This was the second single from his debut album, "Doo-Wops & Hoolingans." It was written and produced by The Smeezingtons. It peaked at #1 at CHR/Pop, #1 on the Hot 100 and #1 in the UK. The lyrics were a bit dramatic, but I liked this a lot.

This song is amazing. It's my favorite Bruno track, with "Gorilla" not far behind it.
This one, "Gorilla", and "Liquor Store Blues" are the only three songs of his I like enough to listen to, to be honest.

This is one of the only tracks I dislike from him (When I Was Your Man and The Lazy Song come to mind as the others). It just sounds so whiny.

I don't care for Bruno's first album or it's singles. So this is a NOPE from me. He's gotten progressively better with each album, love him now.

This is what turned me into a fan of his. I've grown to like "Just The Way You Are" now over time, but "Grenade" was totally instant for me. I got the album because of this, and it quickly became a favourite of mine.

This was one of those songs that I sort of liked when it came out, but couldn't stand after excessive radio/video play. It's alright now.
I prefer the Hooligans remix, though:

I really liked this then, but it had a very high burn rate for me.

I never liked this all that much and, although in my library, I never listen to it anymore. Way too dramatic and annoying. That said... I prefer the Hooligans remix, though: ...this is my first time hearing this version and it actually made me sort of re-discover the song, so thanks for posting!

I really liked this then, but it had a very high burn rate for me. I feel that about a lot of his music for some reason. Literally "Just The Way You Are" is the only song that I can bear right now except a few cuts from his new album.

This was fine, but it got old quickly. I didn't really care for most of what I heard from his first album. Other than his features on "Nothin' on You" and "Billionaire", I didn't really like his music until "It Will Rain".

Couldn't stand this song then, still can't now. His worst single by a good measure. At least "The Lazy Song" is fun.

Before last year, I absolutely hated this song. Even then it's still one of his worst songs

Loved it for some reason back in the day. Can't really listen to it anymore, it's just so boring.

It's so weird going back to this song and his other old hits and first album after seeing Bruno's development as an artist, his two albums that followed his debut were a lot more retro inspired and upbeat. I remember critics in 2011 called him out for being boring and a big crybaby because of Grenade, It Will Rain, and other songs at the time. Now he's only had uptempo hits, I don't think he's had a midtempo hit since When I Was Your Man which was 5 years ago.
Bruno Mars is an interesting artist to say the least, can't wait to see where his next record leads

Love this song. I'm a sucker for melodramatic lyrics carried by a strong vocal performance, so I never saw this song as whiny to any extent.

Really loved this! Not as high as my appreciation for "Just The Way You Are", but still one of the better and more career-defining songs off Bruno.

Wow, I almost forgot about this song- I think it's because I've rarely ever heard it on the radio after it left the charts. Even "The Lazy Song" gets a lot more recurrent play in my area. Anyway, I liked it when it came out and still like it now, but he's had so many huge songs since that it got lost in the shuffle.
