I've been trying to branch out my taste of music lately, so I have a question. Can anyone recommend some good bluegrass acts (new and old) to get me acquainted with? I mean I have Dierks Bentley's "Up On The Ridge" album as well as some Allison Krauss stuff but I feel like there's still a whole world for me to explore.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Also, I started a thread just in case anyone wanted to say some stuff about bluegrass (considering that there's no actual place for it here)

I strongly suggest listening to The Greencards. Especially their debut album Weather and Water. :)

Rhonda Vincent! All her albums are really good and you can't go wrong with any of them really. Though my favorite is "All American Bluegrass Girl"
Dailey & Vincent are good, The Greencards, The Earls Of Leicester, Nickel Creek, Del McCoury, of course you can't forget Bill Monroe, Flatts & Scruggs.
Dolly's bluegrass albums are really great too, don't hesitate to check them out.
Ricky Skagg's work is always been great.
Patty Loveless' two bluegrass albums are very strong.
Ooh and I love all of Cherryholmes' albums.

Excellent suggestions so far. A few names that haven't been mentioned: Ralph Stanley, David Grisman, Peter Rowan, Dale Ann Bradley, John Hartford, Bela Fleck, Tony Rice, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Alison Brown, Laurie Lewis, Mike Marshall, David Grier, Edgar Meyer. The world of bluegrass is very vast and I'm just beginning to learn about it myself really. I'm not familiar with all of those artists myself personally, but they're all on my list of artists I've heard good things about and whose music I either plan to collect or am in the process of collecting.
Personally, I'm a huge fan of the pioneers and legends (Bill Monroe, Ralph Stanley, Flatt & Scruggs), but if you're not used to listening to very old music, their sound might come off a bit too "raw" initially. It might be better to start with a modern band that is more accessible like The Grascals or AKUS to be your gateway to bluegrass. Lots of really good stuff in this subgenre.

Dave Adkins (his band Adkins & Loudermilk), especially if you like Country as they have some Country in their Bluegrass.

Make sure to include these in your review thread zack97. ;) Maybe, but the current releases are definitely enough right now lol Thanks for the help so far everyone! I just was shopping at Cracker Barrel and actually found a copy of Ralph Stanley's recent "Man Of Constant Sorrow" album so I'm looking forward to listening to that :)

I came in here to recommend quite a few people but they've already been recommended so there's no point in recommending them. How many more times can I say recommend? You found a Ralph Stanley album at Cracker Barrel? that is extremely random I feel like

Yeah they had a ton of copies, plus it was a Cracker Barrel exclusive Yeah , Ive been meaning to pick that up myself as Lee Ann Womack (among others) has a cut on it. I like bluegrass in small doses , & Im pretty picky. I tend to like some of the newer acts more than the legendary acts. I really like the Steeldrivers (of course ) especially the first two with Chris Stapleton . Lonesome River Band is good. And anything Steve Gulley has ever done just mesmerizes me. Think George Jones as a bluegrass singer. He also used to be with Grasstowne and a few other random bands that I cant think of right now before I've had my coffee.. As others mentioned Ricky Skaggs & Rhonda Vincent are solid as well. Of the older acts , Im not gonna lie....a majority of it other than a few selected tracks are a bit much for me, but I always liked Jimmy Martin quite a bit.

Pretty much everybody has already been named:
Chris Thile (of Nickel Creek) and Edgar Meyer: All Albums And their collaboration with Yo-Yo Ma & Stuart Duncan on "The Goat Rodeo Sessions"
Maybe, also Alan Jackson's excursion into Bluegrass: "The Bluegrass Album".

It's not out yet but "The Lonesome Trio" is a great record, The Steeldrivers (Stapleton and Nichols-fronted). Check out Marty Raybon's bluegrass stuff, Daily & Vincent, Steep Canyon Rangers, The Grascals, James King (who has a killer version of "Daddy Doesn't Pray Anymore"), Della Mae, Steve Martin & The Steep Canyon Rangers, The Earls of Leicaster, and Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver. Just to name a few.

How did I forget about James King? I love his album Lonesome and Then Some. His cover of "When I Call Your Name" is really good.

^Why would you do this to me? I made it to the 1:17 point on the second video. The female had a pretty good voice but yeah..... that's as close to a compliment as I can muster.
