WTF! This is flopping. What could Carrie's team have done differently? This is a great album. I would hardly call this flopping. It's her 6th consecutive top 2 all-genre album and #1 country album and it's getting great reviews. Album sales, unless you're Taylor Swift or Adele these days really are terrible. 167k is like 350-400k these days. She'll scan platinum for sure.

WTF! This is flopping. What could Carrie's team have done differently? This is a great album. Wait, what? Is this sarcasm? The drop from 177k to 53k would be ~70% drop, and 164k to 47k would be ~72%... Both drops are quite average, and will likely decrease due to the CMAs (as HDD hinted might happen in their update). I don't think this is "flopping"... I think it's a little too early to determine that, and it doesn't appear to be acting like a flop...

For a new CEO and a highly-anticipated return to the scene, the promo hasn't been amazing this year at all. Hopefully the CMAs will help spike the album an extra 6-7k copies and get her the #1.

I think they kept Carrie as busy as they could without keeping her away from home too long. She's in a very different situation this time around so she can't just be away from home for weeks at a time. I think this is reflective, too, in their tour dates (how they're spread out differently with multiple days off at a time). I think the promo was pretty great, but they could have benefitted from an extra appearance here and there. The CMAs will surely give "Storyteller" a nice boost, it'll be the single largest audience "Smoke Break" will be performed for. I definitely think a Target commercial airing for a week or two could have helped a bunch... But overall I think they did a pretty good job.

Yeah I wouldn't say this is a flop at all. But I do hope she trends upward because that could be a big drop, especially during CMA week, for an already less than stellar opening.

At midweek, Now 56 looks likely to take the #1 spot on both the album and SPS charts this Friday. Wednesday night’s CMA Awards may be prove to be a wild card, as Carrie Underwood hosts and performs. Can her Storyteller album, in its second week, benefit enough from the show to overtake Now for #1? Here’s how it looks at midweek. *Now 56 (NOW/UMe) 54-59k Sales, 54-59k SPS Carrie Underwood (19/Arista Nashville) 42-47k, 48-53k*Def Leppard (Mailboat) 24-27k, 25-28k *We Love Disney (Walt Disney) 20-24k, 22-26k *The Neighbourhood (Columbia) 20-24k, 23-27k 5 Seconds of Summer (Capitol) 19-23k, 25-28k *Chris Janson (Warner Bros. Nashville) 16-20k, 18-23k Kidz Bop 29 (Razor & Tie) 16-19k, 17-20k *Elvis Presley (RCA) 16-19k 17-20k Blake Shelton (Warner Bros. Nashville) 15-18k, 19-22k The Weeknd (XO/Republic) 15-18k, 45-50k Taylor Swift (Big Machine/BMLG) 15-18k, 28-31k Pentatonix (RCA) 15-18k, 19-22k Andrea Bocelli (Verve) 12-15k, 13-16k Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville) 12-15k, 17-20k ... Pardon me while I go ahead and drain my bank account by buying copies of "Storyteller" for everyone I know. Y'all should do the same, in addition to streaming the s**t out of this album. So help me God if Carrie gets blocked from #1 by a compilation album. Thanks for posting! WOW 5SOS's fall looks massive. It really isn't about the first week sales or the number one album. It's about longevity. Something Carrie always has and I hope continues to have.

Kimmel is doing a CMA edition of Mean Tweets for his show tomorrow. Considering Carrie was just on there, expect her to be one of the people featured. Also, I'm not sure if it was mentioned yet, but "Something in the Water" was named one of ASCAP's Songs of the Year. ETA: Also, more chart stuff came out. Storyteller debuts at #3 in Canada, #1 on Canadian Country Albums. Other songs from the album that made an impact: "Heartbeat" - #26 on Hot Country Songs (HCS), #23 on Bubbling Under Hot 100, and #80 in Scotland. "What I Never Knew I Always Wanted" - #32 on HCS "Renegade Runaway" - #34 on HCS *"The Girl You Think I Am" - #26 Country Digital, #38 HCS *"Like I'll Never Love You Again" - #25 Country Digital, #39 HCS *"Dirty Laundry" - #47 HCS *"Relapse" - #49 Country Digital, #48 HCS *"Church Bells" - #49 HCS *Don't have the sales totals for these yet. For the week ending on October 30, 2015: "Smoke Break" sold another 19,000, leading it to a sales total of 239,000. "Renegade Runaway" debuted with 13,000 sold. "What I Never Knew I Always Wanted" debuted with 9,000 sold. "Heartbeat" sold an additional 8,000, leading it to a total of 31,000 sold. [Thanks to Roughstock for the sales deets.] ... aaaaaand lastly, some LQ pictures from her upcoming December Cosmo spread. "Country's biggest chameleon reveals her true colors." <333 Happy holidays, y'all.

I posted the sales numbers for the other tracks on the previous page, also thanks to Roughstock. Also, RR and WINKIAW already debuted previously. They just have negative figures on this week's chart, thus you'll only see the total. This is due to the "Complete my album" feature of iTunes. For people who bought the advance tracks individually like I did (not as an album pre-order), when I 'complete my album,' it's considered a return of the tracks and a purchase of the album.
I definitely do NOT think the album is flopping. This year to date, Meghan Trainor is the only solo female in any genre who has had a bigger opening week. Carrie's numbers beat Selena, Demi, Madonna, Janet, Kelly, etc. I don't have the charts on hand now but exact figures are easy to dig up and compare. Of course Adele will slap everyone silly, but that's Adele.
I wasn't even surprised at the numbers. Honest to God. I expected them because of Smoke Break's underperformance + the general dismal album sales environment. There's a reason Pulsers pay much more attention now to the Hot 100 than the BB200. Album sales are in the crapper. Look no further than this week's projected chart. An album with 59k SPS may top the chart. 59k!

Looks like they're going for that #1. Storyteller is $5.99 on iTunes.

I'm nervous for the CMAs tonight. If Miranda wins FVOTY again I will scream.
Also, Carrie just lost Video of the Year to Maddie & Tae's "Girl In a Country Song". They just announced it on Good Morning America. :(

When asked for her choice of album track to play during the interview, she picked Choctaw... again. She also picked Choctaw when Blair Garner and gang were interviewing her. Who wants to bet that was her choice for lead single? ME!!!

It looks more like this album will end up in the 700-800K range, although this can change.

I'm not worried about Carrie's album sales at all. She's always been known for her longevity more than for her opening weeks, and the CMA's and upcoming promo should give her a big boost. Honestly, I didn't expect much with the performance of "Smoke Break," but I don't doubt she can bounce back quickly with her second single. That Jason White interview is fantastic; it's so great to see songwriters who fly under the radar a bit find some success again. I love that White was so appreciative of Carrie's take and comments regarding 'Choctaw' because you can tell it comes from a genuine place of humble pride. I think the bridge of Choctaw is quite possibly becoming my favorite Carrie moment on record. Well, the press went wild on the day of the trial When they put us on the witness stand They thought we'd turn on each other, but soon they all discovered We were live-or-die, hand in hand And that fancy D.A. from down Jackson way Said he'd see us in the electric chair, ha
But the foreman of the jury told me "honey, don't you worry" It's a Choctaw county affair, yeah (Choctaw County affair)

hitsdailydouble.com/building_album_chartSold 23k as of 6pm yesterday, with the NOW compilation having sold 34k. We'll get a better feel for how #1 is looking tomorrow morning after the $5.99 deal + CMA promo has taken a lot of effect tonight. Edit: LOL, surprise! Eric Church FC members woke up to his new album out of the blue. Don't know if it's going for sale tonight during/after the show, but it won't bode well for Carrie if it does.

Don't know if it would make sense to release it with only one day of sales left in the week?... But if he wins Entertainer, it might be a genius move on his part to have an new album available with all the massive buzz he'd receive. BUT, would he be able to sell 50K+ in one day? Idk... Interesting, to say the least. Fingers crossed he holds off until Friday.

I don't think the CMAs performance will help her out much; "Smoke Break" just clearly isn't a song that drives sales. I think it sounds good on the radio and people like to hear it, but that doesn't mean it spurs them to make a purchase. I think a win for Female Vocalist would help sales more than the performance, actually, due to the exposure on the show and then subsequent press coverage.

Is that really a bridge? It has the same melody as the other verses.

Frankly I don't see Carrie passing the NOW collection since the difference looks too great, so Eric's sales don't matter at this point apart from possibly costing her another week at #1 on country albums.
Anyway, what is Eric's new/current single from the new album? Do people know it well? His last album opened with 288,000 so he can definitely move some albums, but it also had more of a proper release cycle.

He just dropped the entire album to his fanclub yesterday. It looks like he'll debut the single from the new album tonight and then the whole album and single will be released tomorrow. Eric typically sells pretty well I believe. I don't know if he can do 50k in one day though

The difference in streaming was only 6k, I think, so definitely not impossible. And I don't think HDD would have mentioned the CMAs if they were 100% Carrie couldn't pull it off.
