Lopez owns the film, just like Ramona owns the club, and the fine line Lopez walks between fierce queen and relatable everywoman is essential to the rare balance the film strikes. It’s impossible to imagine another actress giddily showing off her denim swimwear line (named “Swimona”) in her posh Upper East Side apartment with the kind of pathos Lopez strikes, but that’s just the sort of thing the actress does again and again (and better each time) in “Hustlers.

The film really, truly belongs to J-Lo. Blessed with one of the most memorable entrances in recent cinema history (pole-dancing to Fiona Apple’s Criminal and met with a swarm of money), Lopez slinks through Hustlers with a deceptive ease, as in control of the film as her character is of her situation. It’s the sort of role that only a true movie star could pull off, so much of it reliant on a rare, intoxicating magnetism. It’s all too easy to view her acting career as starting and ending with Out of Sight and she has coasted in some frustratingly mediocre films since, but she’s always remained a captivating screen presence. She’s so perfectly calibrated as Ramona that it feels like she’s been unintentionally building toward it for years. Awards attention would be deserved but a far greater result would be a more expansive set of roles in her future.

She’s the shining neon star of Hustlers, a shrewd, deliciously entertaining pop culture caper that kicks off the new season with a splash. Bring some dollar bills, because they deserve them.

You know what? I'm super ready for a J.Lo Oscar campaign!

I think her early movie career already proved that, with the right role, she can definitely pull off a great performance (eg. Selena or Out of Sight), so I'm excited to see what she did in Hustlers

Apart from that, seeing so many movie snobs around the internet getting all mad with the possibility of J.Lo getting awards attention (not classic film snobs who like foreign cinema and auteurs, but the basic kind of mainstream movie snobs) is just making me root for her even harder!

Jennifer’s acting skills have always been underrated IMO - she was fantastic in Shades of Blue and it annoyed me she never got any awards consideration for it - but I’m aware a large factor in this is her choice of roles. I’ve seen nothing but glowing reviews for Hustlers and I’d be ecstatic to have another Latinx actor besides ScarJo be in the mix for awards season.

One thing I absolutely admire about JLo is that she works so hard and actually keeps getting better at everything she does. I've always been a fan of her acting, but there was a noticeable difference in Shades Of Blue -- you could tell she had gotten better.

‘Hustlers’ Is Fascinating, Fabulous and Fun: Read the Early Review!

Hustlers is a fascinating true story dramedy about a group of enterprising exotic dancers in New York City that band together and swindle Wall Street sleaze balls out of money. There’s a valuable lesson in here, as these degraded women get too greedy in their quest to topple the patriarchy and achieve the American dream. But first, I must talk about the Jennifer Lopez and the pole dancing.

Her skills are so jaw-dropping fabulous that if this were an Olympic sport, she’d win gold. First she slithers around the pole with rattlesnake-like smoothness and then she spins around it as if she’s water circling a drain. There will be more important scenes on a big screen this year, but none will be as flat-out awe-inspiring as the one which her character, Ramona, effortlessly shows her protégé (Constance Wu Opens a New Window. ) all her moves, using cute nicknames like “The Peter Pan,” “The Martini” and “The Tabletop.” Ever the consummate and ageless performer, Lopez has found her signature role playing a tough-talking, stiletto-strutting instigator of a crew of enterprising strippers. These ladies did break the law, but you can’t blame them for following the leader.

2020 would be perfect timing for her Halftime show. It will be awards season and the media will be all over her, just like Lady Gaga earlier this year. Heck, at this point, even if she doesn't get nominated there will be endless discussion about the snub and the focus will still be on her.

JLo is the definition of hustler. Supported by the right backers and management, she has hustled herself into the upper echelon, armed with a modicum of modest talest. Along the way, she managed to become a recording artist with hits written and sung by others. Now, she is being honored and mentioned in the esteemed company of Oscar winning actresses for showstopping, acrobatic stripping. The American Dream is not dead. It lives in Jennifer Lopez!
