tbh I almost hope for it to be a slight publicity thing just because I don't want to believe that anyone can be that stupid to think that literally paying artists nothing during the free trial period was ever a good idea

The idea that this was a PR stunt is beyond insane. There's no way Apple would want so much negative attention by being made to look like a bully that needs to be persuaded to do the right thing. Never mind the fact they needed to put out a press release at 11pm EST on a Sunday to mitigate the damage. If they wanted good PR, they would've paid Taylor Swift to appear onstage at their keynote. But you don't generate backlash as a PR stunt; that's just reckless. Ever heard the saying "any publicity is good publicity?" Taylor is paired with Big Machine, and they're PR masters when it comes to miss Swift. Secondly, this doesn't make Apple look "bad" as much as it makes Taylor look like a saint who saved the industry with the snap of her fingers. If there's one thing Taylor's team has down to a science, it's getting her some (carefully orchestrated) publicity that always manages to make her look good. Does Apple really expect people to believe they changed their entire business plan in a matter of hours because of one artist? Taylor basically made this one big PR stunt with her open letter, and sudden "relenting" to put 1989 on Apple's service, which only gave her more publicity. Shocking.

Yea, makes perfect sense why the world's biggest company would be totally okay with looking like a pushover so Taylor could get some good PR. All for the greater good!
I have some Reynolds Wrap to sell to you.

Google just added free radio streaming, well it's ad supported but you hardly notice the ads. I wonder if that will affect how much they pay. Right now, they pay a lot better than the others. Free radio, plus the 50,000 songs you're allowed to upload and their high pay makes them a great choice. I love google play. I tried out Google Play after they added this and I am liking it too. They have a good collection of songs too.

Does Apple really expect people to believe they changed their entire business plan in a matter of hours because of one artist? Taylor basically made this one big PR stunt with her open letter, and sudden "relenting" to put 1989 on Apple's service, which only gave her more publicity. Shocking. - Taylor PR being good doesn't mean that Apple PR (known for being extremely conservative, careful, and controlling) would ever play along with something as dumb as this, particularly with conflict-averse Tim Cook at the helm. - Yeah, it absolutely makes Apple look bad. A 3/4 trillion company withholding money from indie artists and bullying them by threatening to pull them from the iTunes Store if they don't sign up for Apple Music? This could've easily been a PR disaster on the level of TIDAL. - Yes. The Taylor post absolutely exploded - it was practically top of the headlines - and you can be sure Tim Cook had a very timely meeting with Eddy Cue and the Apple Music team. Never mind the slow buildup of bad publicity as the indies spoke out against Apple Music... Taylor was the log that broke the camel's back. This whole thing didn't just suddenly come out of nowhere, and you can be sure changing the terms of the free trial had already been thoroughly discussed and considered. So taking action in just hours is completely believable, even after spending months with the majors negotiating the payment-free trial - after all, what record label would say no to more money? Although I'm sure it does happen, this one definitely isn't a big conspiracy. Apple made a mistake, and owned up to it before it blew up in their faces. It wasn't pretty, but seems to have done the trick. Apple doesn't need to resort to crazy guerrilla marketing at this point. To put it in perspective: the entire US music business did $11.83 billion in revenue last year, less than Apple makes in PROFIT every three months. Apple Music is just a bullet point on the box of the iPhone, there to drive hardware sales.

AC/DC's catalog will be part of the Apple Music catalog starting tomorrow, along with other streaming services including Spotify and Rdio: New York TimesDr. Dre's 1992 album The Chronic will also be available to stream tomorrow, but exclusively on Apple Music.

Who gives a f#ck about The Chronic. Where is that elusive Detox album he has been recording for the better part of a decade and a half. That would be a real exclusive.

Initial reviews is that it's ok..a little clunky but it did spit out an amazing Janet Jackson playlist (based on my prefs) called "Janet Jackson Ballads + Slo Jams"!

So, I wanted to check out this thing.
I went to Apple's website, found out I need iTunes 12.2 to use Apple Music. Next, I found out there is no update available and some people on Twitter say there will be no iTunes update until the fall.
So, uhm, I guess I will stick with Spotify and Deezer. I was looking forward to Beats 1 radio station.

I have tried Apple Music out on my iPad and it has been good for the most part. One issue I am noticing already is that you can search for certain songs and add them to a playlist and then when it gets to them, it won't play. Either those songs are unplayable (kind of like on Spotify) or it's a glitch.
I am waiting for the new version of iTunes for my PC so I can use it on that.

iTunes version 12.2 is now available to download for both Mac and PC.
ETA: It is pretty good. Certain buttons and whatnot could be kept together for a better interface, but it works quite well. I am super happy that the streams from Apple Music scrobble smoothly with Last.FM. :)

"Good For You" free falling right now on iTunes is probably the first clear impact of the new Apple Music on the charts.

I'd like to try it just because I love all things Apple. But...Spotify is ridiculously easy to use and intuitive. I'm not sure I could love Spotify more. Just reading this thread gives me a headache about setting up Apple Music.

Any guesses about Hot 100 impact? As a long time iTunes user this is completely changing my purchasing habits and I don't actually see why I'd even buy music again. I wonder if I'm an outlier or if other long term iTunes users will also change behavior.
Also does Beats 1 count as streaming or as actual radio?

Well I'm in love with Apple Music, I don't care how easy Spotify is to use. The fact that all my iTunes songs, purchases and now the store & streaming are all in one spot. It's just so nice and simple, and I'm loving the playlists and Beats radio.
I'm a fan!!!

for the most part I'll stick to spotify for now (mostly because I've already made a huge playlist there, and I don't really feel like moving over 1,350 songs over to the app) but I really like the beats 1 station so I'll usually use apple music for that for now

I'm not convinced Apple Music is good enough to make me switch from Rdio.
Positives: - I really like Beats 1 radio. Nice mix of hits and new music. - It's easy to add songs you like in Beats 1 to a playlist
Negatives: - Interface is confusing. Too many things together and not easy way to navigate - Managing playlists is complicated. Adding a song to a playlist takes two clicks, scrolling your playlists and another click. Compared that with just drag and drop in Rdio. A 40-song playlist will take 120 clicks and 40 scrollings. - No scrobbling - Some music missing. For example, the relatively new Tame Impala song is available in every streaming service but not in Apple Music - If you have a big library the iCloud Music Library doesn't work.
I think for now, I'll stick to Rdio and listen to Beats 1 which doesn't require a subscription.
