots for the first time since the July 19, 2014-dated chart. That week, Trey Songz’ Trigga (on Songbook/Atlantic) debuted at No. 1, while Ed Sheeran’s x (Atlantic) fell 1-2 in its second week. Furious 7’s 15-position rise is the largest jump into the top two on the chart since the Les Miserables soundtrack zoomed 31 rungs (from No. 33 to No. 2) on the Jan. 12, 2013 chart. The Les Miserables soundtrack debuted at No. 33 from only three full days of sales, as it was released on an off-cycle Friday (Dec. 21, 2012), four days before its parent film premiered in theaters. Then, once the album had a full week of sales (in the week ending Dec. 30, concurrent with the movie’s debut), the set flew to No. 2. Furious 7 is in its third week on the chart, but like Les Miserables, its swift chart climb on the current tally is owed to the film’s theatrical bow (on April 3). Furious 7 is up 388 percent in traditional album sales (33,000 for the week), up 154 percent in track equivalent album units (38,000) and up 3 percent in streaming equivalent album units (3,000). Much of the soundtrack’s gain is owed to the performance of its multiple hit songs, especially Wiz Khalifa’s “See You Again.” It sold 168,000 downloads for the week (up 488 percent) and its video serves as a tribute to the film’s co-star Paul Walker, who died during filming of Furious 7. Furious 7 just beats out the new album by one of Furious 7’s other co-stars, Ludacris. The hip-hop artist sees his new album Ludaversal bow at No. 3 with 73,000 units. It is his eighth top 10 album, and first full-length release since 2010’s Battle of the Sexes, which debuted at No. 1 with 137,000 units of pure album sales its first week. Last week’s No. 1, Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly, falls to No. 4 in its third week with 65,000 units (down 47 percent). Taylor Swift’s 1989 spends a 23rd consecutive week locked in the top five (its entire chart run), as it holds steady at No. 5 with just over 59,000 units. Only 10 albums have spent their first 23 weeks on the chart in the top five. The last to do so was Adele’s 21, which logged its first 39 weeks in the region back in 2011. Sam Smith’s In the Lonely Hour dips 4-6 with 59,000 units (up 12 percent). It is the 35th nonconsecutive week in the top 10 for the album. Darius Rucker debuts at No. 7 with Southern Style (57,000), clocking his fourth top 10 solo set. His last studio album, True Believers, debuted and peaked at No. 2. Southern Style also opens at No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart, securing Rucker his fourth chart-topper on that list. He previously led the country tally with True Believers; Charleston, SC 1966 (in 2010) and Learn To Live (2008). Rock act Death Cab For Cutie also stars in the top 10 with its new album Kintsugi. The Barsuk/Atlantic set enters at No. 8 with 56,000 units. It’s the fourth top 10 effort for the group, which was last in the top 10 with its previous studio effort, 2011’s Codes and Keys (No. 3 debut and peak). It’s also the third top 10 for Atlantic Records on the latest chart. The soundtrack to Fifty Shades of Grey slides 3-9 in its eighth week on the tally, moving 54,000 units. Rounding out the top 10 is the second top 10 album for singer/songwriter Sufjan Stevens, who debuts at No. 10 with Carrie & Lowell (53,000 units). Stevens was last in the top 10 with his previous studio release, 2010’s The Age of Adz, which debuted and peaked at No. 7. Stevens’ new album also debuts at No. 1 on Vinyl Albums, Tastemakers and Internet Albums charts.

