No amount of beauty in the world can make up for such a boring video. Easily the worst she's ever done.

^^I agree, they left it up to the audience's imagination to interpret the video. I can't wait for the DL video.

I mean, it's a Mariah Carrie video. There's not really many directions you can take with a song like "Heartbeat." Hopefully they're saving her budget for "Choctaw County Affair."
The choreography in the last minute is kind of gorgeous though. Someone make me an icon.

I'd disagree, simply because there were at least other things to watch in the video. If anything, it appealed to people who enjoy spending hours on YouTube watching soldier homecomings. (So, hormonal teens and emotional grandmothers). There's just...nothing redeeming about this video, IMO. I seriously hope she didn't just shoot herself in the foot by pairing an uneventful video with an uneventful second single.

Yeah, the video is quite disappointing. I like that she was giving off a more sultry/sexy vibe in this one, although parts of seemed a bit...forced. I think Carrie is someone who is just naturally sexy without needing to move her fingers through her hair or trying to "act" it. I don't know, but I did enjoy that she changed up the vibe a bit.
However, they really needed to do more with this video. Carrie's part was fine, but there should have been more to the video than that. No need to have Mike in another video of hers, it would seem repetitive. Just have her as the narrator with another couple acting out scenes (in a car together driving at night together while holding hands, making out in a field under the moon, whatever). It just wasn't enough.

Oooh! HDD midweek calls are in, and Storyteller has an overwhelmingly large lead for returning to #1 on Top Country Albums, with 43-47k. Blake Shelton's GH set is second with 25-28k. She'll return to the top 10 on the 200. As long as they keep promo steady, she could remain in the top 2 through the year's end. The only other major Country release left is Cam's Untamed on 12/11, who I'm sure will be prioritized by Arista to get to #1 (since she's on the same label as Carrie).

I know it's been only a month, but considering how rather quiet it has been for Carrie, these numbers are absolutely fantastic! Does that estimate account for SPS as well? I'm on my phone, so I can't check for myself at the moment. Well, I could but I'm too lazy lol. Thanks!

Definitely solid numbers, as even if she trends lower on the predictions, it'll still put her at over 350k sold. She's got some promo coming up with the American Country Countdown 10 Stories Of the Year Awards But Not Awards 2015 or whatever thing on Fox next week, that Grammy Sinatra tribute thing, and if all goes well *fingers crossed*, a Grammy nom(s) on Monday.

That video is just .... this is a love song. Where is the romance? Dancing with fireflies?! I guess she'll say it's artsy like SITW. Just very disappointing.

I'm almost afraid to watch the video now, after reading all the comments.
Tbh, I wasn't a fan of SITW or LTG video as well. Were they all by Randee too? Smoke Break video was just ok.

Would anyone care to post/create an updated promo list? I got a new planner and I'm trying to write down Carrie's appearances but I cannot remember dates/times to save my life. Thanks! :)

Haven't seen the video yet, but overall I'm just bored with this era singles-wise so far. I get why they released "Heartbeat" and I know it appeals to a lot of people, I just don't happen to be one of them so I kind of wish we could just fast-forward to single #3. The era just feels a bit... underwhelming so far. Which is extra disappointing considering how overall fantastic the album is.

I LOVE the video.
I know why you guys hate the video, but i think they just want to show Carrie's beauty and sexiness this time. I love how she dances a little bit in the video towards the end. I love how beautiful she looks and how angelic she seems. I love the dress. I love her hair.
Maybe at one point reaching the song's peak at radio, Carrie and her team will make and release a duet version with Sam Hunt to radio and alternative video with SHIRTLESS Sam Hunt. Country music will go crazy for this version.

No Sam Hunt please. Just get this to peak quickly and move along to Single #3 please.
If the 3rd single is Renegade Runaway, this era will officially be dead to me.

Imagine if, like Play On, the pre-release tracks are also the singles...but in that specific order... already pre-determined by the label... who doesn't care if Carrie said WINKIAW was too personal for her to sing live. Then all the bloody brilliant songs will remain album tracks. I shudder at the thought. Then, imagine Carrie getting a performance slot at the Grammys and singing Heartbeat again because it will still be climbing at country radio. Half-joking aside, it's really sad that I and majority of my favorite fellow Carrie stans have been so underwhelmed with the way this era has been going so far... and the kicker is Storyteller is one of her best, if not the best, albums!

I'm willing to bet that it's the next single, which I honestly don't mind since it's one of my favorites. It would make sense to have an uptempo during the spring/leading into the summer. She'll probably perform it at the ACM Awards in April.

Re: the "Heartbeat" video, even if some stans like it because it shows a new side of Carrie or whatever, that isn't something that will appeal to a broader audience. Most people aren't paying that close attention to whether she's done these poses/dances before. Most people are going to tune out partway through the video because there isn't anything interesting happening visually or in terms of a story line. The "Mariah Carrie" description is amazing Typo.

Those are the new ones she performed at the iHeartRadio premiere, along with "Smoke Break" and "Heartbeat". Carrie seems to really love CCA, as she's performed it every chance she's had. Even when she had an interview with NASH FM in NYC when they asked her which track from her album she'd like to play, she chose CCA. Sadly, that would leave "Church Bells" as an album track, but I am kind of glad that 2 murder songs wouldn't be released. However, since they seem to be going for international promo this time around, it would be really cool if "Relapse" were released an international single only (UK, Australia, Japan, etc). It's more pop-friendly and a fan favorite, so why not give it some exposure?

