Tagging "one hit wonder" on an artist still charting even when its "obvious" is not always accurate.

I knew PSY was NOT going to be a 1 hit wonder, it was pretty obvious he was NOT going to be one, Gentlemen was a pretty big hit too, its just that Gangnam Style was much much bigger
Same with Meghan Trainor, Lips Are Moving was a hit too, but she will never be known as the Lips Are Movin singer, she will only be known as the All About That Bass singer because AATB was a much much bigger hit

I am sure if we went back and forth long enough, we could find an example of an artist that you or people in this thread thought was an "obvious one hit wonder" that ended up having a second hit.
Either that or the process that we have here of labeling artists with current top 5 hits as one hit wonders, is flawless.

I knew PSY was NOT going to be a 1 hit wonder, it was pretty obvious he was NOT going to be one I don't think that's a fair or accurate statement, tbh Not sure ANY artist is an "obvious one hit wonder", especially while they are still charting high with single #1. Many artists in the past that this board has tagged that phrase to have come back with hit #2, Gotye was an obvious 1 hit wonder, wasnt he? and has he come back yet? nope, and he never will Well no, he probably won't.. But remember that Jason Mraz was a one-hit wonder for five years before he got a second hit. And that's just a moderate example.

Streaming made the chart slower than usual but streaming is indeed the growing way to consume music. It makes the chart boring for us chart geeks but that's how it is, people don't get tired of the songs on top of the chart that fast

My Way is #1 on iTunes and looking like it POSSIBLY might not be coming down from there anytime soon...there's a second version of it in the top 100 giving it a decent lead over Cheerleader...could this song prove Fetty to not be a one-hit wonder?

I don't consider Gentleman to be a big hit at all. It collapsed within like 2 weeks. As far as I'm concerned it is the streaming equivalent of an instant grat.

Not sure ANY artist is an "obvious one hit wonder", especially while they are still charting high with single #1. Many artists in the past that this board has tagged that phrase to have come back with hit #2, I was so sure that DJ Snake would end up being a one hit wonder with 'Turn Down for What' and we know what has happened since.. I will still be predicting just for the fun of it but will also always admit I'm wrong. There's no harm in predicting, it's how you deal with it afterwards.

Well I guess that means you have as many Hot 100 #1's as Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj and One Direction combined! Congratulations!

Nah. Didn't they hit number one with Party Rock Anthem? They don't count.

I think 679 is well on its way to prove that he isn't. My Way might make it a third. And don't sleep on Around the World. He's featured on Natalie La Rose's track and after hearing it once, realized this could be a hit as well. Now will he have longevity might prove to be the better question.

side note: I'm starting to doubt the chances of "Lean On" hitting the top 10 :( I forgot this wasn't a top 10 yet... it feels like it's been everywhere, more inescapable than the Weeknd's songs at least, for example. Could just be my own personal bubble, but I would've thought this was a shoo-in for top 10. (And I don't even really like the song!)

Yes I want back the days when airplay was counted based on playlists and only cd single sales were included...
Manually submitted playlists are less accurate and can be manipulated.
As far as singles sales, we could do that today, the current top 5 on Hot 100 Singles Sales (7/25 chart)
1. Buy Me A Boat - Chris Janson (debuted at #1) 2. Raising Hell - Josh Graham 3. Sirens - Sublime With Rome 4. Livin' In A Small Town - Sixth Generation 5. Sauce - Lil' George
Anyone heard of these?
I've heard of that one. Unfortunately.

House Lannister how do you know Lean On dropped in streaming? Or are you just guessing? You know when it dropped from 13-18? That was due to streaming dropping from 11 to 22 on Billboard's chart. Now it's out of the top 25 altogether. Maybe there's another area of streaming that I'm missing altogether and that would be cool if that was the case. But if it's not, Lean On is gaining now pretty much due to radio and, to a lesser extent, sales.

Really hope "Lean On" eventually makes at least one week in the top. Easily the best song of the year imo.