www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.33312/title.hip-hop-album-sales-wale-ludacris-kendrick-lamarHip Hop Album Sales: Wale, Ludacris & Kendrick Lamarby Jay Balfour posted Wednesday April 08, 2015 at 10:30AM PDT Wale has another #1 album on his hands and Ludacris climbs into the Top 3. This week's Billboard 200 features three new Hip Hop albums at the top of the chart, led by another strong first-week debut from Wale who easily claimed the #1 spot with his The Album About Nothing. The Hip Hop-heavy soundtrack to Furious 7 climbed up to #2 as the movie debuted last weekend. Meanwhile, Ludacris' ninth album is in the Top 3 and Kendrick Lamar's third fell to #4 despite consistent album sales. Lower down the list, Drake fell from #8 to #14 and Big Sean from#14 to #25. After his Top 10 debut last week, Action Bronson's Mr. Wonderful fell nearly 50 spots to #55 and Earl Sweatshirt's latest fell more than 100 from #12 to #166 a week after its release. Death Grips' new album, Powers That Be, cracked the Top 100 at #72 with just over 9,000 albums sold in its first week of availability. Wale Nabs #1 Wale's The Album About Nothing has just become his second consecutive release to debut at #1 on the Billboard 200. The DMV rapper's new album easily took the top spot thanks to first week sales of 88,210 units and a total activity count of 100,245, an amalgam of record sales, stream activity and single song sales. The album, which was built out of an extended collaboration with comedian Jerry Seinfeld, has been streamed nearly 7 million times since its release. Wale's last album, The Gifted, bowed at the top spot in 2013 with over 150,000 first-week sales. Ludacris Enters Top 3 Ludacris' ninth album, Ludaversal, barely missed the #2 spot but ended up in the Top 3 nonetheless with more than 62,000 album sales a week after its release. Despite his #3 standing, Luda sold the second-most albums on the chart, nearly twice as many as the actual runner-up but trailed behind due to relatively lackluster single song sales. Kendrick Lamar Falls To #4 After spending his first two weeks on the chart at #1, Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly fell three spots to #4. The TDE rapper's latest album suffered a 47 percent drop in total activity since last week but kept up with steady sales of 53,456. While the album has now sold a total of 484,410 copies since release, it has enough total activity units to have surpassed the required half-a-million units of a Gold album. If taking sales alone, the album will likely break the Gold record milestone next week. Top 10 Billboard Top 200 Rap & R&B Albums For The Week Ending 04/05/2015Note: The first number below is this week’s “total album equivalent units” count, an intersection of album sales, single sales, and streams implemented by Billboard's new rating system. Hard rock sales. Surprised no mention of Three Days Grace's new album at all. www.metalinsider.net/columns/metal-by-numbers/metal-by-numbers-48-say-goodbye-to-hollywoodMetal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top metal sellers and debuts of the week. I really thought we were going to see Nightwish take the top spot this week but apparently Hollywood Undead made an album too. I attribute my lack of foresight to not thinking about Hollywood Undead unless they’re on the charts. But fair is fair, and the band gets the top spot followed by Van Halen’s first live album with David Lee Roth (I know, weird right?). It’s still a good haul this week, so good take a look-see. Notable Debuts: Hollywood Undead, Day of the Dead (Interscope) #11, 34,700 sold The band’s fourth album is just shy of the top 10. Remember when they were initially famous because of MySpace? Van Halen, Tokyo Dome In Concert (Rhino) #14, 30,625 sold The band’s second live album makes it into the top 15 following a tour announcement. Hopefully Diamond Dave doesn’t get overexcited and bust his nose again. Nighwish, Endless Forms Most Beautiful (Nuclear Blast)#23, 18,275 sold The band’s eighth album is its first with Floor Jansen on vocals and marks the band’s highest debut yet in the US. Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts, Blaster (Softdrive) #72, 5,300 sold The debut of Weiland newest solo album comes not long after the death of the band’s guitarist Jeremy Brown. We Are Harlot, We Are Harlot (Roadrunner) #82, 4,650 sold Here’s the self-titled debut Danny Worsnop’s (ex-Asking Alexandria) new band. It’s considerably less than what AA does, but it’s a whole new beginning for them. Full Devil Jacket, Valley of Bones (eOne) 750 sold Fifteen years after their debut, Full Devil Jacket have finally released their second album following the death of founding member Michael Reaves. Prong, Songs From the Black Hole (eOne) 710 sold Tommy Victor and company cover everything from Fugazi to Neil young. Katatonia, Sanctitude (Kscope) 580 sold This is the band’s third live album. Violent Reaction, Marching On (Revelation) 420 sold A UK straight edge hardcore band with a really colorful Facebook bio. Notable Sales: Kid Rock, First Kiss (Warner Bros.) #35, 10,700 sold A 10% sales boost rocks. This album’s almost halfway to gold in six weeks, but it’s not like you’re hearing anything from it. Sleeping With Sirens, Madness (Epitaph) #57, 6,900 sold Just under 50,000 sold. AC/DC, Rock or Bust (Columbia) #103, 3,500 sold Busting up a 6% boost. Red, Of Beauty and Rage (Essential) #144, 2,625 sold Rage, rage against the 10% drop. Slipknot, .5: The Grey Chapter (Roadrunner) #152, 2,500 sold A tiny boost of 4%. Marilyn Manson, The Pale Emperor (Loma Vista) #153, 2,500 sold Now over 100,000 copies sold, which will buy him plenty of Dennys. Falling In Reverse, Just Like You (Epitaph) #165, 2,300 sold Just a 3% drop. Foo Fighters, Sonic Highways (RCA) #168, 2,275 sold Forgot to mention this last week, but remember two years ago when we made an April Fool’s post about Dave Grohl and Ghost? Skillet, Rise (Atlantic) #179, 2,150 sold Rising up with a 24% boost. All That Remains, The Order of Things (Razor & Tie) #182, 2,125 sold A tru kvlt boost of 11% boost puts this at almost 34,000 in six weeks. The Pretty Reckless, Going To Hell (Razor & Tie) #183, 2,100 sold A 21% boost is going to help. Enslaved, In Times (Nuclear Blast) 430 sold Time is ticking with a 42% drop. Sons of Texas, Baptized In The Rio Grande (Razor & Tie) 420 sold Think these guys would ever cover Duran Duran? Black Star Riders, The Killer Instinct (Nuclear Blast) 390 sold Starring an 18% drop. Motor Sister, Ride (Metal Blade) 370 sold So if this band toured with the above one would it be called “Motor Sister Rides The Black Star Tour”? A 32% drop. Blind Guardian, Beyond The Red Mirror (Nuclear Blast) 350 sold A 15% drop puts this on guard. Amaranthe, Massive Addictive (Spinefarm) 340 sold A 25% boost continues sales for this album that’s stuck like glue to the charts and has sold about 15,000 so far. Torche, Restarter (Relapse) 340 sold A 42% drop, but we could see more numbers when the band tours the US this summer. Oceans Ate Alaska, Lost Isles (Fearless) 320 sold A.k.a. Sarah Palin’s least favorite metal band. Like a Storm, Awaken The Fire (Century Media) 300 sold It was a dark and stormy 18% drop. Rival Sons, Great Western Valkyrie (Earache) 280 sold A 27% brings this back on the charts. Moonspell, Extinct (Napalm) 270 sold A 24% drop makes this endangered. Revolution Saints, Revolution Saints (Frontiers) 260 sold Turned down to 11%.

