I think it's odd how SYA came out of the blue juuuuuuust in time to keep a song from breaking a record. Especially since the only time I've heard it is when I played the minute sample at iTunes. It's Harlem Shake rare. It was simply released to coincide with the release of the movie and its soundtrack. Unless of course Universal based the release date of their $250 million film and its soundtrack around stopping Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars from breaking a Mariah Carey Billboard chart record that nobody outside of chart nerds cares or even knows about. Which also would have required a functioning crystal ball. Which do you think is more likely? obviously. my comment was just stating it's strange how it played out imo. 2 weeks ago we were all wondering if LMLYD or Sugar could end UF's reign. No one saw SYA coming. It's crazy how fast it rose to #1, very rare.

How so? Are you referring to SYA? It sold 319,000 more copies than the No. 2 song and had 10.4 million more streams (largely fueled by its official video, not some random parody/viral video.) The only component in which it's lacking is airplay, and I'm personally glad that isn't weighted any more heavily than it already is. Or is this just another example of "I don't like the songs in the Top 10, therefore the chart is flawed"? That's pretty much what I interpret that comment as. It's not the points system that's a joke, it's the people who choose to buy and listen to the awful songs that make it to the upper ranks, in this case, Trap Queen. And you will NOT BELIEVE the amount of people I see whining on a weekly basis over on Billboard and HR Chart about this. Their ringleader, The Grand Revo, is a f**king joke. TheGrandRevo is stupid (I see his comments in the HRChart videos). And in the case of Trap Queen I also hate this song but I understand the people who like it because all have different tastes of music. In fact I like so much a song which you really really hate (and I won't tell you what because you'd probably hate me).

I'm not gonna like it, but I won't absolutely hate you for it.

No one saw SYA coming. It's crazy how fast it rose to #1, very rare. But it was quite clear that with maybe the exception of Sugar the rest of the top songs didn't have a chance, and it would be a new song that one that will knock UF from its throne. Nobody saw SYA coming because it was exactly that a new song coming from the throne. I don't think nobody really saw UF coming either when it became a big hit

Its so weird that the song that stopped UF has a similar message as One Sweet Day....Its destiny I was thinking the same thing...how ironic that the 2015 lyrical equivalent of "One Sweet Day" would be the song to halt "Uptown Funk" at 14 weeks!

Were we all like this when I Gotta Feeling was at 14 weeks? I don't remember that being as big of a deal.

I don't remember it being as bad, because I don't think "I Gotta Feeling" was so far ahead of every other song by the end of its reign. UF was still gaining in week 12 with no viable contenders on the immediate horizon. I seem to recall IGF running out of steam and lowering its lead a few weeks before it fell.

Probably not because IGF was clearly losing a lot of steam and by week 12 it was clearly that it didn't have long to live, whereas UF was still going strong and would've had the record if not for SYA coming out of nowhere within a matter of 2 weeks. Everyone was ready for IGF to be dethroned by Jay Sean (hey he hasn't been around for a while now lol guess his 15 minutes of fame were up pretty quickly)

"UF" only fell 1% in airplay? I guess all of it's Mediabase losses are on non-BDS stations.

I think we'll be seeing the same Top 2 for several weeks.... Even Pop radio is very slow in dropping UF - that's probably the biggest surprise.

SYA has reached No. 1 in its 5th week on the Hot 100. Looking at the past couple of years:
- "Roar" (week 4), "Wrecking Ball" (week 4), "Shake It Off" (week 1), and "Blank Space" (week 3) all reached No. 1 even faster - "Blurred Lines" (week 8), "The Monster" (week 6), "Happy" (week 8), and "Uptown Funk" (week 8) took slightly longer
So its climb has certainly been faster than the average (since there's been plenty of songs that took longer than any of the above), but not unheard of.

Yeah, I know which one it is... Unlike a lot of people in this crazy social media world, I judge people by ACTIONS and not PREFERENCES and/or OPINIONS. Do I dislike others' preferences? Occasionally, yes. Does it make me completely hate him/her for it? No.

Uptown Funk spends a record tying 16th week in the top 2. Next week would be week 17 and set a new record.

I Gotta Feeling was barely #1 in its dying weeks. I think it only stayed #1 because of an Oprah performance or something. Either way, the top 5 was extremely close when it got dethroned (which is also why it dropped 1-5.)

Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars have nothing to complain about. Uptown Funk will go down as their biggest hit.
