"Loose Women" interview: Same ol', same ol'. Couple interesting tidbits, though: -Contrary to what was always reported, Simon Cowell wasn't at her wedding. (Not sure if that's something anyone cares about, tho? Moving on.) -When asked who else she'd like to work with outside of Country, she named Justin Timberlake. In the realm of British artists, she named Jessie J and Ed Sheeran. Ahhhh I've been saying forever that a Carrie/Justin Timberlake duet would be amazing! I really hope it happens one day!

So do I. A Carrie Underwood/Justin Timberlake duet would smash on EVERY format.

^^^That review sums it up better than I could ever and I've seen Carrie live 3 Times including a meet and greet. A British writer recognizing the CMA snubs and wondering how the best vocalist in country or arguably in any genre cannot seem to get rewarded for her songs or voice. Ah, but the writer might not be aware of all the politics in award shows or maybe he does. It just doesn't jive, Apple doesn't invite the latest 5 time vocalist to represent country in the UK, no, they invite Carrie. Why? They know better.

At this point I'm guessing the "Country to Country" shows will sort of be the kick-off to her tour... I have a feeling she'll do another world tour, and with a few mentions of Brazil, I wouldn't be shocked if she did a show or two in South America. She also has a VERY strong following in the Philippines, so if she hits up Australia again, I wouldn't be shocked to see a stop or two in the Philippines as well.

Watching the Apple Music Festival and she sounds so amazing! I also love how much confidence she has now, compared to a decade ago on Idol.
Side note: This back-up singer is abosultely dreadful...especially on Undo It. What does Carrie see in her?

I heard "Who Are You" on that new velvet channel on satellite radio (channel 13). Yes. I've always thought "Who Are You" was underrated. Has she ever performed that one live? It's an amazing vocal. I am generally one who defends Carrie from charges that she's a screamer, and I do so by making the case that she's a belter who modulates her volume and tone in ways that are more sensitive to the lyric than she's often given credit for by country listeners. But "Who Are You" is the one Carrie song where I cannot defend Carrie on interpretive grounds. The cadence of the song is all wrong for her and she just yells the song with little connection to the lyric -- it just doesn't sound to me like she knew how to deliver it. So "Who Are You" is, as far as I'm concerned, every bit as much of a mismatch for Carrie as "Man! I Feel Like a Woman!" was for her back on Idol. On the other hand, I watched Carrie's Apple Music set and thought she sounded really terrific. "I Told You So" and "Don't Forget to Remember Me" were special (and a great answer to anyone who has forgotten how naturally her country stylings come to her vocally), she sounded glorious on the acoustic beginning of "See You Again" (which will never be my favorite Carrie song) and delivered a nice moment with the mash-up as a whole, "I Know You Won't" remains a concert highlight, and "Flat on the Floor," "Little Toy Guns," "Two Black Cadillacs" and "Wasted" were great performances and "Last Name" was as playful as ever. "Smoke Break" comes off as a really comfortable song for Carrie live as well and it fit into her set seamlessly, again a reminder that this idea that Carrie is suddenly going twangier country is driven by her singles of the past few years, not her catalog as a whole. I don't like "Undo It" at all as a recording, but she riffs on it really well live. Some of the song arrangements sounded new to me and if they are at all indicative of a country/blues/rock tilt on Storyteller, that will land Carrie close to where I think her sweet spot is as an artist. I haven't seen Carrie live in a while, but the set also reminded me just how much she has come into her own as a live performer. The sequencing of the set was very smart, and helped her set to be a terrific encapsulation of her appeal and why she is country's best ambassador to the mainstream -- no matter the song, there's always something to remind the listener that she is a country singer, whether it's in the lyric, her vocal delivery, the instrumentation or some combination of the above. And so when she delivers so impressively live, one sort of has to appreciate her on her own merits, no matter what one's kneejerk assumptions about country may be. Her interest in everyday characters who aren't necessarily the go-to types for music in any mainstream genre is important and these days, distinctive. And she seemed to really enjoy herself up there on stage. All told, a really impressive set from Carrie and it's nice to see her in such great form going into a new album release.

And she seemed to really enjoy herself up there on stage. All told, a really impressive set from Carrie and it's nice to see her in such great form going into a new album release. Although Carrie is always (rightfully) appreciated for her voice, it seems like Carrie hasn't been appreciated for her artistic merits (especially since the "Blown Away" era), the way she should be. One could make the argument she isn't traditional Country and her material isn't always up to snuff, etc. but even when her weakness are considered, she's still shown more growth and awareness as an artist than most, and she's light-years ahead of most of her peers in Country music in that area as well. Artistry is about the music first, but Carrie is the type of artist who wants to (and should be), appreciated for her overall strength as a performer, singer and artist who can effortlessly go from Country Rock to pure Country to Pop and everything in between. It feels like everyone puts Carrie in a very narrow box, but her career thus far has proven that's exactly where she doesn't deserve to be. Her music may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I respect her approach to push herself and not allow her genre to define her. That has allowed her to show different sides of herself that are all equally worthy of showcasing. Carrie knows exactly what her audience wants, but she also knows exactly how to please people who may be casual fans of hers and wouldn't necessarily see her live show or pick up an album. That (to me) is much more impressive than Carrie boxing herself into one genre, because a) doing that would likely not bring so many different types of people into her corner and b) it wouldn't allow her to explore so many different sides of herself, which is what she seems to really love. The way she has been able to carve her own path by staying loyal to Country music (but being careful to never label herself), and not being afraid to push her own boundaries has been extremely smart. She's built off of her talent in an extremely savvy way as time has passed, and I think that's worked extremely well for her. She seems to pay attention to some of the criticism she receives, and the way that she has slowly matured over time has been really interesting to watch. If she had allowed her label to do what they wanted with her, I don't think her confidence, diversity and growth would be anywhere near where's it's at right now.

It would be great if they tried to break her here

A few big websites are talking about it. It's so nice that she herself talked about us. I have two friends who have seen her in different situations and her reaction when they told her they were Brazilians was great in both.

I was just thinking, is anyone else secretly hoping that "Mexico" will be that summertime jam that will actually get released as a single? Something along the lines of "One Way Ticket", but maybe less polarizing (although I really enjoyed that one).

I think you and I were one of the few here who really felt OWT could have been huge. Carrie has yet to have a summer single; in the sense that the topic of the song and the sound is "summery". I would love to see how a purely summer-themed song would do for her.