Whoever had the idea of dropping Ludacris' album the same week as the Furious 7 soundtrack and movie is smart.

roughstock.com/news/2015/04/34099-country-album-chart-report-for-april-8-2015/Country Album Chart Report For April 8, 2015Posted by Matt Bjorke on April 8, 2015 Darius Rucker debuts at #1 with Southern Style, a strong reach of nearly 52,000 fans sold (which places him at #7 on all-genre the Billboard Hot 200 Albums chart). The album’s lead single “Homegrown Honey” hit #1 on the Mediabase/Country Aircheck chart last week. (Note: Thanks to the release of Southern Style, his last album True Believers has re-charted. It’s sold 575,400 to date). Luke Bryan’s third week on the chart with Spring Break…Checkin’ Out, comes in at #2 while Sam Hunt slides in at the #3 slot on the Country Album Chart Report For April 8, 2015. Luke Bryan’s album sales slid only 6% thanks to Easter’s annual sales boost and brings sales to154k scanned so far while #3 Sam Hunt’s Montevallo has now sold over 426k to date. At #4 is the all-new ACM Awards 50 double disc set from the Now! That’s What I Call Music series. It sold nearly 11,000 copies. Rounding out our Top Five on the Country Album Chart Report For April 8, 2015 is Jason Aldean’s Old Boots New Dirt with sales now at over 896k to date. Top Ten Recap #6 holds the 2015 ACM ZinePak sold exclusively at Walmart Stores while Florida Georgia Line’s Anything Goes is now at 606k scanned to hold down #7. Eric Church’s The Outsiders is at #8 with sales at 884k to date while Little Big Town’s Pain Killer sits at #9 with sales now at 167k to date. Meanwhile, Carrie Underwood’s Greatest Hits: Decade #1 rounds out the Top 10 with sales now at over 320k (which is 640k in the RIAA’s minds for certification, so it’s only 180k scanned from Platinum, where the dual disc will eventually end up as a catalog release that stays in most brick and mortar retail stores). Notables Notables include Chase Rice’s Ignite The Night with sales nearly at 210k while Cole Swindell’s self-titled album is nearing 350k sold (each single from the project is Gold/Platinum though). Brantley Gilbert’s up to over 750k scanned with Just As I Am and will be releasing a special deluxe edition of the album soon. Blake Shelton’s Bringing Back The Sunshine and Kenny Chesney’s The Big Revival are both around 350k scanned. Meanwhile, Sturgill Simpson’s Metamodern Sounds In Country Music continues to find fans and has now sold over 118k without any radio exposure. Finally, Jon Wolfe debuts with Natural Man and Shania Twain’s Come On Over gets a look. Unfortunately there’s no news on Home Free, Scotty McCreery or Keith Urban’s latest. But if you add roughly 1,000 to their numbers from two weeks ago, that’s a good guesstimate where all three’s album sales are nearing, which means Urban’s FUSE is close to Gold (scanned) and could be certified soon, if it’s not already. Just a note- there's at least one typo in the hard rock article. Madness' album is No. 57 on Top Album Sales, not 39.

Billboard 200 Chart Moves: Ed Sheeran Scores His Second Million-Selling Album By Keith Caulfield | April 10, 2015 9:49 PM EDT
Also: One Direction’s “Take Me Home” crosses the 2 million sales mark, Van Halen’s second live album debuts & Taylor Swift’s top five reign continues.
