^^^^^And I'm also 1,000% sure that there will be a HUGE ad in tonight's CAW touting that 4-week run at #1 and deservedly so, as Reba's label did exactly six years ago for 'Consider Me Gone'.

All Access can claim whatever they want but I'm sure Valory/Big Machine will call this a 4 week #1 Mediabase single, with 5 weeks at Billboard Airplay. For what it's worth, tonight's Country Aircheck issue is still saying it's "only" a 3-week Mediabase #1 (and Lon Helton is the supposed authority of the Mediabase chart, right?) I'm certainly not doubting you about what the label will claim -- labels are always gonna acknowledge as many weeks at #1 as possible. In this case, when all is said and done, Big Machine might not even mention Mediabase in any of their "thank you" ads, since DAHM will have a longer stay at #1 on Billboard, or maybe they'll acknowledge its reign on Mediabase, but in smaller print? Anyway, all I'm trying to say is that I expect their focus will be on the longer #1 stay at Billboard. I have to wonder...if a Pulse member were to interview Lon Helton/Country Aircheck or someone at AllAccess, what would they say about "Burning House"? Would they say it peaked at #2? Obviously Arista Nashville views it as a Mediabase #1 (as they should), but the trade/publication (Country Aircheck) that publishes the Mediabase chart probably won't call it a #1. Probably someone who works for Mediabase would say it was a #1, but someone who works for Country Aircheck might tell you that it was 'only' a #2 hit. I find that very interesting, and not in a good way. The way Country Aircheck treats the 2 weeks surrounding Christmas and New Year's is extremely bizarre, in my opinion. Anyway, moving on... And I'm also 1,000% sure that there will be a HUGE ad in tonight's CAW touting that 4-week run at #1 and deservedly so, as Reba's label did exactly six years ago for 'Consider Me Gone'. No ad...and I have to wonder if maybe it's because they're gonna try to hold on for a 6th week at the top? Thomas lost about 500k on Sunday (Monday morning update), but then he actually gained 17k on Monday, despite a loss of 37 spins. And this morning's update shows that Thomas lost only a little less than 150k. Anyway, this is what Billboard had to say about "Die A Happy Man" (I bolded a rather interesting quote): Thomas leads Brothers Osborne by exactly 5 million on Billboard, and even though it's 'push week' for them, that's still a pretty big gap that they have to close, especially if DAHM doesn't fall very much. And with that quote from Mike Moore of Entercom, it seems that many stations aren't ready to drop this one all that much. Like he said, DAHM hasn't even been out that long, it's selling incredibly well (still top 10 all-genre on iTunes), and it's researching incredibly well. And Valory is well aware of all of this. I'm sure they're getting regular feedback from a lot of radio groups and stations, and to be honest I doubt that they have to do all that much (as far as promotion goes). This one is just a massive hit and it's pretty much holding itself up without needing any sort of a boost from the label.

This song just doesn't feel like a 5-week #1. I like it a lot, and I'm hearing it, but it just doesn't feel "big" in the way previous multi-weekers/super fast climbers/both have to me. It feels like it's barely even being played. Then again, when's the last time ANYone played "Never Wanted Nothing More"? That was the last male 5-weeker and, while it was a standout song, I forgot it even existed by the time "Don't Blink" hit #1.
Also, this song shares a writer with "Wiggle" and "Talk Dirty". How do you go from knuckle dragging, gross garbage by Jason Derulo to one of the few "white guy with guitar" songs that I actually find enjoyable?

It feels like it's barely even being played. You should listen to the stations I listen to. ...on second thought, don't do that.

