Hot Shot Debut #50 Workin' For A Livin' Garth Brooks & Huey Lewis (Pearl/Big Machine) Debut #58 Winter Wonderland Sugarland (Mercury Nashville) Debut #59 White Christmas Taylor Swift (NBC/Big Machine) Where the heck are Keith Anderson and Little Big Town??? And someone please tell me Sugarland's "Winter Wonderland" is just (a) a typo or (b) for some odd reason doesn't appear on EITHER Mediabase. It's most likely the latter, but still! Why?? ??? Ahh! I'm over it now... edit: The more I thought about, I realized I did make a post here saying that my station had played that... So why in the world isn't it on Mediabase?

I'm not sure the "typo theory" isn't the best one. What would make this song eligible to chart now?
S4C, the Little Big Town song isn't eligible now. Christmas songs are eligible in the year they are first released (or the album they're on is released) and not thereafter, whether or not the song ever charted. I believe that would keep K Anderson off as well.
If there's an exception to that rule, I don't know what it is. Changing the song a bit might do it. Don't know.

^Oh, I figured sent LBT was re-sent out to radio (or reposted on AllAccess, anyways) that that meant it was re-released, which would allow it to re-enter.

Billboard: • Brad Paisley claims his 17th top 10 on the Hot Country Songs chart with "Letter to Me," which hops three slots to No. 10. Paisley first cracked that part of the chart when "He Didn't Have to Be" hit No. 10 on the chart dated October 1999. That title became the first of his nine No. 1s. "Letter" could give him an even 10 chart-toppers and extend his No. 1 streak to six consecutive non-holiday singles ... Farther down the chart at No. 50, Garth Brooks brings Huey Lewis back to our singles charts for the first time in six years, as the pair duets on "Workin' for a Livin,'" Lewis' 1982 Billboard Hot 100 hit. Lewis' last singles chart appearance was the No. 23-peaking Adult Contemporary hit "Let Her Go And Start Over" in 2001. Although this is his first chart ink on Hot Country Songs, Lewis is no stranger to country fans and artists. He played Reba McEntire's husband in the videoclip for her 1992 chart-topper, "Is There Life Out There." • Two teen stars stake claim on the CHR/Top 40 and Hot Country Songs charts with a total of eight songs, though interestingly none of the tunes appear on both lists. Taylor Swift places five titles on the Country Songs tally -- "Our Song" at No. 1 for a second week and four seasonal songs -- and flies to No. 11 on the CHR/Top 40 tally with "Teardrops on My Guitar," her former No. 2 Hot Country Songs hit ... Miley Cyrus meanwhile advances to No. 13 on the Country chart with "Ready, Set, Don't Go" with dad Billy Ray and scores her first CHR/Top 40 chart entry at No. 36 with "See You Again." Cyrus appears on the pop chart directly above fellow Disney stars Ashley Tisdale and Jonas Brothers.

More from Billboard:
• Big Machine artist Taylor Swift's self-titled debut ascends 9-8 with 139,000 (+40%), while another country effort, Carrie Underwood's "Carnival Ride" (Arista Nashville), falls 7-9 with a 29% increase to 137,000. Garth Brooks' Pearl set "The Ultimate Hits" drifts down 8-10 despite a 14% uplift to 119,000.

He shouldn't have any trouble hitting #1 sometime in January, and he might just stay there awhile......

He might not get there until Feb thanks to the holiday slowdown, but I'd be amazed if he doesn't get his 6th #1 in a row. I would say this is his strongest song yet.

It's neck-and-neck between this and 'She's Everything' on my list for his best single to date.
If he does have to wait until February before reaching the penthouse, and could still manage 3-5 weeks at #1, it would become the first very serious contender to be the #1 single of 2008, partially thanks to the underwhelming new singles from McGraw & Chesney.

OK I'll give into LBT being uneligible to chart even though they were re-released. But how in the world does Keith Anderson miss with between 2-2.5 million AI impressions on Mediabase c1R?! Ugh.

Since Keith Anderson's song was released in 2006 (even though it didn't chart), it wouldn't be eligible in BB this year. Sugarland charting was somewhat different as it was recorded before they had their label deal and I'm guessing it wasn't released to radio last year.

It's confusing because the Anderson song was on an album this year alongside Carrie's and Kellie's charting songs. But that album also had other ineligible songs, like Brad Paisley's.
Billboard just uses a strict rule. Even with that in place, there are a ton of Christmas songs that charted this year. If they let re-releases back on, we might wind up with 25 charting Christmas songs, and all the songs at the bottom end of the chart would be kicked off. I see why Billboard would want to avoid that.

The Eagles are still at #1, despite falling 72% from last week. Next week, we could see Garth or Taylor rise back to #1.

I counted 15 Christmas songs currently on the chart this week, meaning that next week will see that 25% of the chart will be made of re-entering or debuting songs. :o Plus I'd wager George will be going recurrent. 16 songs! (Somehow that doesn't seem correct. Maybe it just doesn't seem possible...?)
A very good thing for those songs struggling. And I know I'll be happy to see the Eli Young Band and The Road Hammers, among many others, sneaking their ways onto the chart. :)

George will stay on, because everybody gets a big bullet once we go back to 7-day weeks (after the 5-day Christmas week).
You're right, though, tons of debuts. This is the week for Povertyneck Hillbillies, Road Hammers, and your Uncle Fred who plays harmonica to enter the Billboard chart.

I have no idea why more lesser name artists aren't rushing to release new material with such a soft bottom of the chart.

I don't see why they shouldn't be able to - but I also don't see why Tracy hasn't been, either. Maybe Tracy has just been (really) unlucky with stations and hasn't been getting the support from BB-reporting stations? I don't know, maybe there is some secret condition we don't know about. Either way, Tracy is still supporting himself (err Rocky Comfort is still supporting Tracy) - an ad for TIWADT was in the first edition of CountryAirCheck of '08. Also, how long was Blue County's "I Get To" off of the charts before it re-entered? Probably not as long as the EYB or Tracy, but I remember it was a surprise to see it return.

Billboard Chart Beat: HER 'SONG' FOR THE ASKING: Taylor Swift's "Our Song" (Big Machine) remains No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart for the fourth week in a row. Immediately before Swift captured the top spot, Carrie Underwood reigned for three weeks with "So Small." This seven-week string of No. 1 songs by solo female artists is the second longest in the 64-year history of the country singles chart. The record was set, amazingly, exactly 43 years ago this week, when Connie Smith's "Once a Day" was No. 1 for the eighth consecutive week. Last week, at the six-week mark, Underwood and Swift were tied for second place with two other runs. In the summer of 1961, Kitty Wells was No. 1 for four weeks with "Heartbreak U.S.A." and was followed by Patsy Cline's "I Fall to Pieces," which led the list for two weeks. And from December 1970-January 1971, Loretta Lynn and Lynn Anderson put together a six-week string with the former's "Coal Miner's Daughter" (one week) and the latter's "Rose Garden" (five weeks). At the four-week mark, Swift is already in an elite group of solo female artists who have had songs remain in pole position for a quartet of weeks or more. Here are the 19 chart-toppers by solo female artists that have held first place for four weeks or more: 8 weeks: "Once a Day," Connie Smith (1964) 6 weeks: "It Wasn't God Who Made Honky Tonk Angels," Kitty Wells (1952) 6 weeks: "Breathe," Faith Hill (1999) 6 weeks: "Jesus, Take the Wheel," Carrie Underwood (2006) 5 weeks: "She's Got You," Patsy Cline (1962) 5 weeks: "Rose Garden," Lynn Anderson (1970) 5 weeks: "Here You Come Again," Dolly Parton (1977) 5 weeks: "Love Gets Me Every Time," Shania Twain (1997) 5 weeks: "I Love You," Martina McBride (1999) 5 weeks: "I Hope You Dance," Lee Ann Womack (2000) 5 weeks: "Redneck Woman," Gretchen Wilson (2004) 5 weeks: "Before He Cheats," Carrie Underwood (2006) 4 weeks: "Heartbreak U.S.A.," Kitty Wells (1961) 4 weeks: "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue," Crystal Gayle (1977) 4 weeks: "No One Else on Earth," Wynonna (1992) 4 weeks: "Wild One," Faith Hill (1994) 4 weeks: "The Way You Love Me," Faith Hill (2000) 4 weeks: "That's the Way," Jo Dee Messina (2000) 4 weeks: "Our Song," Taylor Swift (2007)

I'll be interested to see if Tracy re-enters today. About a month back, I did send an email to Wade Jessen asking about Tracy's eligibility, as his MB numbers would have indicated that he should have made BB/R&R chart, and he said that it was just that he didn't have the audience numbers to re-enter - so no reason to think that he'd be ineligible to chart again in such a soft week.
