I know it's a short clip, but wow does that just ever disappoint and curb my enthusiasm for this new song. Here's hoping by tomorrow my opinion will be much different.

Gonna wait and hear more, but that clip is mildly concerning to me. Bit too electronic.

I really wish they would have released "City Lights" as the next single, but I guess if Tim is gonna keep cranking out new music like he has been recently this move made sense. Maybe if Diamond Rings and Old Barstools would have went #1 they would have released another single to keep the momentum going? I'm not sure. City Lights and Shotgun rider have very similar vibes and they're in the same key so it also makes sense not to release it.
Anyways my thoughts on this song after the first listen. I'm not too impressed. It's not as awful as Lookin' For That Girl but the production is very similar with the drum loops and synthesizers. No auto tune as far as I could hear thank God. Lyrically you could argue it's bro-country I guess, but I'm not even gonna get into that. Very R&B and Soul too in terms of it's vibe. What's up with that trend lately?
It'll probably do pretty well though since it's Tim. Maybe the label will pull it early like Lookin' For That Girl to release something country-er? I'm sure the album will be fine and this is the "bad song" like Lookin' For That Girl was on the last album.

I like it a lot, too. I don't love it like Shotgun Rider, Diamond Rings or One Of Those Nights, but it's cool. I don't understand the comparisons to Lookin' For That Girl. We just can't seem to get past that...

This keeps his trend of having some more "modern" production techniques on lead singles from albums but overall it's straight-up Tim McGraw. It's NOT "Lookin' For That Girl" or even "Truck Yeah." It takes sonic risks but doesn't lose the traditional sounds from McGraw's voice, the vocal phrasing and even most of the production. Yes, there are loops (to be expected given songwriters) but it's not egregious unless one thinks modern percussive elements should never be in a country song. Eh, I'm not really feeling this. For me this is worse than every track on Sundown Heaven Town except for "Lookin' For That Girl".
The lyrics are decent, but the production leaves a lot to be desired. This could have been a really good country song. Instead this is a pop-infused country-esque song. This also doesn't feel like a lead single. It doesn't really pack a punch or stick in my mind for long after I listen to it. It's just kinda there.
Very safe song. Easy #1.

I like this song, but I don't love it. At least not yet, anyways. It is not another "Lookin' For That Girl" or "Truck Yeah." But, some of the loops have sneaking similarities to "Lookin' For That Girl." They are not overpowering by any means. I keep wanting to say it is like a cross between "Lookin' For That Girl" and "Diamond Rings and Old Barstools." But then, every time I say that, it doesn't match up. It's definitely not another bro song, but it has a freshness that allows Tim to stretch boundaries stylistically (Maybe not as much as he did on either of the last two lead singles) and still be a good Tim song. I would give it a 7/10 rating whereas "Lookin' For That Girl" would have gotten a 4/10 and "Truck Yeah" a 5/10.

Well, it's not "Lookin' For That Girl" but it also sure as hell ain't "Diamond Rings". It's alright. Might grow on me. But there were much better (radio friendly) tracks on 'Sundown Heaven Town'.

But after hearing how the crowd at his show this summer sings Diamond Rings, I was hoping they'd see that as a sign to whip out something really country.

Heard this tonight on the Big Time with Whitney Allan and my first thought this song sounds so similar to another one of Tim's hits and I can't quite put it down. Second thought meh not bad but I hope the album is better.

He starts with "we're going to play some country music for you".

I don't know if it got the biggest reaction at my show, but I was certainly surprised at how many people seemed to love it. I mean these were people who were previously dancing to Billy Currington's version of "Uptown Funk", then singing to a classic country tune. I think the song which surprisingly got the biggest amount of applause at my show was Last Dollar (Fly Away).

I think the song which surprisingly got the biggest amount of applause at my show was Last Dollar (Fly Away). I found the reaction to "Diamond Rings and Old Barstools" at the concert in my city to be overwhelming. I found it really surprising given the fact that many things on the radio at the time sounded nothing like the production on the song. I'd just like to note that I've seen Keith Urban and Brad Paisley (last summer) and Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley, and Tim Mcgraw (this summer) in concert….Luke Bryan, no doubt, is a great entertainer…He genuinely seems to have fun on the stage and enjoy himself. Although I'm saying that about Luke, I found Tim Mcgraw to be just as entertaining and I felt like I was in the presence of a legend of sorts. He has been around a long time and it was really amazing to see how his music has transcended generations. When he came on stage, the crowd erupted and everyone literally know every word to his songs…both early songs and new songs. Dierks Bentley was also very entertaining and has an insane amount of energy on stage. If I had a choice, I'd vote Tim Mcgraw EOTY based on his concert this summer.

This definitely sounds like a Tim song that I've heard before but I can't put my finger on it

As was mentioned before, "Top Of The World" debuted yesterday morning and did get an iHeartMedia world premiere. That results in "Top Of The World" debuting at #42 on the MB rolling chart with over 6.4 million in total audience.

This isn't bad by any means, but it's kind of disappointing for a lead single, especially from one of the format's superstars. This sounds more like an album track IMO. This won't be a song that'll make me change the station, but I don't see myself setting out to listen to this one on repeat either. "Overrated" would have made for a better single.

I like this song, but there's no hiding from the fact that chorus sounds eerily similar to "Lookin' for That Girl". The way he repeats "got love, like we got love" reminds me of "lookin' for that girl, that girl, that girl". I still like this song better though.

This isn't terrible, but it's not very good either.
The lyrics never really go anywhere, and Tim's vocals sound really grating in some spots.
Meh.

"Top Of The World" is the second most added song on MB this week with 82 adds.
Tim also debuts at #30 on Billboard Airplay.

Did this song get the saturation launch from IHeartRadio?
He lost well over 600 spins overnight and fell out of the top 50.

Sometimes I think Tim puts new music out just because he feels like he needs to get new music out. It's absolutely shameful that we only got 4 singles from Sundown Heaven Town and one of them was that garbage lead single.
This song at least beats that one out--and sounds like a modern Tim cut.
I can't help but shaking my head thinking about "Overrated", "City Lights" or even two of my longshot favorites, "Dust" and "Keep on Truckin'".
Everything about this song, from the odd melody in the chorus, to the dry vanilla lyrics, just screams "quick, let's get a song together and put it out."

Tim performed in Nashville last night on the Shotgun Rider Tour. Of course he has multiple guests including Catherine Dunn, Chris Janson, Faith Hill, and suprisingly his oldest daughter, Gracie McGraw.
There's a duet "Here Tonight" that he performed with Gracie which will be featured on the upcoming album.

A couple weeks out now, and it's currently at #49 on the country genre iTunes chart. I know it still has some time to grow, but that's just sad for a lead single from Tim McGraw. "Dibs", "I Got The Boy", "I Love This Life" and "We Went" are currently selling better despite less airplay. This just does not sound like a lead single to my ears, it sounds like something you'd throw out as single #4 or 5 just to play it safe with radio and not lose momentum. I don't know if the three previous flawless singles are making this one sound worse by comparison, but this song just doesn't seem to have a lot of buzz. I still think it will peak very high, probably even #1 as long as they don't pull it like "Lookin' For That Girl", but I don't think this will be a fan favorite or be a huge radio staple.
