No doubt that this album will be nominated for album of the year. Very strong from start to finish.

I had this on in the background while I was doing some work, and this sounds fantastic. I imagine this will end up being my favorite album of the year. I'll post a review when I can listen to it completely un-distracted.

Thanks jhomes87 ! You are a mind reader. I've literally spent the evening pouring over Stapletons catalog on Ascap & making a playlist of mostly the album tracks his accumulated over the years that I really enjoy. Kinda surprised myself with how many great gems I loved that I wasn't even aware came from his pen. On to Traveller! I'm absolutely crazy over this record! This is why I roll my eyes when I hear buzz words like "evolution" to describe what passes for country music today. To me , this is a true evolution of country music. Its definitely the album to beat as far as Im concerned. Not a bad song in the bunch, just stellar performances & no cluttered arrangements . Hell , a few songs could have probably used a bit MORE accompaniment. I know we are only 4 months into 2015 , but it's gonna take a staggering great record to dethrone this album from the top of my "Best Of" list!

2 songs in and it's already the best album I've heard in 2015
.....all these songs are great, but man...those notes he hits in "Sometimes I Cry"...

I'm so tempted to listen to the album but i'm going to wait until release day. Definitely one of my most hyped albums of the year.

So pumped for this album. I'm a huge fan of Chris' work with the Steeldrivers, and I expect this album to be as good if not better.

I'm waiting for the album to release but this will probably be my favorite album this year and I can safely say that. There's already some stiff competition but I have no doubt Chris is up to the challenge.
So far this year Allison Moorer's 'Down To Believing" is my top album for reference.

Listening to this again right now - I think it's a terrific album, but my favorite track is easily "Parachute" (which you could probably tell from my status, haha). I actually think that one could make a little noise at country radio and I'm a bit surprised that they didn't think to lead off with that one as the single. I love the title track as well and I hope it can at least chart.
My other early favorites are probably "Fire Away", "Nobody To Blame", "When The Stars Come Out", and "Was It 26".

Ha! I guess great minds think alike! :) I love the album to death, but yeah, "Parachute" is my favorite and I wish that it could have been the lead single. I've got it on repeat.

That line, "Sun comes up and goes back down/falling feels like flying til you hit the ground"...I can't describe why, but I really like it.

Ha! Ive always gotta be the oddball. "Parachute" (along with "More Of You") would easily fall to the bottom of my favorites from the album. Not that either are bad. "Nobody To Blame" , Was It 26" & "The Devil Named Music" are my early favorites. Then again Ive been listening to 3 or 4 of the other songs from the album for years as demo's so they are kinda old to me.

I love all of these songs. There's not one that I think is even "okay". "Sometimes I Cry" is one of the best country songs I've ever heard. Period.

Yeah , Im so tempted to go to iTunes right now & "complete album". I'm seriously trying to hold off though and pick up a physical copy tomorrow , if I can track one down.... EDITED: (Sigh) And of course at almost 9AM my local Wally World STILL hasn't stocked the new music. Grrr... 2ND EDIT: Found it but one slight complaint (that has nothing to do with the music) but I really wish these cheap cardboard packages would go away. I know , discs are on the way out , but the whole reason I went out of my way to find a hard copy was the liner notes....and there are barely any (or much of anything else as far as the packaging goes). Im a bit of a stickler for keeping my music in alphabetic order and this packaging is completely useless and would get lost quickly in my music library. Ill have to make my own cover. Which was another reason I went out of my way to purchase a hard copy instead of just buying it on iTunes & burning it!

^ I don't mind those cardboard CD cases. I prefer the plastic ones as well, but they get cracked and scratched up en route to the retailers a lot and sometimes I don't know that it's broken until after I've bought it. Worst feeling ever when that happens. :'( I buy most of my albums at Target and they've been pretty good about keeping them in good condition, but I try to avoid ever buying CDs at Walmart (for a lot of other reasons, too).

To each their own, I know Target has cleaned up their act in recent years , but I still remember when they had a pretty ugly track record on gay rights . Not building up Wally World by any means cause they've got their issues as well. But yeah , I'm broke and have to go where the deal is. I agree on the jewel cases kinda though, I'm clumsy , so all I mine are broke and/or cracked. But at least I can find them when I need them.

^ I don't like the cardboard either. As someone who enjoys the physical product, I always love seeing inside cover art and liner notes. Plus the cardboard can get pretty beat up as well (like how a physical CD can crack easy).
As for the album, I've been pretty busy (and will still be) this week, however I've heard the first 8 tracks and it's definitely a phenomonal album, my favorites at this point are probably "Parachute", "Whiskey and You", "Nobody To Blame", "Traveller" and "When The Stars Come Out"

The kinds of cases where you can't remove/reinsert the disc without scratching it are the worst thing ever.

It's certainly not the end of the world but it definitely is a let down when the album you want is in one. I know the plastic one's break easy, but I'll take my crack or two with the full album booklet over a cardboard case any day. The last cardboard album I purchased was Lee Ann Womack's The Way I'm Livin'. In fact I bought it twice, lol. One for myself and then another for my father at Christmas.

Wondering why I just didn't pay the extra money to get it shipped here today. Arriving Thursday. It was worth the "Traveller" t-shirt.
No surprise it's #1. I have this weird feeling that this album will slowly but surely be impossible for mainstream country to ignore and at least give Chris a top 20 single.

Now that the album is out, the NPR link was taken down...BUT, the album is on Spotify, so I updated the first post with the Spotify embed to stream the album :)

Can only second everybody's opinions above. This album is really GREAT and just right up my alley. I have been listening to it today and it has the same spell as Wade Bowen and Sturgill Simpson had last year. Have "Parachute" on repeat! :) Don't know how to put this for fear of being publicly hung: why is this described in here as "traditional", I feel this as Southern Rock or Alternative/Independent.

I like digipaks. Less waste for the landfills and they're more vinyl-like this way.
As for this album. It's fantastic. Easily tops others for album of year thus far.

I actually think it has more southern blues feel to it. A lot of bluesy vocal arrangements. But regardless it's great. Daddy doesn't pray anymore sounds like one of the best country songs I've heard ever. Love the harmonica by Mickey Raphael too, really sells the song I agree with all on here, I think Parachute has smash written all over it. I think it could easily go top 20. I love the driving rhythm in the chorus. Makes me want to do something. Lol not sure what. I think my favorite track may be Might As Well Get Stoned. Some awesome swampy blues type instrumentals in there Overall this album had same affect on me that brandy Clark album did, and The Guitar Song and a few others. Instant classic that I can't stop listening to. This is what music should be about IMo
