One of a handful of hits by Seville and the popular animated group in the late 50's, spending a few weeks at #1 in 1958.

I remember this one from early 1958. I think the chipmunk voice is actually David Seville's voice played at high speed. At the time, the identity of "The Chipmunks" had not yet been established. They threw that in when they made an oldie out of it years later. I have the original 45rpm record. This record was just credited as being by "David Seville". There is no mention of "Chipmunks' on the record. I never heard any mention of the Chipmunks until December 1958, when "The Chipmunk Song" came out. After "The Witchdoctor" David Seville made another record called "The Bird On My Head", which also has a sped up "Chipmunk" voice in it.

I thought Seville was pretty smart to employ this tactic of the Chipmunks' voices, and it's a pretty catchy song.
If I remember correctly, the 2007 version charted as well.