Well, I think the "Heartbeat" video is lovely and like the "Carrie as nymph" treatment. I was one who didn't think that "Heartbeat" offered much in the way of video possibilities, so the video lands on the more visually arresting side of what I was expecting, fake backdrops notwithstanding. While I'm registering minority opinions...I like "Relapse," but for whatever reason, I'm not connecting with it and it's not a song that I find myself returning to on the album. I do think that the pre-chorus is absolutely killer and that "Relapse" is a great showcase of Carrie's flair for melodic drama, newly channeled through romantic angst. But the central metaphor (love as addiction) is overdone, the song lyrics don't add anything to the metaphor, the lyrical hook/last line of the chorus feels a bit weak to me and overall, the lyrics don't strike me as particularly interesting or artful. I do hear how it's a compelling recording and a potential hit though, so basically, I land with "Relapse" where I do on "Heartbeat." The songs I find myself returning to the most on Storyteller are "Choctaw County Affair," "Like I'll Never Love You Again," "Dirty Laundry," "Church Bells" and "Chaser." "Chaser" is by far the most musically and lyrically interesting pure pop/rock song Carrie has done, I think -- I found the last bit of it a little too bellow-y at first, but now, I'm fully sold on the full song (and I agree with everyone who loves the bridge). I also love listening to "The Girl You Think I Am" and "What I Never Knew I Always Wanted" -- neither is all that interesting lyrically (and the couplet that serves as the bridge on "The Girl You Think I Am" is distractingly weak), but they work well enough on that level (each has its moments, for instance, "You told me I'd take the world by storm/Mama said you cried all the way home" on "The Girl You Think I Am"), while the respective melodies & conviction in Carrie's voice make them winners. The more I listen to "Renegade Runaway," the less I think that it would be a good single choice (I have a feeling the chorus would hold the song back in research) but I still really, really like it as an album opener. As for singles, I remember someone somewhere speculating that each Storyteller producer would get a single, and I'm on board with that theory. Jay Joyce and Zach Crowell have had their singles, and I'll be surprised if Mark Bright doesn't get one, which means that one of "Church Bells," "The Girl You Think I Am," "Clock Don't Stop," "Mexico" and "What I Never Knew I Always Wanted" is likely to be a single. Of those, I think "Church Bells" is likeliest to be a single. I don't rule out "The Girl You Think I Am," though I would rather it get a nice lyric video treatment to mark Fathers Day or something like that. I also don't rule out "What I Never Knew I Always Wanted" as a single possibility. But on the logic that Carrie usually releases at least one awards Grammy-baity single and based on how Spotify streams are stacking up so far (more on that in a moment), I think that "Church Bells" remains the likeliest single out of the Mark Bright-produced group. For what it's worth, the Carrie singles that picked up the most Mediabase-detected new airplay during the week of Storyteller's release were "Heartbeat," "Church Bells" and "Choctaw County Affair." Maybe "Renegade Runaway," too, I don't remember. But this may mean little more than those were the songs that received airplay on syndicated radio specials meant to promote Storyteller. As noted by ant, at Carrie's iHeartRadio album release show, the new songs she played were "Renegade Runaway," "Heartbeat," "Dirty Laundry," and "Choctaw County Affair." I think it's clear that Carrie wants to showcase "Choctaw County Affair," which I'm fully behind (especially because she absolutely nails it live). I would love to see that song get the single, video and prime time live performance treatment. Anyway, I had posted Storyteller Spotify and YouTube streams a few weeks ago in the "Heartbeat" thread in the Country forum, so I thought that I would post an Spotify update here from yesterday, including day-to-day streaming pickup in parentheses. "Heartbeat" has been the streaming leader among album tracks by a healthy margin, so I'm not surprised it was the second single pick. "Relapse" has made some headway up the list, perhaps helped by Kelsea Ballerini's inclusion of the song on her AMA playlist. "Renegade Runaway" and "Church Bells" were the second and third most streamed album tracks in daily pickup yesterday, though "Relapse," "What I Never Knew I Always Wanted" and "Dirty Laundry" were not far behind. "Renegade Runaway" 1,307,186 (+12,189) "Dirty Laundry" 722,439 (+10,175) "Church Bells" 759,184 (+11,415) "Heartbeat" 2,455,982 (+32,431) "Smoke Break" 8,030,338 (+77,975) "Choctaw County Affair" 586,309 (+7,887) "Like I'll Never Love You Again" 586,063 (+8,324) "Chaser" 610,070 (+8,753) "Relapse" 719,058 (+10,903) "Clock Don't Stop" 564,441 (+8,832) "The Girl You Think I Am" 633,149 (+9,306) "Mexico" 475,355 (+6,648) "What I Never Knew I Always Wanted" 826,984 (+10,712) ETA: Spotify numbers from this morning, with daily increase in parentheses:"Renegade Runaway" 1,319,531 (+12,345) "Dirty Laundry" 732,257 (+9,818) "Church Bells" 770,811 (+11,627) "Heartbeat" 2,489,859 (+33,877) "Smoke Break" 8,116,428 (+86,090) "Choctaw County Affair" 594,322 (+8,013) "Like I'll Never Love You Again" 594,185 (+8,122) "Chaser" 618,687 (+8,617) "Relapse" 730,154 (+11,456) "Clock Don't Stop" 572,213 (+7,772) "The Girl You Think I Am" 642,471 (+9,322) "Mexico" 482,004 (+6,649) "What I Never Knew I Always Wanted" 837,618 (+10,634)

Just the thought of that happening, and reading Dudley's post about different producers getting singles treatment, were enough to depress me about this era lol. The singles last era were so on-point! (yes, eventhough there should have been five)
