Basically the purpose of this thread is to compare newer/younger artists to older ones that they resemble in some way, whether it's musically, vocally, even just looks-wise, or some combination of all those things, etc. The title is just a play on the idea that "so and so is like the heir to so and so," but it need not be taken totally seriously in that right that the newer artist is here to 'replace'/is on the same level already as their likeness. Some examples I've thought up: Loretta Lynn --> Kacey Musgraves (the way her music sounds, the honesty in her songwriting [oftentimes controversial much like Loretta's], even her stage presence/apperance -- when they performed together last year it kind of sealed the deal for me) Lee Ann Womack --> Ashley Monroe (she reminds me a lot of LAW vocally, and The Blade sounds pretty similar musically to The Way I'm Livin') Dolly Parton --> Kellie Pickler (goofy, bubbly personality, lots of respect for the genre and keeping it "country" even though they've dabbled in poppier material) Josh Turner --> Scotty McCreery (those deep, deep vocals of course) Rascal Flatts --> Dan + Shay (vocally and musically remind me of a younger/new Rascal Flatts) His sample size is small, but Mo Pitney also really resembles Joe Nichols' to me musically and vocally. Also, Easton Corbin sounds a fair bit like George Strait vocally, though I haven't noticed it quite as much lately (more on his early material).

Waylon Jennings --> Luke Bryan Luke already said he isn't an outlaw singer ;) Anyway... Dwight Yoakam -> Jon Pardi (obviously Dwight was a musical genius, but Jon has the sound that matches Dwight pretty well)

Beyond that though I don't see much comparisons in them as artists. I can see the Brandy Clark comparison to Trisha Yearwood, though Trisha has a much bigger and more powerful voice so I hadn't made that connection on my own.

If she can truly breakout and stick with her Sophomore era.
Carrie Underwood >>> Danielle Bradberry or maybe even Mickey Guyton.
I know it's been said but
Taylor Swift >>> Kelsea Ballerini
Since no one has said this
Nelly>>> FGL (sorry)

My comparison of Billy Ray & Luke mainly stems from them both recording ridiculously shallow records with atrocious lyrics and then defending them tooth and nail as if they were masterpieces. Along with them both being white boys that think they can dance , that just look really , really awkward. And exactly , I love me some Brandy and her voice but shes nowhere near the powerhouse that Trisha is, they just have similar timbers to their voices , especially on the softer material.

Carrie Underwood/Reba (Both are praised for their voices, both have had immense award/album success, and both have done a fair amount of film work, hosting gigs, and expanding their careers outside of Country music. I definitely see Carrie being the "heir" to Reba's title as "Queen Of Country music someday. Ashley Monroe/Dolly Parton Two traditionalists and distinct vocalists who are both known as incredible songwriters. Eric Church/Willie NelsonEric's really the only current "outlaw" that walks the walk the way Wilie has throughout his career. Miranda Lambert/HaggardRascal Flatts/Alabama Rascal Flatts is (and continues to be), the only act that could come close to matching Alabama's success at their peak, and Alabama themselves even "passed the torch" so to speak to them during a CMA awards ceremony. I know she isn't "Country" anymore, but someone's gotta say it. Shania Twain/Taylor Swift

Martina McBride ---> Carrie Underwood (In terms of vocal acclaim they are definitely two of the only women who could hold a candle to each other. I have always considered Carrie to be Martina's "replacement" in a way.)
I also really like the Reba to Carrie comparisons :)

I actually think Mo Pitney sounds like George Strait both traditional and both have solid voices. Joe Nichols and Easton Corbin fit together more together too. Both are rather now country-pop both have strong voices. Both their last albums were very bland to my ears. Also both are in the twilight phases of their career (JK on the last part)

Jason Michael Carroll ---> Chris Young (Both are baritones with huge ranges. Of course Chris has gone on to see more success, but they have always reminded me of each other.)

Dixie Chicks(or The Wreckers) --> Maddie & Tae (Girl groups. I can also see M&T being huge stars like the Dixie Chicks) Keith Urban --> Hunter Hayes (Similar pop-country style, great guitarist) Martina McBride --> Carrie Underwood (Big voices, similar style, fantastic live singers)

Dixie Chicks(or The Wreckers) --> Maddie & Tae (Girl groups. I can also see M&T being huge stars like the Dixie Chicks) Keith Urban --> Hunter Hayes (Similar pop-country style, great guitarist) Martina McBride --> Carrie Underwood (Big voices, similar style, fantastic live singers) This post got me thinking that there probably isn't a current or former group I could compare to the Dixie Chicks; they had such a great mix of current and traditionalist sensibilities, that I can't think of any other groups that have mirrored that style. SheDaisy might be an example (tight harmonies, and both acts had a similar Country/Pop style on their earlier albums). Aside from their first two albums, though, I can't think of another act who had such a diverse style (Acoustic Bluegrass mixed with Contemporary Country), and then "Taking The Long Way" was a complete 180 from anything they had released previously, and thus the sound didn't mirror acts who may have had a similar sound at one point (Shedaisy, Rascal Flatts, the Wreckers). I think DC is one of those acts that influenced almost every female group/Duo to come through modern Country these days, but IMO, they had such a distinct sound for each of their four albums that I don't know if I'd compare them to any other act. To keep the thread on topic, though, I'll post a few more: Hunter Hayes/Rascal Flatts Gary and Hunter have eerily similar vocal tones, and both are firmly in the Country/Pop vein. I recall reading Hunter mention he met Rascal Flatts (as a fan), years ago as well, which could explain him picking up some influences from them. Miranda Lambert/Kacey MusgravesBoth ladies have similar styles as singer/songwriters, both had a "slow burn" type of success, both are given insane critical acclaim, and both competed on the TV show "Nashville Star." LeAnn Rimes/Carrie Underwood Both ladies are known for their powerful voices, and both also started on television talent shows Rascal Flatts/Lonestar/Lady Antebellum All three of these groups started out with promising songs, tight harmonies, and loyal fanbases. As time passed, though, all three groups adopted the bloated, AC style Country/Pop sound, and thus almost seemed to put the nail in the coffin for all three acts, at some point. All three acts have been criticized for declining in terms of quality material and changing their sound (s), to fit in with current acts, and it backfired on them all, at some point. All three have also had massive crossover singles that they tried (and failed) to re-create in terms of sound and style. (What Hurts The Most, Amazed, and Need You Now).

Hunter is way too teenybopper in my opinion to be an heir to KU. Keith only went teenybopper for "Sweet Thing" and "Kiss a Girl". If anything Hunter is our generation's Bryan White. Could be worse; he could be our generation's Billy Gilman.
I see Kacey Musgraves more as this generation's Mary Chapin Carpenter in that they're both smart and literate but still unafraid to be catchy and fun at the same time.

Mindy McCready --> Kira Isabella
Kira's strong, youthful voice and breathy, playful tone remind me a lot of Mindy's voice on certain songs. Some tracks I notice it on:
