Just a random thought, and not likely but I'll share it anyway. The singles from the last era went in order of the tracks on the album (tracks 1-4 were singles).
With Storyteller, "Smoke Break" is track #5 and "Heartbeat" is track #4. Perhaps they are going in reverse order this time? Which would mean the following singles would go:
3. Church Bells (track 3) 4. Dirty Laundry (track 2) 5. Renegade Runaway (track 1)
Not a bad lineup if you ask me. Although I think "Choctaw County Affair" is a likely single, and maybe a better option than "Church Bells".

I hope they ignore "Renegade Runaway" and go for better options. "Dirty Laundry" and "Relapse", please.
Grammy nominations are 1 week away.

"Relapse" is by far the song I continuously revisit on the album.
Singles should go: SB HB Dirty Laundry or Church Bells (one or the other...I think both would be too much) Relapse
But lbr the singles will go SB HB Renegade Runaway WINKIAW or maybe CCA

I would really love for "Relapse" to get a release. It's holding up so well for me. Some of the other "obvious" single choices have burned out on me a bit, but I love "Relapse" more and more every time I listen to it.

"Relapse" would do fine on country radio, considering most stuff isn't really "country" these days anyway. Her label would be smart to release "Chaser" and "Relapse" to pop/AC, but we know that will never happen.

Relapse was my favorite from the very beginning and it remains my fave to this day, along with Chaser. Both are long shots to be singles, but with the 2 single choices so far, it's obvious that I'll continue looping album tracks for my personal listening pleasure. With just 2 sure single slots left, I'm not even sure they'll release Choctaw. I think Storyteller might just be the Carrie album that will make me head-scratch the most. An excellent album with brilliant production and a lot of fresh, unique songs and songwriting with standout vocals... and then the label chooses to release back-to-back the most laid-back-sounding songs that require the most minimal vocal effort from Carrie. It's like holding back a racehorse and telling her to just keep pace with all the other lesser horses. Goodman, what's good?

03. Dirty Laundry 04. Choctaw Country Affair 05. What I Never Knew I Always Wanted Please no WINKIAW as a single. In my opinion, it's the weakest track on the album. I'd prefer any other song on the album as a single to be honest. I consider it the "Mama's Song" of this album. A lot better, but still the weakest of this album that shouldn't be a single.

Saw the clip on "Today"... ehhh, Carrie's makeup is a little raccoon-ish, but they didn't show enough at all to have an opinion about the video yet. It looks okay, though.

Vids out. 15$ budget, LMAO. She's giving a lot of sex faces and moves though. I'm so confused. I like the idea behind it: simple, sensual, elegant; however, the staging isn't great tbh.

They're trying to sell sexy Carrie. I get that, I do, but if you had thrown Mike in the mix it would've been so much damn better. Passionate looks, dancing, a kiss - all would've made this a well executed idea.

^ all he had to do was show up at the very end! Then I could have pretended during the rest of the video she had been waiting there for him and it would have worked. But just Carrie & fireflies. No

Had the potential to be amazing. AMAZING. I was picturing Carrie and Mike playing out the details of the song. Instead, Carrie's alone in the woods looking sexy for no one and playing with fireflies? SMH. WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY DOING TO THIS ERA!?

Tbh, I think Carrie is phoning it in LOL. I adore her, everyone knows that, but you don't litter a song with imagery (however cliche) and end up with... that.
EDIT: Ok. Upon rewatching I'm warming up. She just looks so damn good and her sensuality is present throughout even though it's not your typical sexy. Plus, that intro where she's humming is incredible. I think that's what disappointed me - the start was so damn good. She looks like a river/moon goddess though haha.

I think that's what disappointed me - the start was so damn good. She looks like a river/moon goddess though haha. I was thinking they'd go with the "Mama's Song" approach; the scenes where Carrie's head is upon Mike's shoulder in the car - that's the kind of stuff I was imagining here. Because she's done it before, I didn't think I was hoping for too much. Carrie looks beautiful, and the simplicity is nice. But like you said, the song is littered with imagery; so much so that you'd almost expect the video to act out the imagery. However, Carrie has always taken a simplistic/interpretational approach with her videos - leaving them up to the interpretation of the viewer. Perhaps she had that in mind when making this? I don't think Carrie "phoned it in", as that's something Carrie just doesn't do. I mean, she's made three trips to Europe in the past few months to promote her new album. I think there's strategy behind the concept of the video - it just comes across as underwhelming when you think of the imagery of the song.

She has provided the setting (and what a setting it is) use your imagination for the rest. Carrie and Mike are very private people particularly Mike.. And this is the most sexually suggestive I have seen of Carrie. And I think it's just the right amount.

Upon a couple re-watches, I am rather quickly growing to love it. Carrie interprets the song so well with her subtle dance movies and facial expressions. I do believe the goal here was to let fans interpret the song and video however they wish, I think they accomplished that. I would have preferred a "Mama's Song" approach, but I think the video serves its purpose, overall. The last scenes with the moon are absolutely stunning. Carrie pulls this off with her beauty... one of a kind!
