Yesterday this was at #5 on Mediabase and today it is at #7!!! I'm so happy because of that and because yesterday Rascal Flatts was 4 million ahead and now they are 5 million ahead of Garth.

Debuts on the Hot 100 at #34. Pretty amazing considering the single isn't for sale anywhere.
Edit: Never mind that. I misread something. Garth's at #34 on the National Airplay Chart, not the Hot 100.

It looks like this song may fall out of the Top 10 on its second week. It lost another .8 million AI's today and fell to #8 on Mediabase.
What's the record for the biggest fall from the #1 spot?

I don't know the exact number off the top of my head, but I do know that this song isn't in any danger of breaking that record. Songs would routinely drop like rocks back in the '80's. A better question would be to look at songs from the BDS era.

^Interesting. I wonder why that was so common in the 80's but not now.

I think I remember Ten Pound Hammer saying that it was "Mi Vida Loca" that held the record, falling to number 21 or something, but I could be totally off.

^Interesting. I wonder why that was so common in the 80's but not now. It has to do with the way charts were tabulated. Now, they are electronically monitored by BDS and Billboard uses their data to make their charts. Back in the '80's, radio stations used to report their playlists manually. I guess they weren't as accurate back then. Not only did songs fall much quicker, but the longest any song spent at #1 in the '80's was 3 weeks and 90% of them only spent 1 week. Every one of George Strait's 18 #1 singles in the 80's spent exactly 1 week at #1.

^Whoa....Hold on. For some reason, I'm thinking I've heard this song, but I'm also thinking it was a Pop song back in the 90's (and I hardly know any Pop, but I've got this tune in my head when I hear that title)?? I'm probably completely off, though.
Anyways, wow! From #1 to #21. That's amazing (not in a good way).

Are you thinking of the Ricky Martin song, "Living La Vida Loca" from 1999? lol

I need to copy that info to put on my "Chart Info" document I have on my computer (I'm turning into a geek). I have one more question if you don't mind. What year did BDS/Billboard start? That way, whenever I hear that a song broke a record for the BDS era, I will know how long that is.

Billboard switched over to BDS in 1990. Consequently, George Strait grabbed his first two multi-week #1's with "Love Without End, Amen" and "I've Come To Expect It From You", both of which spent 5 weeks at #1 in 1990.

I've been following since '98. I went from a country hater to a big time fan in a span of about 6 weeks. This spring will make 10 years for me. :)

Haha. I've only been following it since '03 or '04 so you're ahead of me. Well, I did listen to it a good bit then, but I didn't really actively follow it until pretty recently (and, I don't think I am quite as active as you are). By the posts I've seen on here, you still know a LOT more songs than I do.

I do remember that many radio stations would drop a song completely off their reported playlist the week after it peaked (regardless of the fact that they were still playing it on the air). The Hot 100 and R&B charts also saw an increasing turnover toward the latter half of the eighties, but nothing like what Country experienced. Amazing that only two singles were able to spend three weeks at #1 during the entire decade.

In the 90's, I also pretty much hated Country music (of course, back then, my age was still in the single digits), but then, I got the CMT channel when I got Dish network. I pretty much fell in love, and even started to like other songs that were released in the 90's.

Yeah, I used to hate the twang of country--the sound of the steel guitar and fiddle got on my nerves to no end. Oddly enough, I can't get enough of those instruments now. I love a good fiddle or steel guitar solo and I really appreciate a lot of the more traditional fare. Everything I once hated about country is what I now love. Go figure. lol

I pretty much like both Traditional Country music and Contemporary Country (though, the kind that is mostly on the radio now is Contemporary, which is a shame...I think radio should be more diverse). My favorite instrument is probably the acoustic guitar. I can be a sucker for good acoustic songs.

Yeah, I agree. Speaking of which, I really like Kenny's accoustic version of "When I Close My Eyes" on his "I Will Stand" album as well as Tim & Faith's accoustic performance of "I Need You", just to name a few. Both versions I feel are far superior to the regular versions, imho.

I went from a country hater to a big time fan in a span of about 6 weeks. Yeah, I basically went through the same thing. My favorite music was actually rap (if you can believe that) for 2-3 years before I started listening to country. It's funny - after five years, I can specifically remember two songs that brought me to country - "Don't Happen Twice" and "Playboys Of The Southwestern World." I don't know what it is about those two songs, but I'm sure glad I heard them.

Wow @ everyone hating country at one point. I was pretty much raised listening only to country, and I'm just now branching out into other formats.