The Billboard 200 chart ranks the week’s most popular albums based on their overall consumption. That overall unit figure combines pure album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).
Let’s take a closer look at some of the action on the chart:
— Taylor Swift, 1989 - No. 5 — The album has now spent its first 23 weeks in the top five of the chart. It is only the 10th set to achieve the feat since Billboard combined the tally's mono and stereo listings in 1963.
— Van Halen, Tokyo Dome Live In Concert – No. 20 — Van Halen debuts at No. 20 on the Billboard 200 with its new live album, Tokyo Dome Live In Concert. Remarkably, if the album -- its 16th chart entry -- goes no higher than No. 20, it will mark the lowest-charting effort for the band in its 37-year career on the tally. Tokyo Dome starts with 31,000 equivalent album units, nearly all from pure album sales. The set was promoted by a two-night performance on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live on March 30 and 31, and an April 2 visit to The Ellen DeGeneres Show. The gigs were touted as the band’s first U.S. TV performances with singer David Lee Roth. Previous to this week, the only Van Halen title to miss the top 10 was their self-titled debut, which peaked at No. 19 on May 20, 1978 (after debuting at No. 149 on March 11).
The new set is the group’s second live album to chart, following Live: Right Here, Right Now, which debuted and peaked at No. 5 in 1993. That album featured Sammy Hagar on vocals, while the new release boasts Roth, who fronted the band from 1974-1985, later returning in 2006.
— The Maine, American Candy - No. 27 — With 14,000 copies sold, the band clocks its biggest sales week since 2010, when Black & White launched with 25,000 sold (at No. 16). The new set is also the group’s highest charting release since Black & White.
— One Direction, Four - No. 41 — Four, the group’s fourth album, is only 46,000 copies away from becoming the group’s fourth million-seller. Further, their second release, Take Me Home, surpassed 2 million in sales during the week ending March 29. It’s now one of two albums for the vocal group that have sold 2 million copies. It joins their debut set, Up All Night, which has sold 2.04 million. (One Direction’s third album, Midnight Memories, has sold 1.49 million.)
— NF, Mansion – No. 62 — Rapper NF sees his first full-length album, Mansion, debut at No. 62 on the Billboard 200 and at No. 1 on Top Christian Albums. The album moves in with 9,000 copies sold in the week ending April 5, with its overall first-week equivalent album unit total just over 10,000. NF (real name Nate Feuerstein) signed with Capitol Christian Music Group in 2014 and made his first Billboard chart appearance as the featured act on Flame’s “Start Over” (No. 7 peak on the Gospel Digital Songs dated Oct. 19, 2013).
— Ed Sheeran, + – No. 71 — In the sales week ending March 29, Sheeran's debut album, +, reached a million in total album sales. It was released in 2012. Both of Sheeran's albums are in the million-sellers club, as his second effort, 2014's x, has so far sold 1.4 million.
— Ringo Starr, Postcards From Paradise – No. 99 — Ringo Starr return to the Billboard 200 chart, notching his 16th charting album with Postcards From Paradise’s debut at No. 99. The album bows with 7,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending April 5, according to Nielsen Music. Postcards comes nearly 45 years after he made his solo debut on the Billboard 200 with Sentimental Journey. That set started at No. 51 on the May 16, 1970-dated chart, on its way to a No. 22 peak the following month. Starr would visit the top 10 twice in his solo career, with 1973’s Ringo (peaking at No. 2 for two weeks behind Elton John’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road) and 1974’s Goodnight Vienna (No. 8). Starr is the only member of The Beatles without a solo No. 1 album. As for his fellow Beatles, Paul McCartney has seven leaders (counting both his solo efforts and those with Wings), John Lennon has three, and George Harrison has two.
Though Starr lacks a No. 1 album, he does own a pair of chart-topping singles on the Billboard Hot 100, with “Photograph” and “You’re Sixteen.”
— Selena, Lo Mejor de - No. 102 — It's the 15th charting album for the late legend and her highest-ranking since 1999, when All My Hits Todos Mis Exitos peaked at No. 54. The new album was released on the 20th anniversary of her death, March 31. For the week ending April 5, Selena’s overall album sales grew by 262 percent to 9,000 sold. Her digital song sales also climbed: gaining 167 percent to 26,000 sold.
Selena’s non-programmed U.S. streams were also unsurprisingly up for the week, rising by 133 percent to 7.2 million. Her most-streamed song of the week was “Dreaming Of You,” with 788,000.

Didn't realize this until I saw actual chart data. Taylor Swift has had 11 weeks at #1 and has been in the top 5 for 23 consecutive weeks. Imagine what this would be if her albums were available on streaming.

Daryl- because Top Album Sales and Current Albums are purely album-sales-based, that's why I look at those two. :)