Thomas holds onto the #1 spot on Billboard for a 6th week. "Die A Happy Man" finished 429k ahead of Brothers Osborne's "Stay A Little Longer". From Billboard: This song just doesn't feel like a 5-week 6-week #1. I think you just live in an area that doesn't play big hits as much as 99% of the rest of the country. I can't escape this on the radio...I change the dial as fast as I can (not a fan of this one, at all), but sometimes it's on the station that I change to, lol. The other day it was on 4 local stations at the same time. I also hear "Never Wanted Nothing More" quite often...more than I hear "Don't Blink", in fact. This song feels like a massive hit to me. Anyway, I knew last week when there was no "thank you" ad that Valory was hoping they could eke out a 6th week at #1 here, even if they had to cede the Mediabase #1 to Brothers Osborne. Some of those comments from PD's (in last week's Billboard issue) indicated that radio wasn't ready to be done with this. And now, even though this one is done after 6 weeks at the top, look for it to fall quite slowly.

I'm glad to see another 6 week #1, even though I don't love the song. I had feared that those days were over. I fully expect Luke/Karen to take over next week, but what a great run this has had.

I don't really get the love for this song. To me it's just so generic... Still, It's quite interesting seeing a song go past 5 weeks at #01 again. Having a new song at the top spot every week, to me, take away a bit of what a special thing going to #01 is supposed to be LOL

This is one of the few "white guy with guitar" songs that I like. I'm stunned that it shares writers with such a terrible song as "Wiggle".

So I checked Wikipedia and this song debuted on Billboard Adult Pop Songs at #37. So it looks this song will be crossing over to hot ac radio and other formats soon under republic New York.

Actually a hot Thomas Rhett cover lol. interesting .....:| I wonder why they didn't do a remix with nelly to push CHR/pop tho. I know this is a cover of it but if nelly is going really country I thought he'd team with some not well known acts to get them more well known. Oh well that's just wishful thinking

Nelly's cover isn't being released to country radio. It's being released to CHR/Pop. Big Machine/Republic are planning on pushing Thomas' original version to the pop format as well, so it's interesting that Nelly decided to come out with a cover at the same time.

What's really strange is apparently they are now planning to push this to CHR, at the same time that Nelly evidently decided to not only cover the song but release his to CHR, too. The whole series of events doesn't make a lick of sense to me. ETA: Or what jhomes87 said, lol.

Has Nelly had a hit on CHR in the last 5 years? I feel like CHR is over him.... I don't follow it much, so I could be dead wrong, but I feel like the last song I heard from him was, "Just A Dream," and that had to be 5/6 years ago.

He had a moderate hit just last year with "The Fix" but it admittedly did much better on Rhythmic and Urban formats than on CHR (where it only reached #30).

I was at a restaurant last night and the real Thinking Out Loud came on and due to the noisy atmosphere the bass was about all I could hear. Please tell me he got sued by the estate of Marvin Gaye!

Bobby Bones played some excerpts from Nelly's version this morning. I can't exactly say I hate it or anything but it does sound a little weird. Thomas Rhett writes in a fairly homespun country kind of way, so a lot of the words and phrases sound weird coming from an R&B or Hip Hop artist. Of course, I guess it's not any weirder than a country artist singing, "Phone blowing up, where you is?" Right?

I can't see this doing anything at today's top 40 radio; this isn't the eighties folks, the last decade when REAL country music was very common and very successful at top 40 radio during what eventually became its biggest decade ever, propelled to unmatched heights thanks to a superb mix of all genres and types of music, with country music definitely well-represented.
It might have a shot at AC radio, but that's about it.

Billboard f*cked up again. "Die A Happy Man" was 13 in spins should have gone recurrent and freed up some chart space but they decided to keep it again.
I am so sorry I didn't have this in my predictions cause I was convinced this song was going to finally leave like I'm stunned right now.

I'm almost wondering if Billboard has decided to tweak their recurrent rules ever so slightly (but just hasn't formally announced it). The current rule is that a song will go recurrent if it falls below #10 in either audience OR spins (and it has to be 21+ weeks old). I wonder if they got rid of the "or spins" part? I wouldn't mind if they tweaked that particular rule, given that it's the ONLY one of their rules where spins are even considered.
But if they haven't changed that rule, then yeah, Rhett falling to #13 in spins means DAHM should have gone recurrent tonight.

Six weeks after it wrapped up a six week run at the top, Die A Happy Man refuses to die to recurrentland. #10 this week.
