Lyrically, sonically, what song endings sound the most sad to you? :'(
1. Ambrosia - HOW MUCH I FEEL "How's your life been going on? I've got a wife now, years we've going strong... OH NO! There's just something that I've got to say Sometimes when we make love...I still see your face Just try to recall, when we were as one..."
2. Ciara - I BET "Right now it's killing me Cause now I have to find someone else...when all I wanted was you"

This thread instantly made me think of Dolly Parton, lol...
Dolly Parton - "Down from Dover" My body aches the time is here it's lonely in this place where I'm lyin' Our baby has been born but something's wrong it's much too still I hear no cryin' I guess in some strange way she knew she'd never have a father's arms to hold her And dying was her way of telling me he wasn't coming down from Dover
Dolly Parton - "The Bridge" Tonight, while standing on the bridge My heart is beating wild To think that you could leave me here With our unborn child
My feet are moving slowly Closer to the edge Here is where it started And here is where I'll end it...
Dolly Parton - "Evening Shade" Plans were that Joe Johnson would steal the kerosene And I would get some matches when nobody seen Beckie Adams would make sure the kids were all outside Billy Watson would look out for the evil eye
Now Mrs. Bailey took a nap at three o'clock each day We knew that she'd be a'sleeping as the plans got underway Now that its all over and the sun is going down There's no evening shade 'cause we burned it to the ground

2Pac - Brenda's Got a Baby Now Brenda's gotta make her own way Can't go to her family, they won't let her stay No money no babysitter, she couldn't keep a job She tried to sell crack, but end up getting robbed So now what's next, there ain't nothing left to sell So she sees sex as a way of leaving hell It's paying the rent, so she really can't complain Prostitute, found slain, and Brenda's her name, she's got a baby
Notorious B.I.G. - Suicidal Thoughts People at the funeral frontin' like they miss me My baby momma kissed me but she glad I'm gone She knew me and her sista had somethin' goin' on I reach my peak, I can't speak, call my n!gga Chic, tell him that my will is weak. I'm sick of n!ggas lyin', I'm sick of bitches hawkin', matter of fact, I'm sick of talkin'. [BANG]

Most obvious example I can think of off the top of my head is Tracy Chapman's 'Fast Car'. <3

Rise Against - "The Approaching Curve"
Murder-suicide over jilted lovers.
The car pressed on faster through the night. As our voices lowered,
The cadence again overtook the air.
Up ahead there was a curve approaching.
She made no indications of slowing.
*crash*

Brandy - "Love Wouldn't Count Me Out" :'(
It used to be... that you couldn't live without me but now you think you're better without me so I guess it wasn't true when you said I love you..
I soo can feel the pain in her voice.
Also Aaliyah's "I Refuse" ending is very sad sonically to me.

Blake Shelton - "The Baby"
"I got a call in Alabama, said come on home to Louisiana and come as fast as you can fly. Cause your momma really needs you, and says she's got to see you, she might not make it through the night. The whole way I drove 80 so she could see her baby.
She looked like she was sleepin' and my family had been weepin' by the time that I got to her side. And I knew that she'd been taken, and my heart it was breakin', I never got to say goodbye.
I softly kissed that lady and cried just like a baby."

Great picks! "The Bridge" is a prime example of Dolly at her artistic best.

Not really a personal favorite of mine, but it's tragic especially once you reach the end.

"Dark Blue Tennessee" | Taylor Swift Unfortunately, there don't seem to be any HQ versions on YouTube, since it's technically "unreleased." It's slightly vague, but the subject of the song seems to kill himself at the end: "She almost called him on the night that he wrote these simple words on his goodbye note
missing you like this is such sweet sorrow won't you come back to me I'll be here today and here tomorrow in dark blue Tennessee..."

Just an incredibly sad song all around about that last chorus gottdamn. The song is about falling in love with somebody in Paris and then having to leave to fly back to Canada. In translation, it kind of lacks the umph but just listen to the French and feel it.
(And I don't know if you're worth the effort It's pretty hard to be certain And when you you're at Vincennes (or Pearson in the original version) tonight Don't forget me I was waiting for you to tell you that I wanted to take the biggest risk A night that made me so sad A night in Place de la Republique)
